[TS3] Shadow Extender

Overview

This mod increases the draw distance of shadows and in addition improves the look of map view by making trees and other miscellaneous deco cast shadows, when they previously did not.

Pre-Requisites and Installation

Extract the attached .zip file into your (Sims 3 Installation Folder)/Game/Bin

Included is a "Presets" folder with configuration files I've made for different shadow map resolutions, such as 2k (2048), 4k (4096) and 8k (8192) resolution shadows. Also an "Unmodded" version that looks like unmodded TS3, in order to provide a base for your own customization.

You can of course use a preset that is meant for lower resolution shadows than you have in your game if you want the shadows to look higher resolution.

You can replace the "ShadowExtender.cfg" file in Game/Bin with any of these, and configure it further on your own if you wish.

If you don't know how to change shadow resolutions, SimsCommunity has an article on it. It's necessary to get this mod to look good.

Origin

If you're on Origin (1.69) you will need my Custom Launcher for this mod to work, and make sure to check the "Load ASI Mods" box in it.

Drawbacks

It's been reported that reflections and objects might appear lower quality with this mod enabled. If this happens to you, try opening your GraphicsRules.sgr with notepad, scrolling down to "option TreeQuality" and adjust the LODDistances to bigger numbers. This won't fix reflections, but it should help with object quality.

As some of you requested, I have uploaded are the 3 islands I had created for my Vacation Islands Pack project. These are the three separate islands and what can be found on them (click on the names to see more pictures):

Pinewood Island: Based on the Canadian Pacific Northwest. It includes a Base Camp, a Port and a Fishing Spot.

Sinangein: Based on Phi Phi, Thailand. It includes a Base Camp, a Port, a Bistro and a Diving Lot.

Copacabana: Based on Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It includes a Base Camp, a Port, a Beach Lot and a Nightclub.

All these islands are built on a tiny map size (256x256) and are meant to be used with the Traveler mod. Each island includes custom INI files and recolors, and they include no CC or Store content, except for Copacabana’s Cristo Redentor statue. 

REQUIREMENTS

I’m not sure of which EPs I did use exactly, but these are the ones I think are required: Island Paradise, Late Night, WA, Showtime, Pets, Supernatural, Ambitions, University Life, Outdoor Living Stuff.

‘Jewel of the Sands’ Hotel, Al Simhara ⛲️

*cackles*, I got the buffet table to work. Anyway, I’ve been wanting to build a resort lot for Al Simhara for quite some time, so here it is.

For whatever reason the hotel reception and the rubbish bin get flung toward the far border of the lot when you place it, so please just move them to their corresponding locations (reception counter is next to the doors into the central  fountain area, bin is within one of the arched areas at the front of the hotel).

I bulldozed an empty house not far from the base camp to place this lot.

welcome to Elliott’s (very) humble abode. it was pretty much all he could afford to put in the house at this point. it’s on the lot closest to the beach.

he’s excited to be living on his own for the first time and feels inspired to make art **once he can afford an easel**

and despite the semi-unproductive generation 1, alanis managed to get the collection helper reward which will come in handy.

Elliott is finally moving out and it’s sad to say goodbye, but he’ll just be on the other side of town from his family-- so we’ll be seeing more of them.

Because of the Lucky Palms debacle I played an extra day with the whole family before moving Elliott out onto his own lot.

Sidenote,,, the guy that Liz is talking to here (who’s also her BFF) weirdly ends up with Lydia later on due to story progression.

I know the screenshots for gen 1 were kinda bad, especially cuz while I was playing it I didn’t know yet that I was gonna post it on tumblr haha. haven’t written the other generations yet but some really cool sims have come out of the legacy. not quite sure how I want to document it yet though.
