Sae wasn’t the most affectionate person ever. She kept her emotions hidden, but she had her reasons to. According to her, showing people your true feelings gets you nothing but used.
Which is why Cheol was confused every time his sister paid attention to you.
He wondered why she was always hugging you or holding your hand when Sae didn’t like physical contact.
Or why she was always looking and staring at you.
He knew you and Sae were together- a couple. He knew that. But he didn’t exactly know what couples were, or why Sae paid so much attention to you.
But he was just a kid. And kids don’t know what’s okay and what’s not okay to say. Or what’s okay and what’s not okay to ask.
“Sae, is Y/N sick?” Cheol innocently asked, causing Sae Byeok’s eyes to almost bulge out of their sockets.
“Cheol, what?”
“Is Y/N sick? Sick people require attention and you’re always giving her attention, more attention than me,” Sae wanted to laugh.
Okay, so maybe Cheol was a bit jealous, but he loved you (except he didn’t know what love was). You always took him to the ice cream man and gave him snacks to take to school, but you were also taking all of his sister's attention.
“Come here, sit with me. Do you know what love is, Cheol?” Sae took his hand, guiding him towards the couch in the middle of the living room.
“Not really,”
“You remember the cat that we had back home?” Sae asked, waiting for him to say yes or nod his head, “So you remember how you always wanted to go home to see him? And when he ran away you couldn’t sleep?”
“Is Y/N your cat? Did I love the cat?”
“Not exactly, but yes you did love the cat. But basically, love is not really a describable thing, and you know when you feel it. For example, if Y/N were to run away like the cat, I wouldn’t be able to sleep either. But human to human love is a bit different. I pay attention to Y/N because she’s my girlfriend and I love her. And I pay attention to you because you’re my brother and I love you. And although I may not hug you as much as I hug Y/N, I still love you Cheol,” Sae explained, and as she explained you were leaving your shared bedroom and you couldn’t help but overhear their conversation.
“I love you and Y/N too, does she love us too?” He asked and your heart filled with warmth, like warm chocolate chip cookies and milk, all gooey and soft.
“She does. She cares a lot for you. That’s why she’s always looking after us, after you. Y/N is a very special person to us,”
“Y/N is the best, she always gets me snacks, and I love snacks,”
“I’m glad you love the snacks Cheol,” you said as your bare feet dragged you across the cold tiles, taking a seat between the two of them, “I love you and Sae very much,”
“Sae said she loves you too,” he explained and you smiled.
“She better. Otherwise I would cry and run away, but love is a weird thing Cheol, and just like Sae said, you’ll know what love is when you feel it right here,” you took your hand, placing it over his small chest right above his heart.
“I love you and Sae a lot, that’s why we’re a family. Now who wants cookies, I was thinking about making some,”
“I would kill for some of your cookies right now,” Sae moaned throwing her head back, “Like actually kill for one,”
“Cheol, do you want to help me bake some cookies? I’ll let you mix the chocolate chips?” You asked, hoping he would say yes. You loved spending time with Cheol, it made you feel like a mom, and truthfully you had always wanted kids.
But that was a conversation that you needed to have with Sae later on.
“Listen everyone, they’re Y/N and Cheol cookies, so they are 100 times better,” you exclaimed, as Cheol jumped on your back and Sae shook her head smiling, “Honestly Cheol, we should open a bakery,”
“You haven’t even baked anything yet,” Sae shouted as you and Cheol walked away.
“What a hater,” you joked, shaking your head, “Another thing Cheol, sometimes, love means you make sacrifices for whoever you love, like your sister did,” you and Cheol quietly conversed as you walked into the kitchen, carefully sitting him down on the island.
“Sacrifices?”
“It means that you do dangerous things, but you’ll understand this when you’re a bit older. But for now, because we’re a family and Sae loves us, she did something very risky for us, and I would do the same too,” your hands were rummaging through the cabinets trying to find everything you needed to make your cookies with Cheol, as you tried to explain to the small boy what sacrifices and lover were.
“You know that feeling you get when you bite into a cookie, and it’s warm and soft? Just how you like it?”
“Yeah, it’s like magic?” He picked up one of the measuring cups, standing up in a little step stool that made him tall enough to reach the sink and washed it. He knew it was clean, and so did you, but he always saw you rising things off before using them.
“Exactly! When you love someone your heart feels like that every time you see them. And you’ll feel butterflies in your tummy, but this isn’t for family love, it's for relationship love, like boyfriend or girlfriend love.” He looked confused so you decided to explain more while measuring your ingredients, “Every time I see Sae, I get butterflies in my tummy, and I blush because I love her. But when I see my parents or cousins, even though I love them I don’t get butterflies or blush. There’s different kinds of love,”
“I get butterflies when I see Kimmy from school, she’s really pretty,” He was blushing, and if that wasn’t the cutest thing you had ever seen, than nothing was cute.
“Aww, see you know what it is. But it might also be that you like her. Love is confusing, but you’ll figure it out, you’re smart,” you said, handing him the cup of brown sugar so he could add it into the mixing bowl.
“Have you figured it out, Y/N?” He asked and you shook your head.
“Yes but no. I still have time. But if there’s one thing I know for sure, is that you and Sae will always have my love,”

You and Sae would find it adorable, and funny. Every time you would come over Cheol would run away with a cute pink blush on his cheeks.
It didn't take long for Sae to figure out he had a crush on you, and she wasn't upset about, he was just a small boy with good taste.
You did enjoy teasing him about it, in a good-loving way of course, he was your brother in-law aftercall.
"Cheol, guess what?" you asked the small boy who was playing a game on your phone, something that he did a lot when he was bored.
"What?"
"Since Sae is at work today, and I'm not, we could go out for ice cream, only if you want to of course,"
"I'd love to get ice cream with you, Y/N, you're my favorite," his words always made you smile. He was so innocent, young and full of positivity, you wished everyone were like him.
"Between me and Sae, who is your favorite?"
"Don't tell Sae because she'll be upset," he whispered making you laugh as you grabbed your wallet.
"I won't, but only if you promise not to tell her that you're my favorite," you spoke, giving him your pinky for him to promise on.
"I won't" he joined both of your pinkies together before you placed a quick kiss on his cheek.
"Good! Now, let's go before the ice cream man leaves,"

When you go home, the place that is supposed to be your safe space, you still feel watched. And when you shower, you cover your body up with your hands because you still feel like you're being watched.
Paranoia. Your therapist said it might be paranoia and PTSD. PTSD from when your step-father, that poor excuse of a man, used to watch you shower, and change.
“The human brain is a tricky thing, and when you have traumatic experiences tamper with it, it’s even harder to understand,” she explained, and you nodded your head.
Everyone thought you were going insane. But you knew someone was there, someone was always there.
“How do I make these feelings go away?” You were going insane, feeling like someone was watching was driving you closer and closer towards insanity every day.
“Assure and remind yourself that no one is there. I mean have you ever caught anyone following you?” You shook your head, “Exactly, no one is there. You’re safe,”
You’re safe. You didn’t feel safe. But she was right, no one was there. At least that you could see. Everywhere you looked, you found nothing.
You pushed the thought away, grabbing your coat and keys, leaving your apartment. The craving for a cup of matcha taking up all of the space in your brain.
You were met with a large number of boxes in front of the door next to yours. That apartment had been empty for years, and you were a bit upset someone had taken it. Now you had to worry about them making too much noise and disrupting your peace.
“Hi, sorry for the mess, I’m just trying to get everything out of the truck,” a girl that looked around your age apologized.
She was tall with short black hair, and the prettiest eyes you had ever seen, “Oh, no worries, do you need any help?” You figured your matcha craving could wait for a bit.
“I wouldn’t want to be a bother,” She explained and you shook your head.
“Oh nonsense, I wish I had someone to help me when I moved in. I know how frustrating it is. I’m Y/N by the way,” You smiled, picking up one of the small boxes.
“I’m Sae, Sae Byeok,” she gave you a pretty smile, she had a pretty name, “You can set that down in the main room, and thank you,”
It had taken both of you around 30 minutes to finish bringing all of the boxes inside, and your stomach was growling and eating itself.
“Do you wanna go eat something? It’s on me,” Sae asked and you nodded your head.
“I will pay for myself though,” you replied and she shook her head.
“You won’t, it’s my way of repaying you,”
“No ma’am, you don’t have to pay me in any way, shape, or form,” you grabbed your keys from the floor, getting ready to leave while she muttered a ‘we’ll see about that'.
Since she didn’t know much of the area, you ended up picking a small restaurant that you often found yourself at.
“I come here a lot since it’s walking distance, and just convenient,” you said walking through the main doors, the smell of freshly brewed coffee hitting you in the face like a smack.
While picking a seat, you noticed something. You no longer felt a pair of eyes on you, ever since you left her apartment you didn’t feel watched.
Which was weird, you were used to feeling that way, that when you no longer felt it, it felt strange.
“What do you get from here?” She asked as she read over the menu.
“Oh, ummm, I usually go for the avocado toast with the eggs, and a small matcha,” you replied, you had an uneasy feeling in your stomach.
Like the one, you get when things are about to go wrong, but you weren’t quite sure of what it was. You didn’t want to seem rude, so you pushed them away once again.
“You like matcha? Matcha is literally my favorite drink,” she exclaimed, making you smile.
“No way? My friends say matcha is a hate crime,”
“Your friends are a hate crime,” she replied, making you laugh, “Like, how do you not like matcha?”
“Dude, I don’t even think they have tried it, they’re just matcha slanderers,” you sarcastically rolled your eyes.
“Matcha slanderers?”
“Yeah, all they do is slander me and matcha,”
Over the course of the meal, you realized you and Sae had many things in common. And you both agreed you were the same person in different bodies.
“If you need help unpacking and organizing just text me, organizing is my thing,” you spoke standing in front of the door, her stare making you blush, you were glad you were a good distance away otherwise she could tell.
“I will. Have a good night, Y/N,” she smiled at you, opening her door while waving at you with her hand that was holding her matcha.
“You too,” you smiled before walking in.
It was too early to admit you had a crush on her, but you knew sooner or later you would have a crush on her.
Which wouldn’t be much of an issue because you noticed she was gay right away, the problem would be for her to like you back.
But you weren’t going to worry about that right now.

Closing your eyes didn't help, and the tea that Sae brought you, which you had high hopes for, didn't work either.
You were exhausted and tired, but sleeping was clearly not in your schedule for the day. Getting off the bed as quietly as you could, trying not the wake the girl beside you, you walked to the kitchen, rummaging through the pantry looking for a snack.
You closed your eyes, throwing your head back when a cup fell and shattered on the floor, you hoped and prayed that it didn't wake her up, but when her slim figure came into your view you felt terrible.
"What happened?" Her voice was groggily and tired, which made you feel even worse.
"I'm so sorry for waking you up. I was trying to make no noise but then the cup fell," you were crying, you got extremely sensitive when you couldn't sleep.
"No no it's okay, I had to pee, it's not your fault," her arms wrapped around your cold body, you dropped your head on her shoulder as tears slowly streamed down your face, "Come on, I'll go to the bathroom and we can watch a move until you can sleep,"
Sae had always been compassionate and understanding, which is why you loved her so much.

Sae wasn't mad, but she wasn't happy either. You knew Sae wasn't a pet type of person, but you were getting bored every time she went to work, and thought that having something with 4 legs running around the house wouldn't be a bad idea.
"Oh come on Sae, look at how cute he is," you said pointing at the black cat walking between her legs.
"Y/N. You know I don't like having pets of my own," she signed throwing her head back.
"You want me to take him back?" You asked, you were willing to bring the small cat back with all the pain in your heart.
Now she felt bad, because the cat was cute, and she the smile on your face while you played with him was too, "I can't believe this is happening, but no. We can keep him, just keep him away from my things,"

It had been 6 days since you had last heard of Sae, and you were definitely worried.
The last time she reached out to you was to let you know that she was safe, that she was coming home soon and that she loved you a lot. You were hoping that it was true, no texts, no calls, nothing for six days.
For six days, you were scared to answer then phone to someone telling you she was either found dead or that she was kidnapped.
But when you heard keys jiggling on your door, and her voice calling out your name, you body filled with something that it had never felt before.
You got up from the couch, running to the foyer to find her, stomach dropping at what was in front of you.
Her face had cuts and scratches, and the tank top she was wearing was stained with what you were guessing was blood, “Sae, where were you? Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m good, Please help me fix this,” her dainty fingers pulled up her shirt revealing a pretty big stab wound on her stomach.
“Sae, what the fuck happened to you? You better explain after we’re done fixing this,” she could tell you were getting upset.
But her heart still jumped at the fact that you were upset because she was hurt.
You dragged her to the bathroom, sitting her down on the sink and treating her wound.
You would apologize every time a hiss fell past her lips.
She was glad you worked in an emergency room, otherwise she would’ve had been taken into the hospital for stiches, “It’s a deep cut but it’s not that deep, you should be glad it didn’t puncture your stomach,” your tone was blank and emotionless, and she could tell that you were really upset.
“There’s a suitcase on the floor, it’s filled with money that I won in a game,”
You looked at her with a confused expression on your face, “Pardon me, what?”
“There was this man, he handed me a card to play a game with, I called and they took me to some strange island, but the rest of the players didn’t see because they were asleep, but that’s beside the point,” you were still confused as you did the last stich, “We had to play kids games to win the money, but if you got eliminated you died, only one person could win,”
“Sae, you could’ve died? Why would you ever do that? What was going through your head?” You had so many questions, who was this man and this game?
“I didn’t know. I thought it would be games like poker in a casino, but that doesn’t matter anymore, because you don’t ever have to work another day in your life, love,” she said, her hand coming down to your jaw.
“That doesn’t matter Sae, I could’ve lost you. I would rather work every day and night for the rest of my life if it meant I could be with you,”
“I’m here now okay? And I’m never leaving you again,”
