“Hey, are you going to keep making that stupid face at the cup or are you going to drink it? I swear I didn’t put anything strange in it today, I didn’t even make it.”
For once it’s a perfectly normal cup of tea, made normally specifically to mess with his friend.
❝If it’s so normal, then you can drink it.❞
Offered a good-natured smile. It was oft the guesses and suspicions that kept his interest. After all, the excuse of an illness or the lunch with the Second brother later is always an efficient one to use. ❝I’ve been falling behind my sleeping schedule. Such a waste, but I’m afraid you’ll have to enjoy these luxuries yourself.❞
He’d been fairly young at the time he’d first met his elder brothers for the first time, yet Xuanyu had felt just a little more attached to the second eldest out of the two of them. While he was timid at first, he couldn’t help but occasionally try to give Meng Yao small gifts or do small favors as a thanks for the kindness he was given. With one small hand lightly grasping his second brother’s pant leg, the other is holding a small crown of flowers, one he’d wanted to place on the other’s head.
@moxxuanyu
The Sect Leader lets out a slightly startled, surprised noise when he felt something tugging at the hems of his robes. Ah, another little one, was it? He had almost forgotten that trip he made to the Mo Residence when his father requested for him to retrieve another son of his. That was two months ago, and Jin Guangyao had a new little brother ever since.
Though he hated his father, he found no ill will in himself towards Mo Xuanyu.
❝Xuanyu, you’re not troubling others again, are you? Ah... what’s this?❞ he blinked in surprise when the child lifted a crown of flowers towards him. It was for him, wasn’t it? Jin Guangyao lets out a good-natured laugh. ❝For me? How truly, truly thoughtful of you, Xuanyu... Er-ge will treasure it dearly. Ah... shall it be kept in my treasure room?❞
“A-Yao truly is beautiful. The most beautiful. ….Of the Jin clan.”
❝Er---Er-ge!❞
The Sect Leader goes very, very red as he buried his face in his clothes. Not in public, you fool!
"I trust you."

His eyes glazed over Chengmei as he spoke. Do not use those words so lightly. The words in his head said, an afterline of pass memories. Men and women he learned to trust betrayed him one after another.
His eyes lifted from Chengmei, who sat on the opposite end of the round table they were sharing tea at, to a darkening sky. ❝Xue Yang-Gongzi, I’m afraid you might need to rephrase your words.❞ raising a cup to his lips, he took a slow and gentle sip of wine. How hypocritical, he thought, for the youngster to profess such a statement. The air around them lingered on the meal he had just treated Xue Yang that evening, as their topics transverse from business to family, from people to stock prices, and then to dark and even darker business. ❝After all, didn’t you used to be a lackey of the Yiling Patriarch?❞ it’s seldom they touched the subject of gossip, but this time, he couldn’t help himself.
❝Wei Wuxian trusted you with his dying breath. And yet you betrayed it.❞
Jin Guangyao’s eyes held neither sympathy nor condolences, pity nor empathy. He’s here to make a point, after all. Besides, it was good to prod the delinquent’s pride a little, to show him who is superior. A light chuckle left his lips when he catches a distant look in the other man’s eyes. ❝Oh, Young Master Yue, don’t look so forlorn. I’m only reminding you that there is no honour among thieves.❞
“You always know how to make me smile.”
𝐒𝐎𝐅𝐓 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒 ♡ || @lanxiichen
There was one person in this world Jin Guangyao would never have betrayed.
The man before him was someone he’d known the longest, and also someone who knew him the longest. Back when days weren’t as complicated as they were now, where secrets between them were non-existent. He liked to think that not everything he showed Lan Xichen was faked----there was times when he was genuine; when he was still Meng Yao and not Jin Guangyao. Whenever Lan Xichen spoke to him, he carried his words with the same grace and authenticity just like when he was speaking to Meng Yao. His sworn brother had never changed, and Jin Guangyao was certain that Lan Xichen would never ever change.
❝Now, now, brother. You are going to have me blushing if you keep speaking that way.❞ He joked---half-joked---preferring not to risk breaking straws. Lan Xichen’s smile always managed, somehow, to draw a warm feeling from his chest. He turns around, picking up one cup of tea with a hand, and another cup with the other. ❝Er-ge, have a drink with me.❞ He raises the cup, his eyes never leaving Lan Xichen as he bows slightly in courtesy. ❝Qin Su is making dinner tonight, I have already reserved a seat for you, dear brother. If no duties suspend you tonight, do have one with us.❞

Lan Xichen frown even deeper. It…no he can still talk? Of course it’s not the first corpse that he met that can talk, but Wen Ning’s case was a special and very rare case. Wen Ning was not a master controlling another corpse either. Had things changed that much in the pass couple of years? He hesitated for a moment. “I am Meng Yao from the Lan Clan. ..I am afraid I cannot allow you to continue to kill innocent people.”
He tensed up when he saw the bigger corpse starting moving, but stop himself from drawing his sword. If there is a chance they can talk this out than he will take it. There was something about the two that made Lan Xichen’s heart hurt. He has this really strange feeling in his gut. Just who where these two? And why did he have such a strong feeling about all this? “What reasons do you have for killing those people?” He asked. It wasn’t a random killing spree. It was a well thought out killing for certain people.
❝Meng... Yao?❞ his voice cracks from the strain of speaking. For a moment, the corpse looked as if it recognized the name, but as quickly as there was doubt on his pale, ashen face, it disappears. Jin Guangyao grits his teeth. ❝Traitor. Undignified. Unfaithful.❞ he utters those words, spitting them out as if they taint his tongue. ❝Do they not deserve death?❞ he asks, and asks again, ❝Do they not deserve death!?❞
If one could get close enough, they could hear him breathe. Slow and furious, in and out, as if he was a living human. But his breathes came from the seething anger bottling below his chest, not his need to hyperventilate.
‘The calmer a person is when he is living, the fiercer his corpse is when he is dead. That is because when he was alive, he bottled up all his anger only to let them be released in death.’
The corpse took a step forward, raising a hand, he brought the larger corpse to his side. ❝You are also traitor.❞ With another motion, the large corpse began running towards Lan Xichen.
twojadesoflan:
Lan Xichen had stiffen up when he heard that the boy had already knew his name and who he was. Meng Yao knew who he as and who wanted him and yet…Xichen was still there and not behind bars, or worst. That alone eased his mind a bit. That and the fact that he didn’t sense any ill intention from the boy. Was he right in wanting to believe and trust him? It wasn’t as if he had much of a choice. It was either trust Meng Yao or died here. Lan Xichen wasn’t arrogant to assume he can get though all this alone.
Lan Huan was never the type to judge someone base on their back ground so of course where Meng Yao came from didn’t bother him one bit. “…I believe you.” Xichen says with a small smile. “If you wanted to turn me in I would have already been dead. My life is in your hands now after all.” Even if Men Yao wanted to turn him in Lan Xichen didn’t have enough strength at the moment to resist. He tried not to wince as he let Meng Yao help him up.
“You still wish to help me even knowing who I am?” He looked down at the small boy. “If the Wen Clan know you help up they will kill you.” Xichen warned him. Rather he is a regular human or a cultivator it matters little to the Wen Clan. The last time Xichen wanted was to involved other people in his affairs.
Hearing this, Meng Yao looked as if he is reluctant to believe it for a second, but as Lan Xichen’s words resume, his chest compresses, and the servant boy heaves a sigh of relief. ❝T-Thank... you...❞ he mutters. How strange, when he is the one helping the other, he had to apologize. He takes one hand from the Sect Leader and puts it around his shoulders, heaving him up as they embark on their journey back to the brothel.
❝Don’t you want to be helped?❞ Meng Yao asks him back, pausing a second to wipe the sweat off his brows. What he meant was: if he didn’t help Lan Xichen now, there is perhaps no chance the other would be able to make it out alive. They are currently in an area near Yunmeng. Disciples from other sects probably wouldn’t have known their way around as well as the locals. In their case, if Lan Xichen blatantly asked for help in the streets, there is a high chance he will either be turned in or caught. Meng Yao is obviously taking him through the more remote paths of the village where people are scarcely seen. He looks up at the Gusu Lan Sect Leader with a placid face, trying not to make the fact that he was masking his uncertainty obvious.

It’s one of the Gusu Lan disciples that asks to see Jin Guangyao this time, though his face screams a sort of silent mourning. In his hands is an item wrapped in cloth, which he hands to the young sect leader after hesitating to speak. “Sect Leader Jin... He... First Leader Lan, he asked us to give this to you...” Upon opening the cloth, his Xiao, Liebing, laid inside in pristine condition. Liebing had been an item that Xichen always carried, so why..? “We... thought you’d want to know...”
@lanxiichen
The Sect Leader looked confused when the disciple first brought him the xiao. At first, he thought it was merely Xichen sending him a message, but the smile on his face dampens and melts into a frown as he hears the rest of the conversation. In the next few minutes, any traces of a smile was completely wiped off his face like dust from wood. He feels pain aches into his heart, a seething fracture that had been there ever since he killed Nie Mingjue, and now, that fracture widens at the news of Lan Xichen’s death. He didn’t realize he was falling when Su She suddenly rushes to his side and held his arm. ❝I am alright. I am alright.❞ he told his subordinates before thanking the disciple. He ordered to be left alone after that.
Jin Guangyao always liked his afternoons quiet and peaceful. He spent most of his days in the zen gardens of the Jin Sect, accompanied by either Qin Su or Lan Xichen or alone. These days, he brought the xiao together with him. Lan Xichen left no message on the xiao. What were his sworn brother’s last wishes? He couldn’t know now, and he definitely wouldn’t know in near future.
Stopping by a rock, he puts the xiao to his lips and blew it, reciting all the techniques Lan Xichen had taught him throughout the years. Sweet, sad, melody fills the gardens. But he wasn’t listening if anyone wondered who had suddenly decided to play in the quiet gardens at this time of the night. Relax, Er-ge... I will take care of Wangji in your stead. No matter what the Gusu Lan Sect does, the Jin Sect will give its utmost support. He pauses for a moment, allowing the last tone to melt into the air. ❝Er-ge, Da-ge... Little Brother I... wish you both eternal peace.❞

❝Brother, if I am tall enough to do it, I would have done it without telling you so.❞ He manoeuvres, the corners of his brow twitching slightly as he has to admit that he is short.
