I do actually find the term "main character syndrome" helpful because I think it really does a good job describing this trend where people think that they are the only ones who are interesting, who have hobbies and interests, who have complex internal lives, and who care about things like privacy and being treated with respect.

Anyway I just saw someone say that it's performative to read Sylvia Plath in a coffee shop and I am so deeply exhausted.

And the thing is that I do think that there's some truth to the idea that publicly engaging in hobbies is performative but not in the disdainful way that a lot of people think it? I think for a lot of people, doing things like reading their favorite poetry book or knitting or whatever in public is performative in the sense that they desperately want to form connections with other people with similar hobbies and so they're doing those things in hopes someone will talk to them about it.

And I don't think that's a bad thing! I think we are at a point in time where people are very deeply lonely and seeking connection in any way they can get it and sometimes that means being vulnerable and "cringey" where other people can see. And instead of judging them for that or making a disdainful tiktok or youtube "essay", maybe you should walk up to them and ask about what they're doing. You might just get a new hobby and a new friend out of it.

Every time we're standing together to be checked in or be seated or pick up something, a second clerk will turn to one of us and say impatiently "hello, I can help you at this counter," and act baffled when we say "we're already being helped." This happens every time.

When this happens at Customs they always get mad at us and split us up, then get mad that we let them split us up because we should have gone through together if we're married.

I don't want people to automatically assume that I'm married everywhere I go but can you pick up on some context clues??? our luggage matches.

So, I know there are plenty of iconic nicknames for Dick — particularly “the Boy Wonder” — during his time as Robin. All of those are great. Very cute. Very wholesome.

However, I think we need to bring back “devil-child with the laughing eyes”.

Is it a mouthful? Yes. Does it convey every single aspect of Dick’s character at that age? Immaculately so. He’s mischievous. He’s dangerous. But he’s silly and gleeful while doing it, and always laughing. Just… hopefully not at you.

They say it all the time, they just hide it behind statements like, "There will always be a power imbalance behind white/POC relationships because it's always a colonizer dating the colonized", "Black/brown men are only attracted to white women because of white supremacist beauty standards", and "White men/Asian women Oxford study."

They're very pro-segregation, just leftishly. Black men/white woman couples in particular drive them just as crazy as they do Republicans.

And them being hypocrites about it doesn't change that those are their stances. You got full-on Republican white supremacists marrying across the color line (JD Vance, etc.) and having biracial children while still being white supremacists that it's practically become a meme (Never ask a woman her age, a man his salary, or a white supremacist the ethnicity of his wife). But this hypocrisy has existed ever since white male slave owners were raping their Black female slaves to make more slave children while hanging any Black man who so much as whistled at a white woman.
