Oscar Oiwa — Light Shop (oil on canvas, 2018)
in many american cities there are streets that predate colonization that sometimes to a certain extent predate human habitation of the Americas. Natural rises that became deer paths that were improved by indigenous peoples and then they were violently disposessed of them and they became city streets. often you can tell because the street will be called "ridge" or something of the sort, or it will take a seemingly out of place bending and diagonal path through the grid that came long after it. and this is information that you can glean if you are interested about the world around you it can make you look at it in entirely new ways. but most people aren't and don't ever ask questions
