ok so like one of my things w silverflint silver&flint idk however u wanna read the dynamic is that yes there is s3 psychosexual mind games era we are here in the dark together silver having his ‘i am coming to understand flint… but what am I becoming…’ arc
but by the beginning of s4 and based on what we see of the gap between seasons in s4ep9 that kinda doesn’t seem to be the vibe then? like definitely they’re still u know who they are but even during the ‘hey we’ve been fusing into one being and I realized I don’t even know what ur favourite colour is’ backstory chat, there’s not rlly a game there like it reads to me like flint is open about why he wants to know literally anything about pre canon silver and idk maybe im being taken in by the lying liar who lies but silvers response equally to me reads like him openly being like I’m as open as I can be pls let that be enough. like while it leaves silver in a position of relative strength, withholding his past, there isn’t rlly a game - they both are recognising and choosing to accept that
and then at the end when silver gives his speech to flint abt how he felt rage when he thought madi was dead and how he recognised that from flint, he’s going back to s3 - he’s returning them to the s3 flints declared a pointless forever war which mainly seems to be an excuse for him to get everyone inc himself killed - and he’s taking hands saying that he wonders if flint knows how much silver learned for him as proof that he is becoming /that/ flint who he is now rewriting into being the only version of the man who exists and I think that’s a version of him and flint he’s happy to explode but it also isn’t rlly the one that exists at that point in the show
there is a brief window, imo, where flint has learned to see past his own grief and also beyond his own personal goals (1. achieve what Thomas wanted for Nassau and in the process make the navy go wow we’re so sorry we didn’t recognize how smart and sexy and talented you are pls forgive us 2. burn everyone who made 1 impossible) and silver hasn’t yet sunk into his own grief or what comes after for him where idk. They’re definitely not a model of healthy communication there’s plenty of issues - flint ignoring silver and going into the fort, silver and his discovery of Thomas/immediate response being like hey captain if someone were hypothetically to be like war or Thomas which would u pick hey madi if this hypothetically like alllll went away haha idk how that could happen but if it did would we still be … ?
but there are also the convos he has w flint and hands in ep8 where to flint he’s like we trade the cache and we rebuild this with whatever’s left, and his threatening hands when hands says ‘pls can we have a who will rid me of this troublesome priest moment I would /love/ to rid you of that troublesome priest’ where sure silver potentially does have a back pocket escape clause but I don’t think he planned to ever actually use it (if it exists) until flint takes the cache and then there we are.
anyway I have more thoughts abt how madi ties into the changing dynamic but this got rlly rambly so
