this dril tweet is just drunk wv
so last year during a period of intense suicidal depression i made this necklace that i always wear, right, and the thing is it's genuinely brought me a lot of comfort and relief and i've developed a strong sentimental attachment to it, to the point that i can inarguably state that it's had a net positive effect on my mental wellbeing. however i did now just have to stop to almost throw up laughing because i realised that i've succumbed to the amulet.
this is probably my favorite tiktok of all time and I finally got around to showing it to my dad the other day and now he comes home every day and tells me about all the places he saw crumbling concrete and says "guess they didn't add enough chinchilla flakes"
My dad has worked in construction is whole life, primarily with a company that does concrete foundations, and I immediately sent him this back when I first found it on TikTok, and he IMMEDIATELY shared it with everyone he worked with. They apparently still quote it on his job sites to this day.
Springs of Beleriand
One of the final resources before I can post my geographic resource masterlist
Waterfalls
There are so many rivers and streams in Beleriand and their springs and sources sometimes play important roles in the story.
Eithel Ivrin of the spring of Ivrin was located unnamed mountain in the Ered Wethrin , on the southern border of Hithlum to the north. The lands of Nargothrond fell directly south. The river Narog, the largest and southernmost tributary of the river Sirion flowed from these pools to where it met Sirion in the Valley of Willows. They was said to be blessed by Ulmo and were the place of several important events in The Silmarillion and Great Tales. The pool was defiled by Glaurung who also uprooted the beech trees which grew around it
Eithel Sirion was in the eastern foothills of the Ered Wethrin, on the border of Mithrim to the west and Ard Galen to the East. The river Sirion, the largest of the rivers of Beleriand ran from Eithel Sirion to the havens of Sirion and into the ocean. It overlooked the plains of Ard-galen. It was the location of Barad Eithel, the fortress of Fingolfin.
Rivil’s Well was located the highlands of western Dorthonion. Rivil was the smallest and northernmost tributary to the river Sirion which it met a short ways later at the Fen of Serech. It was the location where Beren tracked, found, and killed the orcs responsible for the killing of his father and other Bëorian men
Shadowy Spring was in The Ered Gorgoroth, which separated Dorthonion from Nan Dungortheb, the dreadful valley north of Doriath. According to Christopher Tolkien’s map of Beleriand, the shadowy spring is located south of the pass of Aglon. Aros and Esgalduin, two tributaries to Sirion, flow from these springs to meet Sirion on the southern border to Doriath
While not named, we also know that the source for Nen Lalaith is in the Ered Wethrin too, upon Amon Darthir. We also know that the source for Gelion is on the southern side of the hill of Himring on the March of Maedhros.

if theres one thing that really pissed me off from my 3 years of architecture i took in high school it's learning about how we used to have all these little techniques to maximize or minimize heat or warmth and now we just merrily abandoned all those to have the same copypaste style buildings everywhere that are often INCREDIBLY unoptimized to the local weather and climate so we can just throw more money at our heating and cooling bills
where i live it is hot as balls approximately 80% of the year. i do not want a massive butt-ugly grey mcmansion with a huge echoey open-concept kitchen-livingroom-foyer-diningroom-staircase that has huge windows so i can have an hvac unit the size of a barge heaving and straining to keep it at a constant 72 the grees. i want a north indian traditional style home with small windows to force the airflow to cool, decorative grates to limit the amount of sunlight, and a COURTYARD with a POND *smashes unspecified large object*
I hate learning about instances of "oh yeah we know how to do that, we just don't".
this is exactly why I love talking about historical passive heating and cooling techniques
oh wow the glass-tower office buildings we constructed when we thought air conditioning and central heating would never have downsides...have downsides?
and we're still building them?
while the Victorian house museum where I work, with thick walls and small windows and big wooden shutters stays ~10 degrees above (winter) or below (summer) the outside temperature for days on end with no help at all?
uh. okay then
(also public transit. the history of public transit in the US is infuriating, because we had it! and then we destroyed it!)

What's worse?
If you're thinking 'it depends' about any of these scenarios, imagine the worst version.
What's the worst thing to have to watch on film or TV?
Eye gore/injury
Genital gore/injury
A child is hurt or killed
A pet is hurt or killed
A person is horribly embarrassed in a way they could have avoided
Note: this is not about what's worst *in real life*.
