My hot take on ace discourse

People freak out about het aces being part of the LGBT+ community, but honestly? Why? When I first started exploring ace identities I figured I couldn’t be anything other than het. My catholic upbringing pretty much squashed any comfort I could have with a LGBT+ identity. But the community accepted me for being an ace and I was able to explore LGBT+ identities safely and with tons of support! Being non-het was slowly become much more ok in my head. And I started to explore other identities. Liking girls? Fantastic and good! Liking boys? Also fantastic and good! Liking boys and girls and NB pals all at the same time? Guess what, fantastic and good! And all this safe exploration led be to ultimately settle at bi ace.

Giving people a safe space to explore is a great thing! You never know where an identity can end up. Giving people a gentle, safe space to question the gender and sexuality can only be a good thing. I’m *not* saying we don’t kick out people who are homophobic or transphobic or biphobic. That would be counterproductive. But accepting aces in the LGBT+ community really wont hurt anyone and tbh? can only help. Turning people away can stunt their personal growth. Accepting more people means accepting more people who are motivated to be active and help champion the community.

So yeah, I’m all for ace inclusion.
