i’ve warmed up significantly towards the concept of small talk ever since i learned that its sole purpose is to make friendly noises.

as long as you smile and nod, people are satisfied. it’s just to show that you are nice and there with good intentions. we’re small in a big world and have to rely on other people to be decent to us. so we do our little human dance to each other to say, “i’m not here to hurt you. here’s something we have in common, like the weather or sports or itchy sweaters, so we both know we’re on the same team. we both agree on a basic fact, like that it is rainy or that being itchy is uncomfortable, and this proves we can get along. i’m being light-hearted and non-threatening right now.”

small talk isn’t to get to know a person. it’s just a greeting to affirm you’re buddies in the universe.

i am motivated by wanting the other person to know i am friendly, so i have gotten pretty decent at small talk when i used to hate it.

Really badly need fic of ART in a human-form bot body (in some situation where there's reduced feed capacity so it can't just ride along with MB) and hanging off of MB physically the way it always does in the feed and neither of them really notice or think it's remarkable because like. Duh. They're always huddled up next to each other. But their humans are losing their minds because what do you MEAN ART-bot is just shoving into MB's space like that and it doesn't care at all. At some point Ratthi is like wow you two seem like youve gotten so much closer since that whole debacle with the target planet! And MB just stares at him blankly like what do you mean. ART ignoring my personal space so it can watch what I'm doing is normal. And so Ratthi just has to sit there vibrating and not saying anything while ART-bot physically drags MB around by the arm and MB inexplicably allows this to happen.

I keep seeing people say that Haymitch got a 1 because the capitol was trying to kill him. I think the capitol gave him a 1 because they wanted him to win. If they wanted him dead, he would have gotten an 8-10. Something that wasn't monumental but very high, something to make him into a target for the careers. A 1 would both get him sponsors and keep him from being the careers' first target. Why would the capitol want him to win? Or, more specifically, why did Snow want him to live? To punish him for being in love with a Covey girl

I'm actually crying about arcane s2 act 2, so don't read if you haven't watched it yet. The whole thing with Silco, Vander, and vi/powder's mom is heartbreaking. I keep seeing people say that Silco was building Zaun for Powder, but he wasn't, not originally. He was building it for Vi. Which makes it 10x more heartbreaking that they never got to meet and talk. I also really want to believe that when Silco finds Powder at the warehouse for the first time and asks about Vi it's because he wants to look after her too like he said he would. I wonder if Vi and Powder met Silco before their parent's died or why they didn't? As far as I can remember, Silco and Vander's fallout happened when they died. What if they had met and Vi would have remembered him if she saw him and Powder was just too young when she met him for the first time to remember him? I love arcane so much and want act 3 do badly, but don't think I'm ready for it. I really need to see a lot of Ekko to make up for the heartbreak
