I think what goes wrong with both witness and tna is that the building up on tension feels flat. to me it's less appealing getting to act on instincts in the first two chapters (kissing/sex etc)

if there's tension I want it span at least 8 chapters first before we can act on it. but at least tna does it better by allowing mc to step back so that's good
