Beach be RAW!

As you know, I love shooting raw, natural images in black & white with little to no, photoshop.

I usually shoot these within a studio setting but, it is nice to get out in to the world and add drama…

These images were shot at Barry Island and the rugged rocks add an extra dimension

Some times the rugged rocks can be used to contrast the pose or, to add a connection.

There is beauty in softness & harshness. In darkness and in light - That is what raw photography is all about

Fashion portrait

Fashion portraiture holds a special place in my heart. It sits within a couple areas of photography most notably and obviously “fashion” and “portrait”.

Fashion photography is all about selling the garments/items. The elaborate styling and storytelling to sell the pieces. Portraiture is all about telling the story of the person, capturing their essence, their being.

Fashion portraiture is a bridge and links the emotion of the individual and their connection to the garments. This is often achieved by the use of subtle, muted styling to help illicit a response. If we look at the work of Peter Lindbergh (one of my favourite photographers) the styling is controlled, comfortable. Emotive.

This is what motivates me. Creating that connection with the person, using the simple and subtle styling to help build that connection and not distract from the emotional bond

The comfort in the garmens combined with a relaxed social engagement builds that bond, a relationship between the subject and the camera

Location location location

Summer is a beautiful time of year and gives plenty of reasons to venture outdoors but, photo shoots on the beach are by far my favourite.

Remember, the beach is beautiful come rain or shine. As are you!

Saturday thoughts...

Weekend vibes got me thinking about fitness and physique portraiture and dropping a few softer throwback images.

Perhaps I should shoot some larger physiques, in a fine art style...

Model Portfolio

Shooting model portfolios is a large part of what I do whether you are a new or aspiring model or established model in need of a book update.

For aspiring models we aim to get a quality book up and running and a series of images ready for applying to agencies. These images will be natural 'polaroid' type images, beauty headshots, 3/4 images and full length.

For aspiring models we aim to get a good basic book, so will include natural 'Polaroid' type images, beauty headshots, 3/4 images and full length. If you exude confidence, we can also turn our hand to a brief video in addition to the 'Polaroid' images.

We also go over the basics of posing, and understandling light and angles. this will start building the knowledge and confidence for the studio setting. It can be daunting surrounded by lights and having a camera pointed at you, even if you are a confident person. But having an understanding as to why things are setup the way they are will make you more comfortable in working in any situation

Fight club

It's a been a while since I have put a post out there, been so busy!

So here is a bit of a catch up:

I recently had a fantastic shoot with Valencia; we wanted to shoot some fashion but in a gym setting. Hangar Human Performance Centre was the perfect choice for us. This place has the only full-size MMA octagon in the area and is such a beautiful space. Can't wait to shoot there again!
