Daniel and Lestat are set up to be conducting an interview for an documentary, to be completed over the six days , with the seventh day ending with them video taping Lestat's big concert.
Tensions are high because Lestat is extremely offended over the Interview with the Vampire book, and Daniel struggles to get anything out of Lestat. There's a mysterious white haired lady as his manager who is mostly in the background.
Instead of focusing on the start of Lestat's band first, like Daniel had planned, they argue over events of the book. We have multiple flashbacks to disputed moments such as the train, the fall, etc. But it's ultimately inconclusive to the audience. Also we get more moments from the past for Lestat and Louis, Lestat and Claudia.
What really breaks Lestat is Daniel bringing up Nicki and asking him about his pattern of failures with his partner. He flashes back to him and it's what causes him to abruptly leave the interview halfway through the shoot.
Daniel is pissed off and we see him walking home with a figure trailing behind him. Lestat sits in his car and we see him calling Louis. They talk, it's clear that they're on good terms.
Lestat swaggers back in, assured of himself again. He brings up Nicki himself and tells of their relationship to Daniel. The entire episode is on Lestat's and Nicki's relationship and its downfall.
Daniel points out Lestat's behavior many times, on how he cheats on Nicki with Armand, how he didn't really help him adjust after turning him, etc.
Lestat brings up Daniel's own turning and he uses it against him to throw him off. Flashbacks to Daniel's turning ensue. Daniel is visibly shaken, and it's clear that through the rest of the day of shooting he's not on his game. But they manage the use up the whole day for interviewing, so he's at least got that.
Daniel goes midnight (bowling? drinking?). He senses that Armand is there through the bond and the scene from Ep 4 happens.
Lestat and the mysterious woman spends time together, ending with them making out and presumably having sex.
Daniel plans to redirect the interview towards Lestat's childhood. We get his entire backstory, and the mysterious woman is revealed only to the audience to be his mother.
It hits a standstill after Lestat uses the same trick he did in episode 3 in the show in order to make Daniel think that he's talking when he's not. Daniel is extremely pissed off.
Daniel gets out of the shoot and meets up with Armand, who tells him about Gabriella actually being Lestat's mother. Daniel is excited over the information, and Armand tells him he can teach him so much more.
Lestat and Louis meet at the diner, to which Louis begs him to go in and verify if Regina is Claudia. He does so and comforts Louis. It's clear that they've been at a bit of an impasse when it comes to their relationship but this helps them crack the wall. This causes him to think about Claudia, reflecting on their relationship, particularly her death at the end of season 2.
Daniel is clearly pissed off and in over his head, which causes him to move rashly to try and surprise Lestat. He presses Lestat on the rest of his life, specifically on what happened after his mother and him left his family. Gabriella wasn't really mentioned in episode 2 but now we see her presence there and how it affected him.
Daniel reveals to the audience the fact that the manager that Lestat has is his mother. Lestat tries to deny it but Daniel presses his advantage and tells him that he knows. The interview quickly starts to break down.
There's a reframing of everything as we see him and Gabriella become lovers. It basically recolors what we know of his relationship to Nicki, and then Louis. And most importantly, Claudia.
It ends terribly, Lestat basically quits the interview and the studio is thrown into incredible chaos. Gabriella leaves, and it's not clear where she goes. Daniel's both satisfied for getting one over on Lestat but also it's clear that he lost control during this interview.
***From here on out, the details will be looser because the future episodes haven't been released
Lestat spends the day with Louis, specifically on calling back Claudia as a ghost. (Ep 6 hasn't come out yet, so I'm not entirely sure how this will play out. But basically it ends with Lestat connecting Claudia to Akasha)
Daniel spends time with Armand and learns how to access his powers, specifically day walking. He begins to suspect a deeper relationship with Armand in the past.
Lestat and Louis spend the entire episode together, with Lestat confessing his past to him and them officially repairing their relationship. They reflect on their past together, and they realize that they are better together than apart.
Lestat tells Louis about his own relationship with Armand, and how he had manipulated him as well.
Most notably, he tells Louis about Akasha, and his time with Marius taking care of them. But it's only revealed to the audience that Lestat's career as a rock star has been to try and wake her up again.
Daniel contacts the Talamasca to try and understand his relationship with Armand. He fully is immersing himself in the mystery and he neglects his filming duties. He finds a photo of himself as a young man with Armand, which extremely confuses him.
All on the concert that Lestat holds. Rolin's allowed to go hog wild with the music all he wants, the band is there, etc.
But basically Daniel finds out Armand's going to the concert and he pursues him there. They have an confrontation, and here he gets a flashback to his younger self with Armand. (I'm not sure how, maybe Daniel is able to bite him and he recovers the memories through the blood?)
In the halfway point, vampires attack the concert but Louis is the one to help fend them off in order to keep the concert going. Lestat is able to successfully finish his concert but he is kidnapped by Akasha before Louis has the chance to save him.
