and this isnt a "japan bad lol" thing theres so many characters out there who are functionally treated as adults but designated to be in their late teens. i think the oldest (official) disney princess is like. 21. its a feature of how society at large treats 16-25 as the only viable window of attractiveness yknow. the dicaprio problem. its everywhere once you look for it unfortunately and even characters i love are not exempt from reflecting the bias.

That is what I get with some people who hate Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, they hate them, but they watch them so they can hate on it. I watch those shows because I love them and if I hate something, I want to avoid it not go out of my way to seek it out.

genuinely i do think it's crazy how this show hit every single mark for no reason other than pure love of the game. like this wasn't a money grab and it didn't think it would be a big success, jacob just read a book he enjoyed and thought huh i think that would be a cool thing to make into a tv show. and then he brought on hudson and connor and they're fresh and passionate and not bogged down by the industry yet and they instantly became best friends and wanted to just have fun bringing these characters to life. and they didn't have a huge budget but they did the most with what they had and everybody took the show seriously and everybody took the book seriously. the cinematographer worked his magic. the music supervisor managed to snag a well-known queer hit and an up and coming new release and old school gems that have been around since the 2000s. it's canadian to the core, built from the ground up. it takes russians and the russian language seriously. it uses sex in such a specific, meaningful way that almost no other show has done thus far, and especially not in a queer context like this. they interlaced every episode with callbacks and parallelism and self-references. they didn't take themselves too seriously. they took everything so seriously. there is love and care baked into the core of this show and it's deeply queer and it doesn't shy away from the horrors of toxic masculinity and hockey culture but it is also, always, a story of joy and love and happiness. and on top of everything, it's almost word for word, the original source material from the book.

like damn it's no wonder this thing has made us all insufferable and become a huge fucking success! so few productions in hollywood are doing it like this!!!

Something about the indirect parallels between Barry and Hal just makes something in me itch. Both watching a parent die and stagnating in that moment, having to decide who they want to be for the rest of their lives. Hal following Barry into death and Barry following Hal into life. The sky frees Hal while the earth grounds Barry. Hal’s resurrection being a moment of triumph. Barry's resurrection being a moment of defeat for all he sacrificed. Hal accepting his status as a sinner while Barry rejects his status as a saint. I'm losing it.

Sieun and Juntae have such an interesting relationship

Although it seems like it was Juntae who reached out to Sieun for help. In reality, he was helping out Sieun in an equal measure, by pulling him out of the mist his life had become.

For instance, I like how Juntae doesn't expect Sieun to reach out and take anything so he very cutely reaches out and hands him the thing.

He understands that Sieun has built this wall around him and wants to be perceived as "independent" but he sees through it and wants to be there for him. He knows that Sieun is just as lost and needs help too.

When even high dose sleeping pills were failing Sieun, a simple over-the-counter magnesium supplement worked? Maybe it was because the feelings behind it mattered a lot more than the actual thing.

And he understood what Sieun was going through. He gave him space when he needed, but was always at arm's length to pull him out when he was truly lost.

They've both rescued each other, but Juntae is the real MVP of Class 2.

Since we're getting super hero media that's actually good, can we try to reboot The Green Hornet again and make it not shit?

I loved The Green Hornet from 2011 with all my heart, but it was because it was clear that it was made more with love and admiration for the original material than with an attempt to make it a good superhero movie in general. The movies of this genre have resurfaced now, coming back from their bad streak since End Game (before the pandemic, uff) and the truth is that I have faith in this facet that besides refreshing is more... hopeful, now I feel that they are MUCH more heroic than before and that's amazing.

Now, does this new generation of Superheroes have room for characters that don't come from giant studios like DC or Marvel? I say yes and I would even say that the fans would welcome them with open arms or maybe not even that, it would be a new opportunity to make a new entourage of fans, a GIANT one, the fandom that deserves it. It would be perfect to attract people who don't want to fill their heads with the almost obligatory Marvel chronology or people who don't want to have a roller coaster of conflicting tastes with the sometimes VERY bad and sometimes VERY good DC movies to get into the superhero genre.

I almost imagine it as the missed opportunity of the Kick-Ass movie saga, but in the midst of 2025 and beyond, they could do things genuinely right now with the duo of Britt and Kato. It doesn't even have to be a carbon copy of the 60' series, they can do something fresh with these characters taking advantage of the few spotlights shining on them in the last almost 15 years because yes, they had a brief moment of fame thanks to the 2011 movie, ao3 confirmed it for me.

It is just a matter of effort, good ideas and love for heroes, but above all for THESE heroes.
