How do I explain what I feel?
I notice that it’s getting bigger, it’s out of control. How can I stop this cancer from spreading any further?
How do I help?

Please do your research! There is so much misinformation out there and a lot of lies.
Everyone should know the truth so please try to know as much as you can so you can spread awareness and help!

A comic about the spectrum of responses to stress - we talk alot about the more extreme ends of this and trauma, but the more subtle and every day responses can be harder to spot. if we can understand our own and other’s responses better, problems Are easier to confront and blaming is less likely to happen :) hope it’s helpful!!

THE ACTUAL NEWS
I read an interview with this guy (who is a real news anchor), and he said he told his acting agent that he is ONLY interested in parts where he plays a new anchor. This is no coincidence. This is by design.
what is his plan

Attention everyone, another young Black woman is MISSING with no news coverage. Her name is Nyrah Barner Curry.

Simone Biles stars on the cover of our August issue! With the 2020 Olympics postponed and a shadow hung over American gymnastics, Biles–who is widely regarded as the greatest gymnast of all time—has had to be resilient as never before.
When Biles was first photographed in February and interviewed in March for this cover story, America was also a different place. Since then, the coronavirus pandemic has upended regular patterns of life and #BlackLivesMatter protests have occurred from coast to coast. “We need justice for the Black community. With the peaceful protests it’s the start of change, but it’s sad that it took all of this for people to listen,” Biles said. “Racism and injustice have existed for years with the Black community.”
Here, Vogue reports on a champion looking ahead: READ MORE.
black lives matter
i’ve been trying to support the movement everywhere i can, and i definitely have a lot to learn when it comes to educating myself on systemic racism and police abolition! but even though my platform here on tumblr is small & relatively new, i want to facilitate the spread of blm resources here as well.
here is a masterlist created by @patiasfantasyworld about how to dismantle systemic racism. it includes organizations and bail funds to donate to, black-owned businesses to support, and books/movies/articles to educate yourself with.
i will be keeping this post pinned for the foreseeable future so it’s easily accessible. and because the black lives matter movement isn’t a trend and it won’t go away until we actually end systemic racism.
stay safe you guys! wear a mask, wash your hands, etc.
much love. xx
You may have heard that Grant Imahara died earlier today. He was famously a part of Mythbusters, but also a pillar of the nerd community in LA. A brilliant electrical engineer, he loved using his massive amount of skill to bring joy to people, especially children—one of his pet projects was recreating working BB-8 and Baby Yoda animatronics and taking them to children’s hospitals to make kids smile.
Erika Ishii has suggested, if you’re able, to honor his memory with a donation to Magic Wheelchair, a nonprofit org that creates epic costumes and fx for kids in wheelchairs at no cost to their family.
Magic Wheelchair is a nonprofit organization that builds custom "costumes" for children in wheelchairs. Our goal is to put a smile on the f
This is magical! My student could definitely use this!

disabled women of color are capable and deserve to be recognized and respected
can we talk about how the myth of human progress is probably what lends to this idea that eventually things like racism will correct itself with time…because those people believe that humanity is on some natural upward trajectory towards good instead of realizing that no such thing exists and it’s within our hands to determine whether we as a society progress
I’m getting fed up with this whole “feminism as an identity” thing. Time for “feminism as an action.”
So instead of asking “can a feminist do x?” ask “is doing x a feminist action!”
Can a feminist take her husband’s last name? Mu. Null. Question un-valid, please un-ask question.
Is taking your husband’s last name a feminist action? No it isn’t. It doesn’t challenge the patriarchy in anyway, it is the status quo thing to do, it is what is expected of women, and it carries a lot of historical baggage about ownership and shit like that.
But that’s okay, your life choices don’t have to be 100% dictated by your politics unless you want them to. And it’s okay to really want to take his name while recognizing that you also want to do the feminist thing and keep your own, and it’s okay to feel conflicted and have a hard time making the choice. But no more of this enabling “as long as I made the choice myself it is a feminist choice” -bullshit. Own your choices, even the ones that aren’t informed by your feminist politics. You are still a human being and people do shit that contradicts their politics and even interests all the time. Just stop pretending that everything you do is feminist because you are a feminist, that’s not how it works.
^^this is why bell hooks challenges us to say “i support feminist movement” or “i support feminist action” rather than “i am a feminist.” she says that once we say “i am a feminist” and make “feminist” an identity rather than a political movement or a set of beliefs and the actions resulting from those beliefs, we can become complacent and think the battle is over.
Not completely related, but related, this is also my issue with academic articles, especially when they're research involves special populations (ie: poc, mentally disabled, mentally ill, queer folks, etc.), like we don't even have free access to information and studies carried out about it. People complain about Americans not being educated, but education cost money, and access to resources that can educate people is barred because of this.
