Day 38 since guests came on, but who’s counting? Meeee 🙈😂. Guys caught some lion fish this morning so had a perfect starter tonight. Limes, tomato and chilies all local and some choclo peruano made it perfect. Homemade ricotta agnolotti with fresh truffles as a main. This afternoon served some Japanese style crepes with pecans and honey. Had some extra after assembling Japanese Mille feuille crepes cake I made for tomorrow evening. Pizza and movie night. Motorcycle diaries is one of my favorite films ever. Made a quiche for lunch with local eggs I got this morning and served it with local plum tomato and sweet white onion salad. For starter made Peruvian corn and chicken soup ‘Sopa de mote con pollo’ with local carrots and malanga. This is what apartment buildings look like in Cuba. Architecture looks familiar, old Soviet influence just like the parts of the city I grew up in. Just in much worst shape. Unfortunately with the sanctions imposed to Cuba, the ones that suffer the most are ordinary people, not the political elite. And it is so wrong. These people if lucky enough to work earn very little money and prices they have to pay to buy most basic things are ridiculous. Just to buy potato and milk they have to go to the black market or wait in huge queues. And they’ll get it only if they are lucky. Toiletries are impossible to get... Malanga (Taro in English) is another root vegetable I have never used before. It is very similar to yams. Since it’s very common in Cuba I decided to try it last night. It is a food staple in African, Oceanic and South Asian cultures. Day trip to most beautiful Cuban town so far. Trinidad is about an hour away from Cienfuegos and it’s an UNESCO world heritage site. It is as if time machine took you back in time. Incredibly beautiful with even nicer people. Yesterday’s cooking was a mixture of different cuisines. Lunch was Cuban, after all we are in Cuba 🇨🇺. Ropa vieja con frijoles negros y arroz was a great discovery to many. For dessert Apfel strudel but I made it with pecans and raisins. It literally disappeared in seconds 😅.
