Openness.
As soon as I moved I wanted to do something out of the ordinary. Something I have been wanting to do ever since I moved out from home. Paint. My. Walls.
Paint them the way I want them to look, in a creative way that other people maybe only have in a similar way, but not exactly what I have.
I couldn’t start painting right away, because I had to get some research done first. I had no idea what type of color I needed - or even the color itself I needed - or what brushes I needed. I didn’t even know what kind of pattern I wanted. So I looked up a few possible ideas, mixed them up, bought the colors I thought would fit together best, and even then I couldn’t start painting yet.
At first I had to tape an entire wall over 3m long. I didn’t even know how to tape it, I just got on a ladder and went for it like others would just start writing on the walls. In the end the whole wall was taped in diverse triangular/rectangular shapes. And now I still couldn’t start painting.
I ended up taking a photo of my wall, opening it on my iPad and drawing on it. With three different colors I tried to color in the spaces so that no colored space would touch another same colored space. That was a tricky one! There were a few spaces I just couldn’t make it possible and the same colored spaces would be touching. Originally I wanted the whole wall to be in color. But since I couldn’t fix my problem, I decided to put in a few white spaces. Those would be spaces I wouldn’t color at all. Not the plan I was originally going for, but I had no other choice. Plus I thought it might give the room a bit more to breathe instead of having a whole wall full of color. This was a chance for me to be open to something new, something I originally hadn’t thought of whatsoever.
Afterwards, I finally got to painting. I got my brushes out and painted the spaces of one color each day. On the fourth day I removed all the tape and the result was absolutely wonderful. I love it till today. Most importantly, it showed me to more open to new, uncommon and unplanned suggestions in life. May it just be a color on the wall or something entirely different.
All in all this took me about a month to accomplish, mainly due to the research beforehand. And there is another wall in my apartment I have set my sight on. Still haven’t decided on what I want to paint there, I’m still looking up some ideas.
