I'm rewatching TNG to actually finish it and I realized all of my passive aggressive anger issues stem from Picard. I always hated to lose on anything, and Picard's attitude of "there is always a way to fix something" and "I'm mad and gonna be sassy about it" really did not help me fix any of that.
Average Deep Space Nine A plot: "What are you willing to sacrifice for the chance at a better world? Who are you willing to hurt? Will the pain you cause now outweigh the peace that it might bring? When both choices are bad, and you do what you think is best, can you live with yourself after? Could you live with yourself if you made the opposite choice?"
Average Deep Space Nine B plot: "What do we do with all this hot sauce!?"
Another average DS9 A plot: "So many men lost, and at what cost? We cannot see the end of this brutal war. Every day we make choices with minimal victory and maximum sacrifice, have our choices yesterday been the sacrifice tomorrow? Will victory ever be something we can fully cherish?"
Another average DS9 B plot: "We're gonna talk about the Alamo with the miniatures I made and you're gonna like it"
I just read a fan theory that the reason why Q didn't bother Sisko ever again was because when Sisko punched Q, Q knew that Sisko was a legit Prophet so Q didn't want to bother Sisko again.
And now I have to sit with this information for the rest of my work day

Actually it’s 73 seconds. Data, knowing something of how human minds work, estimates that Riker will give him 60 seconds to come back (because humans prefer “round numbers”, however arbitrary the units). After 60 seconds it will take 4 seconds for Riker to fully process the conclusion that Data is, in fact, not coming back after all, and an additional 9 seconds to build to the optimum level of anxiety.
After all, comedy is timing.
I'm rewatching DS9 from S1, and realized something. Did Garak approach Julian because he knew Julian was hiding something? Maybe he felt something familiar with Julian?
(also, I love that Garak's actor Andrew Robinson said in an interview that he basically acted as Garak wanting to fuck Julian, because it's way more obvious in S1)
Gah, I love Nog. I never felt more gut wrenched when he said "because I don't want to end up like my father" half crying. He knows his dad/Rom is a great engineer, but the Ferengi culture made him be of no value to their society. Nog knows he doesn't have the lobes to be a great Ferengi, but he knows he has the same talent as his father. And by him entering Starfleet, and being the very first Ferengi to do so, he wants to prove that he and Rom do have value. But the best part coming from this was Rom, being inspired by his own son, becomes less Ferengi and proves his values on his own too. I love them so much.
I truly appreciate Ben and Jake Sisko's relationship shown in DS9. The way Ben kisses Jake on the cheek and his head & just hugging each other is just so great. Weirdly we don't see that in a lot of today's depiction of father/son relationships on TV. I see it a lot in father/daughter relationships on TV, but not much between a father/son. If I watched DS9 when I was kid, I may have had a better understanding of showing affection to others in a physical manner, not just with words or gestures. I feel like this is an aspect of DS9 that I may actually truly appreciate the most.
