The Depressive's Guide To Getting Stuff Done
Aka the “ oh crap i have to get this done today but I’m in a depressive episode” guide.
⭐️ Step One: Go to the bathroom, I know you probably haven’t gotten out of bed yet, go do your business, splash some cool water on your face, and remind yourself you’re going to kick depression’s butt today
⭐️Step Two: Open your blinds/curtains. We both know they’re closed. Open them up, let that natural vitamin D into your room, it’s gonna help.
⭐️Step Three: List the things that absolutely must be done today, and what can wait until tomorrow. You’re struggling enough already today, so do what’s necessary and leave the rest for tomorrow.
⭐️Step Four: Go sit outside for 20 minutes if the weather is good, 5-10 minutes if it’s blazing hot outside, and if it’s raining go open up all the blinds you can to let as much natural light in as possible. Maybe take this time to eat something, food is energy, energy means getting stuff done
⭐️Step Five: Hydrate. Drink water, cold refreshing water. You need it.
⭐️Step Six: Break down what you need to do in pieces and do it in the most efficient way possible.
I.E you need your room cleaned. Gather up laundry first and throw it in the wash, that way while your clothes are washing you can be picking up any trash or straightening clutter.
⭐️Step Seven: Allow yourself short breaks, 10 minutes at a time max, to take yourself away from the stress and recharge a bit.
⭐️Step Eight: Do this sparingly, but if you really have no energy see if someone can get you an energy drink or a coffee, if you have an anxiety disorder be very careful with your caffeine, as it can make it easier to have an attack.
Remember that even if you don’t get a ton done today, it’s okay. We’re focusing on the things that absolutely must be done today and cannot possibly wait at all- not trying to clean the entire house or completing an entire week’s worth of homework. Only do what HAS to be done first, then see if you have any energy for anything else.
We’ve got this cuties, we can do it. I believe in us. And remember I’m proud of you for even trying to do the things that need to be done, I know how hard it is.
