I got ice cream. Sometimes posting pictures makes me nervous. I edited someone else’s thumb onto mine. I got ice cream cause my mental health is bad - I got it from Korean Market. Felt bad buying japanese brands in front of my aunties but I wanted these specific ones! I should have gotten 2 chocolate though, instead of matcha flavor. I like matcha but this was kinda gross. Metallic undertone.

I missed my meds today so like. This can be a replacement since its too late now.

Anytime I talk about my Dad, White people ask me “Would you ever raise your kids like him”, because I always say he’s a good Dad, after describing things they wouldn’t believe a good Dad should do. And

They’re always quite shocked or appalled when I say yes.

There’s no words I could use to explain it to them, it’s kinda jus’ one of those “You had to be there” things.

When I was younger, I thought he was a bad Father. Everyone said he was. People told me he could do better. People talked about how great their White Dad’s are and how cool they are and all these fun things they do

And, my Dad doesn’t do that

And maybe my Dad can’t verbally say he’s proud of me.

But he’ll send me it in an eerie text randomly in the middle of the day, and I’ll panic and think he’s gonna take himself out - and I’ll spend $9 buying him Dairy Queen so he has something to look forward to in the hopes that if he really is gonna do it, he’ll at least wait to see me first.

And he’ll just be sitting on our couch with our dogs, feeling sentimental.

He won’t say it verbally

But the way he bows his head a little when I hand him his Blizzard, will say much more than he could’ve anyways.

He is the Strongest person I’ve ever met, and he is the Smartest as well.

And he is, better than any White Father anyone could ever have.

I’d love to be like him.

In a patriarchal society, the “male gaze” isn’t strictly male. I’d argue it’s more, the inability to look at Misogyny and Misogynoir using sociological imagination. Many women view things through a male gaze - society TEACHES you to. It argues why you should have bias towards men, when a woman is raped it’s “She was a sister, a daughter, a mom!” - the way her relationship with others impacts rather than herself and the crime to HER life.

Refusing to see things from her eyes.

The male gaze isn’t about liking abs or dad bods - the male gaze is what eyes you view society from. Do you try her eyes out, or do you think from your own experiences and perspectives? Do you think from the experiences and perspectives of the men around her before her own?

When you think of a strong Black Woman, do you think of all the OTHER people she has to care for? Or do you think about the personalized experiences she goes through.

Often, the first step to growth as a person is changing the way you think.
