- wandering Hiro -
I've seen big hero 6 so many times I can actually quote it almost entirely from memory but a couple of holes in the plot/subplots I've only noticed the last few times I've watched it (spoilers obvs)
-is hiro just pissing about? like he graduated (college? high school?) at 14 and now he just fucks around in robot fights until what? does he help in the cafe? is he paid for it? I'm not American or Japanese so idk what the child labour laws are like in either of those countries or the fantasy hybrid of sanfransokyo but I kind of want to know if this boy does anything and how and why
-why is honey lemon (a biochemist who works with extremely dangerous chemicals on the daily) working in such close proximity to rampant experimental robots, lasers, gogo's whole bike shop next door not to mention all the people coming and going. shouldn't she have like a whole separate section or even be working on an entirely different floor?
-she also works in heels which... babes come on
-in order to get into nerd school you need to build something entirely unheard of and so impressive that it could actually change the face of science so does every potential student just have a lab in their garage where they not only build things but also have the funds and time to build them
-building on this is everyone at this school impossibly rich (I know hiro gets his money from bot fight betting but everyone else?)
-how has hiro and tadashi's basement garage thing not been raided yet? There is thousands of dollars worth of top notch equipment in there. you're telling me they just leave 3d printers and computers with monitors thinner than a hair's width and vending machines in there all the time? where I live I'm worried to leave our old janky dryer and camping equipment in the garage in case they get stolen
-why does honey lemon pronounce hiro with the roll of the r like the Japanese way of saying it but nobody else does
-there was like 40 seconds between hiro tadashi and co leaving the institute and it catching fire. it was either already in flames by the second they stepped out the door or prof callaghan is the fastest arsonist on the face of planet earth
-how was tadashi (presumably) single this boy was a CATCH im still swooning 8 years later
-the car chase scene... how quiet were the streets?? you're telling me the hybrid of two of the biggest cities in the world have absolutely NO traffic or even any sign of life at that time of night??? nobody sees this tiny car with a robot attached to it being chased by a literal supervillain riding on a wave of microbots??
will add as I recall
people have already answered but i'm going to answer as well because it's an excuse to talk about my hyperfixations (college and bh6), also i mention the series a lot because its gives a lot of lore but technically it's not movie canon
1. yeah reasonably he probably helped out in the cafe (though if i recall correctly he never did in the series). He's not old enough to work in the US until 16 but the cafe is a family business so he's legally allowed to do that. Also San Fransokyo isn't actually a hybrid city and is just normal San Francisco but renamed to honor the Japanese immigrants that helped rebuild the city after the 'great catastrophe' so it's likely solely based on American child labor laws. Hiro graduated high school at 13, so he's been doing nothing besides bot fighting for at least a few months. I doubt that he ever considered his future at that age though.
2 + 3. Oh THIS. Honey Lemon definitely should not be in that lab but also none of them besides Tadashi should be working in there. The nerd lab is in the robotics building and robotics is a subsection of engineering, Tadashi (and eventually Hiro) is the only robotics engineering major. Wasabi should be in the Physics building, Honey Lemon should be in the Chemistry building, Fred should honestly be at his own school like one of them had to let him in because you need your student id to get into buildings. GoGo is the only one I'd let slide being there because she's also an engineering student but even then, she's in mechanical engineering and industrial design which should still not be in the robotics lab, she should be in a design lab which again would be a different building since SFIT is a very big campus.
Back to Honey though, iirc she's just a regular Chemistry major, not Biochem but even so she's not following any type of lab safety. No closed toe shoes, no safety goggles, her hair isn't in a ponytail or back braid, and she put her face way too close to the heated chemicals. I doubt that everything she has is super dangerous though since sometimes you have to use regular old salt or whatever mundane compounds in an experiment and considering how chill she was about her brittle pink tungsten carbide (a safe metal) ball exploding on her skin and clothes, she must have been certain that it's safe.
Her chem purse as a hero? completely different story. that thing is very dangerous for so many chemicals to just be stored in a single bag. Globby from the series proves that considering how easily that stuff could've killed him instead of turning the poor man into a chemically changing slime mutant.
4. That's just how Hiro got in. No university would ever make that their sole admission. The expo was based on the real expos from schools like MIT and the Ivy League's, in these usually current students, grad students, professors, and post grads are showcasing their work to potential employers. The fact that they had the opportunity for high school students and grads to get accepted showcasing their work as well is amazing but in all likelyhood less than five students per year would get in like that.
5. Well going back to the fact that the school is based on renowned schools in the US, yes. most students there are probably from rich families. but a good amount would also be there because of scholarships and considering hiro is a legacy (he's not the first in his family to go there) and how he got accepted i'm certain he recieved a full ride scholarship when callaghan handed him the acceptance letter.
6. San Fransokyo is a very tech advanced city, i doubt it isn't common to have a 3D printer there. Besides based on the villains that we've seen (Callaghan and the villains from the series) almost everyone has their own amazing tech or ways to copy someone else's. There's no need to steal from two teens when you can steal stuff that's way better.
7. she's latina, she has an accent
8. Fires can spread pretty quickly but that one was very likely to have a ton of fuel and was an electrical fire because of all of the projects and chemical inside of it. those were definitely catalysts in the fire which also explains why the building completely exploded so quickly. Callaghan is a stem professor he could most likely tell which project to set on fire to cause the fastest spread.
9. idk some people headcanon that Tadashi and Honey Lemon were a thing considering how happy she was to see him and she's the only one that seemed excited to meet his little brother that 'she's heard so much about'. if he was in a relationship it wouldn't be important to the story though. he seems like the type of guy to focus on education over relationships so
10. i can 100% confirm that when you live in a big city, you do not care about the robot and supervillain that you can hear from your window. also sometimes there are just dead zones in a city that always seem empty at night. they're usually pretty dangerous so i think its safe to assume they were driving somewhere near good luck alley (the place from the bot fight with yama)
yeah so watched it again and hiro recieved a grant not a scholarship (likely full ride because why else would it be in the san fransokyo newspaper)
which is pretty interesting because grants are need based and not academic based so it had nothing to do with him being a genius. pretty much confirms that he's a low income student which again makes him relatable
your average college student saturday night 🙄
reblogs appreciated!!!
(bonus 👇)
well, Hiro did get Tadashi in trouble before because of bot-fighting 💢😅
Can we please talk about how Hiro and Tadashi actually look like siblings?
They aren’t the same model at all, nor do they only have one or two small differences, they literally look so different, but have some similarities- like most siblings do.
Just look at them next to each other. Hiro is so much shorter, which can be attributed to his age, but, in a background picture, one of his parents seems to be short, so I think it’s safe to assume that he may stay on the short side, and Tadashi is over 6 feet tall. Just in comparison, Hiro has very small shoulders and a slender frame while Tadashi is broader and more muscular. Tadashi has a smaller and more squared face and jaw, while Hiro’s is larger and more rounded.
Remember, Hiro and Tadashi are biracial- Japanese and white. That’s really important, and I just want to make sure people know it.
Let’s look at them individually, because that’s where important differences come to light. I’ll focus mainly on the facial differences.
I painted them last year~o(≧v≦)o
Hiro Hamada: Tadashi Hamada? What a fucking nerd he’s so- *trips, a Tadashi picture falls out of jacket* I mean, he’s such a lose— *more Tadashi pics fall out* wh-what, m-my brothers so l-lame I, shit- *millions of pictures and journal entries fall all over the floor* th-they’re for a friend I swear- *frantically trying to pick it up* listen, LISTEN.
Everyone: *Chilling*
Hiro: *Suddenly, with a sly grin* An opinion without 3.14159 is just an onion.
Wasabi: OOOOOOHHHHH
Tadashi: OMFG
Honey: WOW-
Fred: DUUUUDE-
Everyone: *freaking out*
Gogo: *purses lips* ....you know what's really sad?
Honey: What?
Gogo: The fact that we all got what that joke meant.
Everyone: ....
*5 Minutes Later*
Tadashi: *Sobbing* we're nerds... we're fucking nerds...
Hiro: *pats his back sympathetically* I'm so sorry.
