Black Friday is such a joke nowadays. “Don’t miss out on 30% off” don’t piss me the fuck off. People used to hit each other over the head for a microwave that’s how low the prices were. People literally died. We used to be a country

I don't regret you but sometimes I wish I had walked away at the start and left things at hello. Because I rearranged my life to fit into yours and that's where I went wrong. Now I have to rearrange my life again and find a new future without you. And that's the hardest part of losing you.
Obviously nostalgia is a poison, but I do think we could stand to romanticize the 90s in the US a little more. But specifically for reasons like: clothes was still comfortable and good quality. Technology and the internet were at a place where more information and resources were publicly available than ever before, but capitalism hadn't really gotten its grimy hands on them, yet. Social media hadn't gotten to the point where it added multipliers onto everyone's insecurities.
We had CDs!! Digitization was being introduced, but physical media was still the default. We had public payphones. It was a little more acceptable to just hang out in public spaces. We went to physical locations to accomplish tasks. There were specialty stores where you could buy physical items in person, even if you were the only person who'd want that thing from that store in a whole year.
Average people could largely afford nice things! Like, obviously there's always been poverty here, but now it feels like most people can barely afford anything. And even the expensive things are often still poor quality.
Businesses were more adequately staffed. Standards for customer service interactions were higher, for both parties.
The beauty industry obviously existed, but it wasn't anything like the monster that it is now. Movies and TV still occasionally featured characters who liked like normal people who you might see out in the real world. (I'm not just talking about the actors who are cast, I'm also talking about the styling choices that are made.) A lot of aesthetic trends embraced mess and imperfections.
Digital centralization and communication weren't demanding maximum productivity from everyone at any given moment!
Anyway, sorry for my Boomer Moment. 🫣🫣🫣 i swear I'm not a luddite! I'd be, like, a completely different person without the internet and a smartphone, and probably not for the better. A lot of things are better now than they were then, obviously. (way less homophobia, for one🌈) But there are a few things I wish we could get back!
WE HAD LESBIAN BARS!!!
Of course you’re too much. Babe. You’re the entire universe.
