the people that do this either wont apologize unless forced to despite knowing it upsets me, or wont stop angrily apologizing and make a bigger deal out of it than i do. and they refuse to understand how they/them'ing binary trans people who dont use they/them is still misgendering.

to an extent this is kinda hilarious, an enormous showcase of stupidity on their part, as literal toddlers and strangers have gotten it right first try with no correction. i once walked into a convenience store unshaven, no makeup, in masc clothing before and got called "miss" by some random person.

oh but of course, as always, if you get upset at being misgendered, you're just a snowflake and overreacting, just another angry trans person getting upset at words.

it isnt hard to put in 0.5% more effort to talk to or about trans people than cis people, especially if you believe you love them.

Last night I sat down to write the text post to accompany this comic, but I began spiraling. There were so many things that I wanted to say that before I was even halfway through it was already three pages long.

I’m just going to truncate my thoughts.

It wasn’t the questions that bothered me, it was that I wasn’t believed.

It was that they doubled down and told me that I was “repressed”.

It was that me saying their words hurt me was apparently the wrong thing to say, and I was attacked for doing so.

It was that they told me they didn’t mean to hurt me when I knew that and already said so in my initial text to them.

It was that they told me that they were “going out of their way” for me.

One – trans tomboys exist and just because I might not want the same things you do, that doesn’t mean that my experience is invalid.

Two – I am not your charity case trans person that you need to “go out of your way” for.

Three – I thought I was your friend. In my mind, when you help a friend you’re not “going out of your way”, you help because you genuinely want to and don’t even think about whether or not it’s an inconvenience.

Four – no matter what, I still consider you a friend and though I need some time, I hope some day we can share our journeys with each other again.

[Comic description: A comic about being trans. Long descriptions follow.

1. A light-skinned trans woman with shoulder-length brown hair stands at her bathroom sink wearing a T-shirt with a fish on it, draped so that her left shoulder hangs out. Polish has been splashed against the wall. The woman’s hands are visible in the sink, with just her right thumbnail painted. The text reads, ‘Do you know what its like? / To paint your nails only to see how disgusting your hands make you feel?’ 8. The woman bends over the sink, with her eyes shut and tears streaming down her face. The text says, ‘What its like, To do your makeup wrong / and see every feature you hate (emphasis) highlighted (end emphasis)?’

9. Fully dressed with a bag on her shoulder, the woman stands in her doorway with the door open and light streaming in. The text reads, ‘Do you Know what Its like to go outside? / When all it takes is one person to think that you are large enough danger to childrens lives to end yours.’ 10. The door is closed. A single point of light streams in from the peep hole and hits the woman’s head. She has one hand on the door and is looking down at the doorknob with a sad expression. A while back my pharmacist saw my deadname on my profile and accidentially called it out, he corrected and deleted my deadname from the system so only my preferred name shows up now. There was a crowd of people behind me, so as he hands over the pills he apologized, in equal tone and volume as when he called my deadname and lied saying it's been a long day and he didn't mean to call out -his own- name. I quietly told him it was fine and he didn't need to do that for my sake.

His response: "No, it's my name now."

I went to the pharmacist yesterday, his nametag is my deadname. He informed me he's immigrating and in the process he's changed his first name to my deadname to have an English sounding name. That's why he's now able to get a reprint of his nametag to be my deadname. And repeated, with the intense seriousness of someone who is going to die on this hill: "It's mine now. Not yours. I'm taking." His tone indicated that decision is final.

Bro literally deadnamed me once, and has committed to flat out stealing my deadname. It's his now. Legally. Officially. I over heard his co-workers call him by the name.

I feel like all you Americans need to take a look at what happened here in the UK after Maggie Thatcher died. Because when it comes to tasteless celebrations fuelled by anger and the death of a hated political leader, we REALLY pushed the boat out. We had street parties. We had burning effigies. We pushed “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” to the top of the charts out of sheer hatred. Bone up kiddos, and I really hope you manage to do that truly American thing, of dramatically outdoing us with your celebrations.

Unfriendly reminder that while you're busy mourning the loss of your childs old gender, claiming you need to mourn the death of your son/daughter, there's a group of boys/girls/enbies scrambling to take your kid clothes shopping, snatching up the chance to take those "first" experiences from you forever. Your sons first fishing trip is gonna be with his best bros, your daughters first makeover is going to be with her girl friends, your kids first camping trip out as themselves is gonna be with the besties. Good luck getting those bonding experiences back. While you're busy trying to guilt-trip your kid with your weird manufactured parental trauma, there's a whole community ready to take your place as the better family.
