Pappardelle - Temporary Score: 6

Description: thick, flat ribbons

First Take Points: 4 - this unassuming pasta may have single-handedly restored my faith in long-form pasta. i made a "clean out the fridge" ribolitta, but instead of adding bread, i added pappardelle! this was not meant to be a 1:1 sub - adding bread does something wholly different to the consistency, clearly; i just didn't want bread in my soup. but adding parppardelle was a homerun - both the pasta and the soup are hearty enough to stand up to each other, and it just makes for a really great bite. side note: i did use an "extra thin" pappardelle, but i don't think the normal noodle would be a problem in this dish.

Remix Bonus Points: 2 - honestly i'm going to keep putting this in stews. but it is stew seson!

Amusement Points: 2 - i love saying this name. pappardelle. it just sounds jaunty. and rather proper, but with with a twinkle in it's eye. think top hat, coattails, a cane, a monocle, one pocket full of candy and a second pocket full of tiny little wind up toys.

Annoyance Deductions: -2 - i don't love spelling this name. papardella? no, of course not. also i am annoyed by the same flaw of all long pasta: it's LONG and DOES NOT FIT IN THE POT.

Alternative Uses: remember when Underwater Basket Weaving was the standard dog-whistle for being mad at people who had the audacity to pursue a secondary education in something other than medicine, law, or engineering? i would take that class IF they let me use pappardelle as my material. then you could fill the basket with vegetables and never have to do the dishes again!
