Tommy leaned against the bar with a sigh, letting his eyes sweep over the crowd in front of him in relative disinterest. He was never a club guy, even when he was younger and still trying figure out what it was he wanted. But this was where Gina had wanted to go for her birthday and as Sal so eloquently put it, 'you only turn thirty-five for the fifth time once.'
So, there he was, the disgusting aftertaste of birthday cake flavored vodka lingering on his tongue from the shots Gina had insisted on. They had left him for the dancefloor not long after, Sal playing annoyed as Gina dragged him off, tossing Tommy a look over his shoulder that said 'get your ass out here and pretend to have fun.'
Tommy took a long drink of the beer he'd ordered, considering whether it would be worth Gina's wrath to call an Uber and duck out while they were distracted when his eyes landed on a familiar sight. Evan was standing a few feet away, leaning casually against a table as a woman chatted him up. Tommy hated the twist of jealousy he felt in his gut when she reached out to lay a hand on his arm. Not that he had any right to feel it, not when he had been who walked out of Evan's life so many times.
He should turn away. He should finish his beer and leave while he has a shred of pride left.
But Evan looked so good he couldn't look away. His curls were carefully tousled, shirt unbottoned all the way down to where he had tucked it into his pants. There was a new tattoo peeking out from under the collar of the tanktop Evan was wearing and Tommy felt his mouth go dry as his eyes traced over it. His gaze trailed back up to Evan's face and there was jolt of surprise when their eyes met.
He saw Evan's lips move as he pushed off the table, the woman's hand falling off his arm as he walked away from her, his gaze never leaving Tommy's. Tommy's body reacted before his brain could catch up, pulling him toward Evan like a magnet until they met in the middle.
"Now, what's a guy like you doing in a place like this?" Evan asked, a playful smirk tugging at his lips. Tommy couldn't help but laugh. Any nervous energy he might have felt melted away when Evan smiled at him like this was what he had been waiting for. Like the months of half awkward check-in texts were all leading to this moment.
"I could ask you the same thing. Isn't this place a little out of your way?" Evan shrugged.
"I'm starting to think it was worth the drive," He murmured, stepping closer into Tommy's space. His hands came up on instinct to rest on Evan's hips, fingers itching to tug his shirt loose and slip under the hem to find skin. Tommy let eyes drop down to Evan's chest, where the fresh ink and the slightest hint of chest hair were and frowned.
"Wait. Is this...my shirt?" He asked, plucking at the fabric. Evan looked down at himself and chuckled, looping an arm around Tommy's neck to pull him closer.
"Hm, could be," Evan said, the all too familiar expression on his face sent Tommy's blood blazing. "You want to take it back?"

Sal walked away from the bar, shaking his head in annoyance as he tugged his phone from his back pocket. He should have known Tommy would slink off as soon as he was out of their sight. Sal wasn't going to let him get away with it this time. He was going to call him right up and pass the phone to Gina and let Tommy explain to her himself why he'd bailed on her birthday. He was about to press the call button when the peal of Gina's laughter reached his ears.
She was standing at a table with two men, and he might be a little annoyed that she was drunk flirting without him if she hadn't been eagerly waving him over. Her smile was twitching, like she was holding back more laughter as he siddled up to the table and laid an arm around her shoulders.
"Sal, baby, this is Ravi and Eddie!" She told him, a little too excitedly. "They're fire fighters, too!"
"Is that right?" Sal asked, taking the two men in. They nodded in greeting and Gina giggled a little.
"Tell him what house you're at," She insisted. The guys exchanged a look like they were debating if they should call in a mental health check. Sal didn't really blame them.
"Uh, the 118," the one Gina had introduced as Ravi said.
"Oh, no shit? I used to be at the 118."
"That's not the best part," Gina cut in, stopping any shop talk before it could even start. "They're here with a friend, and they haven't seen him in nearly half an hour. Want to take any guesses who that might be?"
Sal was about to ask her how in the hell he was supposed know when she burst into another fit of giggles. No, that wasn't the right word. Gina was howling with laughter. The realization hit Sal right between the eyes.
"Fucking hell, not Buckley."
"You know Buck?" Eddie asked and Sal groaned.
"Unfortunately, well enough to know exactly where he probably is." He turned without looking to see if the other two men would follow.
The music was a little more muted in the hallway where the bathrooms were. Sal banged his fist against the door to the men's room.
"Tommy, I swear to god, if you don't bring your ass out here right now, I'll call the cops on you myself and make sure they send Sergeant Grant to arrest both of you for public indecency."
"Tommy?" Eddie asked from behind him at the same time that Ravi groaned, "Not again."
Sal's hit the door again.
"I'll call Donato, too!" He threatened. A minute later the lock on the door clicked. Tommy and Buck stepped out together, their clothes untucked and misbuttoned, their hair wrecked. Tommy had a red spot rising on his throat and there were obvious bite marks brusing on Buck's chest.
"I hate you both," Sal muttered as they grinned smuggly at each other. He looked over at Eddie and Ravi. "Your tab still open?"
"Uh, yes?"
"Great. Because I'm drinking until I forget this happened."
