They hear a voice from behind them.
“Hey, Vsauce, Michael here”
They turn around and find nothing. Everyone is uneasy. A new voice is heard, but from inside their heads.
“What if you were defenseless?”
An anxious look washes over everyones faces. The cleric moves a crossbow to his head. Suddenly, he drops it, and his eyes roll back. He begins to speak.
“What is defense, when you try to define it? Is it nothing more than a delusion of protection that only delays death, rather than preventing it?”
He collapses and begins to convulse. A tear rolls down the wizards cheek, and she throws a fireball at the seizing cleric.
“I… had to put him out of his misery”
The warrior and rogue comfort her. She sits down and tears begin streaming. They fall to the ground and soak into the brick floor. The rogue looks around and finds an apparition.
He falls over, instantly dead, until words escape his lips.
“Hey, Vsauce, Michael here”
The rogue stands up. The wizard stands up as well. The warrior draws his sword. The rogue begins to speak.
The warrior and wizard have shocked looks in their eyes. They’re cowering. A moment of courage appears in the warrior’s spirit, and he charges to strike down the rogue. He collapses and falls over dead.
“You can’t run fast enough, that’s for sure.”
The rogue begins chasing the wizard. She begins casting a spell, but her tears and anxiety caused her to fumble her words. Instead, she reads a scroll of protection, erecting a dome around her, 5 feet in all directions. The rogue collapses, and once again the voice is in her head.
“Protection is an illusion. In some cases, walls have ended up collapsing.”
The dome begins to close. She claws at the sides until she accepts her fate, crying and awaiting the final mercy.
