YGPIM ANALYSIS/BREAKDOWN: 3rd analysis!

Original Steven Universe Peridot will be referred to as "The great and lovable Peridot"

Original Steven Universe Rose Quartz will be referred to as "Steven's mommy"

This time we'll get to Peridots log after the art as her log this time is more so a reaction to this scene than just a usual summary of her day.

Let's begin with the color schemes. The difference between this color scheme and the previous one is how the pinks are much more vibrant compared to previous showcases of pink. Along with this we can acknowledge how close the pinks and greens have come together if this isn't foreshadowing I have no clue what is😭

We begin with a rose approaching Peridot, and asking what gems are constructed here. Keep in mind that curiosity on Homeworld isn't particularly encouraged; change is practically looked down upon and resented. Peridot gives her a full fledged answer nonetheless

"Bismuths, to aid in the building of structures on this colony"

Rose replies with yet another question, "How is it that you decide what gems go where?" continuing to send Peridot into a rant off explaining all the nooks and crannys of constructing gems in an empire. You have to zoom in to really read it but Peridot genuinely goes into detail of how being in her shoes and title truly works

"In the early stages you need 'accounting for organics interfering with the'??"

"You have to consider mineral percentages interfering with-"

"Iron deposits impact the 'sturdiness'?"

"On an aquatic planet, you have to be worried about-"

"How the proteins will impact the DNA-"

Now some of these were guesses when I was reviewing them but nonetheless this is extremely informational.

blah blah blah, Peridot is for a fact VERY into explaining this; yet another call back to the great and lovable peridot with how she's so interested in what she does as a whole.

Returning to color for a moment, Peridot and Roses colors sit in this purple-blueish scheme that has this feeling of mystery almost? With Peridot and Rose having a glowing hue together. I feel this foreshadows the adventures and mystery they will confront together.

When it comes to our introduction to Rose Quartz let's also take notice how there's intention and detail with each question asked; there's three attributes of health that we can also implement into the personality of certain gemtypes. Physical, Mental, and Emotional. Emotion applies to Rose Quartz as emotion is what we see lead them in decision most of the time we observe their character. Episode 3 of Steven Universe Future "Rose Buds" shows a proper example of how emotion is the boss of how a Rose Quartz acts as every Rose Quartz Steven meets has personality oozing with emotion being that frontal representation of the character; there's a shy rose, energetic rose, laid back rose and likely plenty of others using emotion to show who they are as a person.

But this rose differs exponentially, almost interviewing Peridot the way she asks each question, it is obvious that emotion is not the lead factor in how this Rose acts. Her reaction to Peridots entire rant is this almost professional answer saying "You're very smart, I'm glad you were the one who made me."

Now this does NOT mean that the only way this rose thinks is "science smart smart nerd hehe", no. Emotion still plays a big part of her character but it works hand in hand with her mentality.

With Peridot never before hearing a simple compliment (not established canonically but let's be honest) she's completely speechless and almost scared? I focus specifically on her hand practically clutching her invisible pearls, and her eyes the way she's literally amazed, she sees this almost failing to comprehend the fact that she's able to be audibly and physically noticed in this manner; and we'll return to this a few times because self respect and how Peridot sees herself as a whole will change widely over each comic.

Onto The Log

This log is much shorter than most of her logs before and after, but it still speaks volumes with how she questions if all roses are as diligent and interested in a peridots role as this one was. Now what we all know is that this is definitely not the case, as if we refer back to all roses seen in canon you'd take note that no rose is going out of their way to be scientific. The closest we could get to someone who is curious is Steven's mommy, who isn't even a rose to begin with. On top of that Steven's mommy was curious in a general sense whilst this rose further down the line is not only curious in science and technology but the entirety of earth as well. This would tell us what doom lingers ahead, as being different, curious, non-traditional, is exactly what would get you shattered. But both Peridot and Rose have yet to find out the hard way...

Beginning with the log we see yet another relation to the great and lovable peridot, her entire character is overflowing with ego, this log is double the size from the first one because of how much she talks about how good she is with her work, we see how she also has the same adoration for yellow diamond that the great and lovable peridot did as they both express this possibility that yellow diamond will acknowledge them and their work which we all know would never happen, there's a lot more I want to go over in the log but it relates to the art more so I’ll save it for later down this analysis. Overall, the log continues to remain this lifeless employee with a small kick of ego showcase.  

That's the log outta the way so let's move to the art. 

Before I even get to the details of the color scheme, I’d like to receive a round of applause for how right I was on the venus flytrap theory (no one confirmed anything) as when you compare just over all color from one to the other it is literally a heaven and hell difference like I said. loaded to the brim with beautiful colors, but the more you walk in, the less light there will be, and the less life you’ll see. Kindergarten literally kills the nature around it. It is inevitable for death to arrive at sites like these. 

Now let's bring ourselves to the color schemes of the second panel. We see a lot more of this venus flytrap theory as everything seems so incredibly... normal. Peridot lingers around like nothing is happening. It’s almost hilarious how airheaded she is in the first few panels (thanks Kon n farie!) how much she doesn’t know whilst being in such a withered location. Everything is right there. Laid out and she can't see it, and the black and white difference of the color scheme with peridot blooming out in the corner. It’s almost like this yellow duck surrounded by a deep tone of alligator filled swamps. To sum it up, the entirety of this scene's colors, poses, and background details are to implement this feeling of unease. 

We have this same blue, pink, and green color scheme but in this deeper tone, how peridots bright green is surrounded by these deep pinks and lifeless bluish greys. 

I’m going to save the rest of my rant for the next few days’ analysis because THATS WHEN THE JUICE REALLY GETS JUICY.

I feel that peridots first log mostly just establishes the plot of the first (season i suppose) of the comic. This first log is mostly representing the sophistication and more job like side of peridot. You could compare the way she speaks to a business email being sent to royalty, even whilst it's a personal log; this isn't for anyone's eyes but hers. It’s obvious to readers that this job is expected to be fast, regulated, and just like every other job she’s done.  

Now that we have the log out the way let’s go into the art. At the forefront were given a back view of our peridot; wearing flared shoulder sleeves rocking a hairstyle similar to the great and lovable peridot, just shortened with more rectangle shapes at the top. 

holo-tablet to the left being used to assess the location, right one giving us a small glimpse of the rose quartz gem, and the smallest one containing a small seemingly anatomy sketch which most likely is the designed build for the rose quartz since they do end up having that similar large chest, long legs, and longevity in the neck. Now where it becomes juicy is the color scheme and smallest of details.  

We see an almost set path of rose petals Infront of peridot leading into the kindergarten. I like to see this as extremely heavy foreshadowing as once she steps foot into the kindergarten her entire view upon life or lack there-of shall change forever; as she will end up meeting a rose quartz who literally changed everything peridot believed in. 

Looking up, we see two lapis lazuli flying over the kindergarten, likely meaning it was recently terraformed. So this is quite literally the start of everything. Rose Quartz and Amythyst come to life, and peridots journey through her own self-being. With lazuli’s above far enough to where you can barely notice them, possibly foreshadowing peridot to meet lapis lazuli’s in the very distant future. 

So far other than some smaller pieces of foreshadowing, stepping back and looking at the entirety of color use is where we get everything we need to know for the entire first set of panels. (from here on out a lot of this might not be intended by the creator so humor me) 

Before we get to the greens we can start with the landscape's colors, our plateaus and clouds are given these tones of bluish grey, like green blue greys can represent calmness and tranquility, but also  “In color psychology, blue-gray can evoke feelings of detachment, sadness, and uncertainty due to its hue.” (thanks, figma for the quote!) So, Peridot is quite literally walking herself into a world of pain, as she is blessed with love just for it to be taken from her in a moment's notice. Detachment in this case could represent an abundance of things. As peridot is already emotionally detached, the plateaus could mean peridot becoming detached from who she once was before she entered the kindergarten. 

Green represents calmness, health, and renewal, with renewal meaning of rebirth. Once again, the entirety of peridots beliefs and identity will be questioned, destroyed, and rebuilt from the ground up. Green can also represent inexperience. Which means so much with peridots character because physically peridot is extremely talented and experienced as she’s been doing this for thousands of years; but a thing that many peridots have little no experience in is emotional stability and emotional understanding. Funnily enough, this is practically the same emotional arc the great and lovable peridot went through. (Which I will explain further down the panels) So just by staring at the peridot and the grass around her we see her entire character arc set out for her. 

At first staring at the colors of the rose petals we see a bright pink, heavy on the (at first) as when you zoom in, some of the petals on the outer section have a darker more so dying tone of pink, I feel it could almost equate to the fly walking into a venus flytrap; loaded to the brim with beautiful colors, but the more you walk in the less light there will be, and the less life you’ll see. This could mean that the path peridots on will emotionally eat her alive (were in angst city fr)

🕊 Nadin’s Hope: A Mother, A Memory, A Future

Hello, my name is Nadin. I’m from Gaza. I’m a graphic design graduate, a wife—and now, a mother.

I finished my design studies just before the war began. I had dreams of starting a small studio, of creating art that told stories. I used to think about colors and fonts and the future.

Then, the war came. And the future became something we tried to hold onto, moment by moment.

On October 22, 2023, I learned I was pregnant when a missile destroyed my husband’s family home, killing 25 members—his mother, siblings, nieces and nephews—entire branches of our family in seconds.

We were displaced twice. Everything was gone—home, safety, routine, rest.

A few weeks later, I gave birth to our daughter. There was no crib, no celebration—not even stillness. But she arrived, quietly and beautifully. In her eyes I saw something I hadn’t felt in weeks: life that still wanted to grow.

Now, our days are shaped by decisions that could dismantle the future we are trying to build together.

Today, Israel’s government is discussing plans for a full military occupation of the Gaza Strip, including Gaza City and southern regions. The stated aim: to eliminate Hamas and later hand governing control to allied Arab forces—not Israel—but with no clear path to peace or normalcy.

The humanitarian fallout is devastating. More than 61,000 Palestinians have died in this war; hunger and malnutrition are rising sharply. Hospitals in north Gaza have shut down, and 193 people have now died of starvation, nearly half of them children.

Aid remains blocked, water is scarce, and many risk dying of hunger or disease long before future promises arrive.

We Don’t Know What Comes Next There’s no clear path forward—only uncertainty for our daughter’s life and our ability to survive another day.

This institution has never been concerned with our people; it has always been a tool in the hands of the enemy, and today it is leading us step by step toward displacement from the Strip!

My 15th Birthday… No Cake, No Gifts, No Laughter

My dad would always prepare little surprises for me—delicious cake, a gift, maybe a new toy.I was the spoiled child of the house, and my joy meant the world to my family.

But this year is different.

This year, there’s No celebration. No cake, No gift, not even a candle to blow out. This year, there is war… famine… and fear that steals sleep from our eyes. I’m not crying over a cake or a toy—I'm crying over something much more important… "My father".

The man who always held me tightly is now at risk just by stepping outside to get us food. We fear he won’t return—only a body wrapped in a shroud.

We will not allow him to walk into death traps. We love him, and we want him to stay alive. We simply cannot bear to lose more.

We are We were living a decent life like you, but this harsh prison was imposed on us. I hope that anyone with a heart and humanity will take action for us.
