Iron Bull | Dragon Age
literally insane to me how sera's entire philosophy is "revolution doesnt have to be organized or even particularly coherent. all that matters is reminding the aristocracy they are mortal and the common people that their power is contingent on our compliance" and the game just completely fails to find it thought provoking at all in fact you as the player are expected to find it juvenile and baffling there is no way to even humor her in her beliefs without an added disclaimer that the inquisitor still finds it all ridiculous and isnt really taking her seriously

Well bully for you
These Glib Tongues Need Credit - A Dragon Age Dialogue Sorting Game!
(With dialogue from Origins, II, and Inquisition!)
My pal @boltlightning had this galaxy brain idea! I decided to build it out for fun.
Inspired by the 45 by 45 connections puzzle by Thomas Colthurst, and using its code as a base, I have made a fun(? hopefully!) game for people whose brains are full of Dragon Age quotes.
Here's how you play:
Click a quote that you recognize, then click on another quote spoken by the same person to stack them together.
Keep on clicking quotes and adding them to the correct stacks. (You can also add two stacks together.) When you have collected all of someone's quotes into one stack, it will show that your collection is complete by transforming into their name.
Don't worry - you don't have to finish the game in one go! Even if you close the window, your progress should save - as long as you come back with the same browser/device, you can continue where you left off.
The game will be complete once you have collected 27 stacks of 12 quotes each by 27 different Dragon Age characters. (All from DAO, DA2, and DAI! Sorry, I just haven't played DAV enough to have a brain full of quotes about it.)
PLAY THE GAME IN-BROWSER HERE
Hope you enjoy! ♥
breaking the things you love most isn't restricted to mages. or is it?
sad little sera
"You are strong, and your mind is sharp. You will solve problems others cannot." She smiles, but sadly.
Official Dragon Age Map with Distance Key!
I bring you a Dragon Age Map with the OFFICIAL distances calculated in miles! Higher rez version here for the regular map and here for the map with extra large boxes to help with reading larger distances.
Details under cut.
everyone enjoyed this teaser on twitter/bluesky where bull and krem slightly judge their new boss during their first week after seeing the herald act out one late evening so yall get the early snippet too
characters raised to be tools
Weapons. Trained, tested, forged in steel and fire. Failure is an inevitability that ends in death. Pain should not be felt--it should be recognized, familiar, and inconsequential
Martyrs. In the form of servants and princes, of leaders and underdogs. If blood is necessary, the martyr will lift their hands and offer it all
Shields. Like tempering a sword, but only to bear and not to lash out. Wounds are medals--not symbols of pride, but symbols of worth. A pretty shield is useless; scars mean a job well done
Experiments. Raised on the cold comfort of a lab table. Restraints are only necessary when they're not in their right mind. Is it honorable, to be twisted beyond recognition? Or is it just a necessary evil?
Monsters. Cruelty, caution, and regarding one as a creature beyond reasonable thought is tempering in its own right. But if you keep a leash at the right length, perhaps the massecre won't reach you. One can hope.
Idols. Pretty face, pretty name, pretty hands around their shoulders and throat. There to seduce, manipulate, force any feeling to come to the surface and twist it to their favor. Any genuinity stays locked behind the guilded cage that surrounds their pretty little heart
Trophies. Status and wealth and the traditions that keep someone at their heels, on their knees, to display and serve and decorate one's ballroom.
Sacrifices. Drenched in honorable clothes, prepared and adored and cleansed. The gift of hope at the cost of one's life. Is it taken with no fight? How can you escape the ropes you were born in?
"ebost issala, tal-vashoth"
i actually sketched this out at LEAST a year ago but then (motions vaguely) it ended up forgot about until i started feeling mentally ill about Jewel and Bull again in preparation for the new game
a lot of bull's characterization makes more sense when you realize that bc he is running on 20 layers of compartmentalization he functions by sorting life into "people" and "categories". categories can be good or bad and he can kill those who fit into those categories and enjoy doing it. but he cannot kill people. of course he also fundamentally sorts himself into categories and doesn't really consider himself a person.
The categories can also change depending on the situation and he absolutely admits that. At the bar, everyone is a friend. Outside of a bar, on a battlefield, the enemy are just things. Back in the bar the next night and everyone is a friend again, even the people he was trying to kill yesterday. He doesn't just compartmentalise people but also situations. It's why the betrayal makes so much sense because "Bull the friend" doesn't exist in that moment, just "Hissrad and his enemies."

i love how much it fucking sucks to be the protagonist of a da game. you did not choose this and will be seen as a legend but when the story is over you have nothing and everyone leaves you. unless you're rook then you did sign up for this and you get to keep your found family as everyone heralds you as a hero
time to project my own personal agendas
what does the iron bull deconstructing from a high-demand occupation/culture look like for him? what personality traits arise in him that went dormant under repression?
from the writing in veilguard— despite my misgivings with it— it seems like bull becomes quicker to name his emotions, to name his attachment to a romanced PC, to name the harm inflicted on him by a repressive government/a social role that forced him to be deceitful.
i see honesty, hard won, coming more to the forefront. i see more indulgence— think fine wines, chocolates, food, finery (jewels, necklaces, earring) i see a grooming— though not manicured— perhaps facial hair and longer hair (as shown in concept art (i’m writing a lil ficlet about this))
and sue a guy, i’m curious what arises in his relationship dynamics. so much of his sexual persona is rooted in control/rigidity. i mean the man is into bondage pretty heavily. i don’t think that goes away, nor do i think he does a role swap to being a switch/submissive. not because this would be degrading but simply he doesn’t seem to regard these roles with any interest (aside from an offhanded comment early game)
but i’m curious about how deconstructing from a cult, plays (if at all) into his mental construction surrounding his sexual roles/relationship roles/internal construction of self?
much much food for thought … and i’m chewing baby
crunching on bull again… what a guy
self admits to being the odd one out within the qun (he get too attached to people! he cares too much! he (despite excelling) doesn’t actually fit into the role they gave him!) creates a crew as a cover but gravitates towards misfits and outcasts (he gives a very utilitarian answer for why but frankly i see it more as him feeding some part of himself desperate to be seen as right by giving it to other people)
thinking of killing machine borne from lonely, caretaking child, whose own maternal figure feels he benefits from getting away… god that has to fuck with him. because he ostensibly can play the role the qun wants but not if he wants to keep his people— alive, most importantly but also his.
i do sometimes wish they delved more into him and his caring side and how that really works in a collectivist society but how it also clunks. like the protector framework he has is a needed framework… he can kill (despite a moral aversion to it) but only if it for care, for defense (then he can take a perverse delight in it). the needs of the many trump his own (until they don’t as evidenced by vasaad)
iddddkkkk he can do it all
