I.O.U - FOL CHEN

Almost 3 years ago I fell in love with a track named ‘The Holograms’ by a band called Fol Chen, at the time I generally listened to music than landed in front of me with little interest in hunting anything else by the artist unless an album was easy to access. The result of this was a much loved track that slowly left my memory… Until I found I.O.U. 

This seductive track has the ability to be incredibly catchy and dance inducing whilst still remaining an air of mystery. It provides sparse verses, sensual vocals, tickling guitar grooves with echoing drum kicks and a dramatic string-laden ending, this makes for something very beautiful but also quite odd.

I.O.U opened my eyes to their most recent LP False Alarms which has recently been released on Asthma Kitty….

After posting about 'Send the pain on' in mid January I have been obsessed with this An Arbour based artist, so one can only imagine my excitement with the release of a 6 track EP. Standing out for me is 'Cosmic Claps Of Love' tinkering keys create a very catchy melody overlay a rather groovy bass line complimented with almost house themed percussions.  This can be downloaded for free via his bandcamp http://chromesparks.bandcamp.com/album/sparks-ep

Pleases me to see SOHN doing something to acknowledge his UK fan base. An absolutely beautiful performance  opening with one of the most stand out tracks of 2012 for me 'THE WHEEL' which is as powerful as ever, proceeding with an interview which hints at a forth coming album and signing, vague as always with his charismatic arrogance. Concluding the session with his more toned down and eery track 'The Tempest'.
