born and raised in south haven, mi, technically. he wasn’t born there but he might as well been because he didn’t come out of his shell until he was adopted at twelve years old. 

his biological parents were junkies, leaving him to his own devices most of the time. they passed away due to an overdose situation and christian was put into the foster care system. 

he didn’t open up for a long time after his parent’s death, unsure of how to deal with it and feeling like he couldn’t trust anyone. when he was twelve years old, he was adopted by two moms in south haven, mi. carla and penelope had other adoptive children when he arrived, but age wise, he was the eldest. 

he eventually came out of his shell and became the super start of a man that his mom’s raised him to be. he loved football, was a womanizer on all fronts in his life with the charming smile and polite demeanor. he didn’t lead women on, typically telling them what he wanted up front. 

though this would come to bite him in the ass essentially when he moved to new york city. he thought he had it all figured out and that’s when he met alara osman. for the first time in his life, he was head over heels for someone and actually meant it.

he didn’t meet her for a while, having gone through his bachelors degree and then medical school. no, christian was thirty-one years old when he finally laid eyes on alara. he settled down quickly with her, knowing she was the one for him.  

alara played him like a fiddle, not that he actually knew that until it was too late and he was served with divorce papers. little did he know, she was taking money from his various accounts and putting them in an account for herself. by the time he found this out and was served with divorce papers, she was long gone. 

after the incident, he no longer trusted people to get close to him, afraid they were after him for his money. so, he began to downsize his life, instead of living the lavish lifestyle that he once had with his once wife. he threw himself more into work after this, not wanting to think about the foolish man he had once been. 

after a while, he found himself wanting to get out of new york city and applied for various jobs around the united states. he landed a job in a smaller place, fallbrook at their general hospital as a heart surgeon. 

christian has been in town one year and has moved back to his charming ways. he prefers to be upfront about his intentions, letting women know that he is not interested in anything serious. 

it has been a few years since he was nearly hung out to dry by alara, but still is trying to protect his heart and assests from others. he spends a lot of time at work, when he can, working as much overtime as he can, especially when feels himself going down a dark path. 

he is charming as ever and makes friends really easily. he doesn’t talk much about his past but in the last year, he is sure there are people that he has opened up to about the life he had once lived.

“I know.” She smiled warmly, resting her hand under her chin as he went on. She could always count on him to make her feel good about herself. “I feel awful for crying in public.” She dabbed her knuckles her eyes. It was just all so touching, what he’d done for Dominique in her toughest hour and how full circle it all came. “I understand the what ifs, but I’m sure you did all you could for him.” Christian was a great man, an even better doctor. “You fought for him, and for her. I know it’s tough.. feelings things for her and remembered you couldn’t save her son, but don’t let that keep you from true love. If it’s something she wants too, give it a try. See what happens.” It was a tough situation with haunting memories, but if something beautiful could come from the heartbreak Leanne would be the first to get behind it. They both deserved happiness.“We should probably head out and stop by the pet store. Your going to need a bed and a dog bowl.”

He hadn’t realized he would touch Leanne so much with his story and his own heart tightened in his chest at her tears. It made him want to tear up. “Don’t you feel awful for a second.” That was the last thing he wanted Leanne to feel in this moment. “The what ifs will haunt you, won’t they?” Even though he knew he did everything he could for Julien, there were the days that he wondered what if. Christian did his best to not let the thoughts consume him but he would be a liar if he said they didn’t exist at all. “I will give it a try,” he nodded his head, knowing if anyone could lead him in the right direction, it would be Leanne. He knew he’d never be able to replace Julien in Dom’s heart and he’d never want to. That was her first love. But, Christian knew that he loved her too. “Leave it to you to already have a list going for me,” he chuckled, shaking his head with a grin at Leanne.

“Good. Last thing I wanted to do was sleep in my car.” She smirked at him. She knew there was no scenario where her brother would let her sleep in a car. It was kinda why she didn’t secure a place before coming out here. She knew more than well Christian was going to let her stay with him for as long as she wanted. “Good to know.” She smirked at him. “Yeah it is. There was some, yeah. It kept coming and going like usual. Did it even snow here?”

“Don’t tell me you’ve been doing that,” his protective older brother self kicked in at the thought. He hoped that she was kidding about sleeping in her car. “I’d rather you call and let me pay for you to stay in a hotel or something.” Though he knew that wasn’t something anyone wanted to do. “Of course it did,” he chuckled at the thought before nodding his head. “Yeah, it did,” he told her, “believe it or not.” Christian smiled at her, “Who knows, maybe you’ll stick around long enough to see it.” He looked over at her, “You end up going to the Cherry Blossom Festival at all?” He questioned with the raise of her brow, “I tell you, you’ve never seen anything like Fallbrook’s events. Leanne, she does most of the planning, she’s a godsend.”

Dominique grinned and took a deep breath as she felt more settled now. “Of course I do.” She grinned at him before laughing. “Maybe. She was awfully jealous, though, I got to come spend time with you on my own.” She admitted to him and looked back into his eyes. “She really loves you, you know? You, her grandpa, and her uncle are her favorite men and she’s lucky to have you all. We both are.” She said softly and felt her heart begin to race again.

“Oh, was she now?” Christian couldn’t help but grin at the thought, “Next time she can come.” He told her. As Dom spoke of Ivey loving him, his heart stopped beating in his chest. “I’m honored,” he told her sincerely, placing a hand over his heart. In any other circumstance the gesture would have been playful and teasing but Christian was truly touched by her words. “I’m lucky to have you both in my life, Dom,” he truly was, “you’ve both been such a constant in my life, especially the last two years,” he slowly shook his head, “I can’t imagine my life without you know.”

She had learned the man wasn’t a heartbreaker, but still had to tease him. “I know, but still. Breaking hearts.” She tisked at him before her eyes widened. “Oh, really? Who are you seeing? What are they like? Tell me everything.” She said and leaned a little more on the malet in her hand. “Well, is there someone you’d like to be your princess? Maybe you could convince them or something.” She suggested to him. “I don’t doubt that.” Ashlyn playfully touched over her heart. “Awe, aren’t you the sweetest.”

“Yeah, I’ll be breaking hearts when I’m finally of the market, huh?” He didn’t know where his Dom would lead but he hoped that it was somewhere good. Since his arrival in Fallbrook, Christian had remained single. Though, not always, because he dabbled in his one night stands and short term flings. However, now that his feelings for Dom were on the table, he imagined things going a little differently now. “I mean, perhaps,” he chuckled, nodding his head, “but that’s for another time.” He teased her, wagging his finger. “I’m not spilling my secret crush just yet.” Christian told her, leaning for a slight bow, “You know I am.” His phone buzzed in his pocket and he looked down at the time as he took it out. “The Velvet Prince is required for duty,” he grinned at Ashlyn, “but I’ll make sure to look for you in the crowd, okay?”

She smiled at him as he planned it all right there and she nodded at his words. “Yeah that sounds perfect.” She said and couldn’t wait already, while she was still so nervous about it all. She didn’t want this to ruin them and she didn’t want to disappoint him. She just wanted it all to go well. “Just latex, but I think we’ll be safe.” She said and smiled at him. “So, it’s a date.”

“I’m glad it does,” Christian smiled at her, “no latex,” the surgeon chuckled softly, lifting a finger to tap the side of his temple. “Mental note taken but you’re right, I don’t think we will run into that problem.” Christian couldn’t take his eyes off of her as the words came from her lips. “A date,” he nodded his head in agreement. “yes, I will see you for our date,” a date that he was looking forward to for the first time in a long time.

“Stop it, you’ll make me blush.” She pushed on his shoulder and grinned. He really was far too kind. “Thank you for saying that. It means a lot.” She put her heart and soul into everything she did, it was nice to hear she was leaving her mark on this town in a positive light. “She’s a total sweetheart.” Leanne always found her to be pleasant company and hadn’t heard one negative comment about her at book club.“Really? That’s incredible.” She smiled, her eyes welling up with tears. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to get emotional.. Olivia was premature and very sick as a child, so I understand how she must have felt going through all that. Thank you for helping him.” She squeezed his arm and looked away to clean up her face. “What a love story. I really hope it works out for you two. I’m a bit believer in things happening for a reason. I think Julien will love telling that one to his friends one day.” Going back to the puppies she smiled and flipped through more photos. “How could you say maybe to those big eyes?? Why don’t you come over and see them this week??”

Christian laughed as she pushed on his shoulder. As if a man like himself could make the woman blush - now that would be something he wouldn’t ever let her live down, in the most teasing way he could think of. “And I mean it,” he nodded his head. Christian was a genuine man as often as he could flirt and charm his way in and out of any situation that he was in, Christian meant well. When he was putting his feelings on the table, they were always genuine. “She is,” he smiled before Leanne started to tear up. “Oh, no don’t you ever apologize,” he couldn’t imagine going through anything like that. “I have spent every day since wondering what I could have done to save him, especially after knowing Dominique more, you know?” Christian slowly shook his head, “I - as much as I have feelings for her, I always wonder if there had been something more I could have done.” Christian knew, that in retrospect, there wasn’t. That he had exhausted every option and just because Julien didn’t make it, it didn’t make it his fault. “I’d love to,” he nodded his head. Was Christian in the market for a puppy? Not particularly, but after looking at them, he didn’t think it would be such a bad idea. “I don’t think I’ll be resisting one.”

She was in awe of this. She had never in her life thought about going on a hot air balloon ride, but this was definitely amazing. She stared off at the town below her and nodded in agreement to his words. “I know. It’s amazing.” She said and looked up at him. “Yeah. I’m great.” Dominique assured him, but she was still holding on to him. Her grip had loosened up and now it was more like she was cuddling him than holding on out of fear. “I never thought about this, but it’s amazing, Christian.” She said and took a deep breath. She was feeling calmer and more herself as they were like this. She hadn’t felt like this in such a long time. She looked out again and smiled as she pointed in the distance. Look, you can kinda see my parents farm from here.”

“Good,” that was all that he wanted for the woman. If she were still afraid, he would call off the hot air balloon immediately, bringing them back to the ground. However, it seemed that they were continuing on. As Dominque held onto him still, though with a less fearful grip, he rested his arm around her. It was more natural and comfortable for him than he could have imagined. For the last several years, Christian had only spent moments with women that were fleeting. He had not intention of them growing into anything else, but with Dominique it was different. “I’m glad you think so,” he smiled at her, hoping that their first date would be one to remember. His gaze following her point, he felt his smile growing, “Well look at that,” he chuckled softly, “do you think Ivey is making us some jam?”

She still had blush to her cheeks and she tried calming her nerves down. She didn’t remember being this nervous when she was starting to date Julien, but there was a lot on her plate now. She was a single mother and she was ultimately scared of losing someone else the way she lost him. Plus, she worried that if this didn’t go well, she’d lose Christian as a friend and she didn’t want to face that either. And then there was the worry she wasn’t going to live up to his expectations and that he was going to see she wasn’t enough for him. She forced herself to push the thoughts away as they entered the balloon. “Good to know.” She said before she held her breath as he put his arm around her. The second they started moving, she wrapped her arms around him and looked down off the side. “Oh, my god.”

Christian’s heart skipped a beat as she wrapped her arms around him as the hot air balloon began to lift off the ground. Though he was nervous himself, for a lot of reasons, he didn’t let it show. His arms remained around her, holding her against him as Fallbrook grew smaller and smaller beneath them. “I can’t believe how beautiful this is,” he was talking both about the view and Dominque. “Are you doing okay?” The hot air balloon moved quickly into the sky, but it barely moved them as they stood in it. “I’ve actually never done this,” Christian admitted to her, “but I’ve always wanted to, so it seems fitting that we are doing it together.”

She rolled her eyes playfully. “You’re always so damn flirty. Is this why you’re single? You go out breaking hearts being all charming?” She said back and grinned. “Well, I think he hast to, doesn’t he?” Ashlyn grinned. “It definitely has been, but it’s been nice.” She raised an eyebrow before nodding. “You are? Wow. I’ll have to stop and take a look of you all dressed in your prince costume. You have a princess for it?” She asked him curiously. “I don’t doubt that at all.”

Christian laughed, shrugging his shoulders with a grin. “You know that I’m not a heartbreaker,” while he had been known to be charming, flirtatious, Christian was always upfront about his intentions because he didn’t want to break his own heart after being conned in a marriage he was fully invested in. “but who knows, I might not be single for much longer if things go well,” Christian hinted with a genuine smile on his lips as he thought of Dominique. “If I do, I haven’t heard who it is yet,” Christian told Ashlyn, “but she will be treated just like a princess regardless,” he said with a growing grin, “I’ll make sure to throw a few extra waves out just for you.”

She smiled at him. She loved the way he understood how being a mom came first and even how close he was with Ivey. It meant so much to her. “She’s actually staying with her grandmother tonight, so I’m all yours.” Dom said, blushing a little. “I mean, we don’t have to put a timer on this.” She corrected herself and swallowed before nodding quickly. “Yeah. I’m definitely ready.” She said and smiled at him while he said he got them snacks and introduced her to the balloon driver. “Well, it’s good to know we’re not about to get lost in the sky and end up in Oz.” She teased as she got in and said hello to the guy and looking back at Christian. “I’m going to apologize in advance if I hang onto you when we get started because while this looks like fun, I am a little nervous.”

“Oh, well,” Christian’s tongue slipped across his lips at the thought. He didn’t want to move too fast with her but he would be lying if he said he didn’t like the way that sounded to him. It had been a long while since Christian found himself interested in someone like he was with Dominique. He had plenty of dates, plenty of moments where he had someone sleep over after a night at the bar, but this was different for the man. “Don’t worry, I wouldn’t let that happen,” he smiled at her, allowing her to enter the hot air balloon basket before following behind her. “Or rather, he won’t let that happen.” Christian grinned at both the man in charge and Dominique as they were secured into the hot air balloon with the click of the door. “That’s alright by me,” Christian wouldn’t mind that in the slightest. “stand back a little,” he gestured to the woman, wrapping his arm around her waist without a moment’s thought as the owner of the hot air balloon fired up the burner.

“Depends on how you want to define good.” Antonio chuckled back at him. “I used to play some of them a lot as a kid, but as I got older I obviously didn’t anymore. Now, my son is the one going at them, but they appear to become harder and harder to beat.” He said with a small shrug. “What about yourself?” It had been years since he had last tested them out, but he might give it a go if Sammy got too frustrated. “Sure!” He grinned. “Looser needs to work the last shift at the hospital next weekend?” He added hald jokingly.

“I think they were always hard to beat,” Christian admitted with a chuckle, “but I think as a kid we didn’t care as much.” Though he didn’t know if that was the case. It was a long time since either of them had been a kid. “Ooh, that’s a hell of a bet,” Christian laughed, nodding his head in agreement. “yet, not one that I am going to turn down because we both know that I don’t spend much time outside the hospital anymore.” He teased once more, “I’m in.” He continued to grin at the other as he approached the cola toss game. Handing off tickets for the both of them, they were given the rings. “Here’s to that last shift next weekend.”

Hearing the words, Ashlyn looked up and grinned as she saw Christian. “Thank you, but working this definitely has me all sweaty and I doubt I’m that beautiful.” She said as she walked over to him and played with the mallet she had in her hands. “I am. I’ve been here mostly, but everything looks amazing. And Sunny won me another mermaid doll so it’s great.” She grinned at him. “How about you? Do anything fun?” She asked curiously before nodding. “This is my first, but it’s definitely impressive. They sure know how to throw events here.”

“It doesn’t show in the slightest,” he kept complimenting the woman with a smile on his face. “I bet your fiancé would beg to differ with that statement,” surely, the man thought she was beautiful no matter what she looked like. “That sounds like a hell of a day, if you ask me.” Christian had tried his hands at a few games but hadn’t won much of anything, though he figured his luck would have to change at some point, right? “Nothing too exciting,” he shrugged his shoulders, “Though you know I’m Velvet Prince for the floats?” He laughed, shaking his head, “It’s almost too fitting,” he could only imagine who put him up for that job. “They do,” he nodded his head, “There are plenty more to come.”

Dominique was disappointed they couldn’t do the date weeks ago and part of her was worried she’d find a way to cancel because of how nervous she was, but any time she tried, she told herself to stop. She knew she needed to do this for herself and the last thing she wanted to do was let Christian down. The man had done so much for her and it was clear he wanted this as much as she did and she couldn’t ruin that for them. And now, the day was finally here and she had spent maybe way too long trying to find the perfect outfit, but finally did. After dropping Ivey off with her parents, she went to meet Christian and she felt her heart beating against her chest the entire way to the hot air balloons. As she saw him, it increased and she smiled at him. “Sorry, Ivey was being a little clingy otherwise I would’ve been here sooner.” She said and blushed a little as he said she looked beautiful. “T-Thanks. You look handsome.” She grinned, thinking about how he always did.

“You never need to apologize for that,” Christian knew how much Dominique cared about Ivey and how much Ivey adored her mother. The man would never want to take away from that. “I will have you back to her in a timely manner,” while he wouldn’t rush the date with the woman, he would make sure that he didn’t take up all of her time. “Thank you,” he grinned at her, happy to accept the compliment from her. “Are you ready?” He gestured to the hot air balloon, “I’ve got snacks for us,” he told Dominique as he went to open the basket door for them to step into, “And this here is Louis, he is our guide for the afternoon.” He introduced the man that was in charge of the hot air balloon, “unfortunately I don’t have the license to get us up there myself,” he teased lightly to the brunette.

Christian and Dominique had to delay their date by a few weeks until the hot air balloons were available once again. As much as the man had wanted to go on the date a few weeks ago, he knew that this was for the better. Though, his nerves strongly disagreed. The man navigating got the hot air balloon ready with champagne and a small selection of fruits, cheese and chocolate were placed into a picnic basket within the basket of the hot air balloon. Christian rubbed his hands together nervously as he awaited Dominique’s arrival, knowing that he was a bit early himself as he waited for her. As he spotted her, his heart beat picked up, thumping wildly in his chest. This was actually happening. They were going on a date, their first date. Christian had been on plenty of dates since his divorce, since being conned but none had felt as special as the one he was going on with Dominique. “We are just about ready,” he said with a smile, “you look beautiful, by the way.” Which she always did.

He had been flirting with her in a playful way long enough that it was simply how he greeted her at this point without it meaning anything at all between the two of them. “Are you enjoying yourself?” He questioned the woman with a smile on his lips. “I’ve gone to this the last two years I’ve been in Fallbrook and every year,” he held up his hands in mock surrender, “I’m blown away.”
