āOnly surviving gravestone from the burying ground at New Castle, Eighteenth Century tobacco port on the Pamunkey River near this place. Removed from eroding riverbank during the 1940s by Haddon Christopher Alexander.ā The stone is in the cemetery at Immanuel Episcopal Church, in Old Church (Hanover County), Virginia.

Preserved forever? Seems a little lateā¦
Jk. Glad the ABT was able to preserve the site of the Cold Harbor tavern.
Recently Iāve wrapped up two book, āGates of Fireā by Steven Pressfield and āCall Sign Chaosā by Gen. Mattis. Both were good in there own way. I came across āGates of Fireā because of Gen. Mattis. Itās a book heās recommended in past interviews and is on his personal reading list. I also believe it is on the Marine Corps Reading List. Itās an interesting take on Sparta in the years and days leading up to the Battle of Thermopylae, from the perspective of a perioikoi. Its not a traditional feel good read (the narrator is Greek and guess who didnāt win at Thermopylae?) but worth it if you find the topic interesting. āCall Sign Chaosā covers Mattisā life and career from childhood to his leaving US Central Command. Heās a contemporary figure for us, so obviously he inspires debate that goes beyond his own conduct. Mattis is also a man who has served closely with three presidents (G.W. Bush, Obama, and Trump) and has managed to have conflict with all three (and thatās according to the book, not my opinion). So needless to say heās an interesting figure. But āCall Sign Chaosā is not a tell-all. For people interested in the man Iād say itād be a good read, but itās not detail battle tactics, a political exposĆ©, or a āhow toā on being a leader.

Whenever I refer to my wife as a āhandsomeā woman she looks at me with disgust. Maybe itās because Iāve been leaving the āportlyā out?
āThe legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.ā
