What’s the Difference Between a Therapy Dog, Emotional Support Dog, and a Service Dog?

THERAPY DOG- This is a well-behaved dog (usually partnered with a handler and registered with an organization) who travels place to place to service the public. They most commonly visit schools, hospitals, and homes for the elderly. People pet them to feel better! Sometimes, therapy dogs help children to read. It is important to note that THERAPY dogs do NOT have public access rights. They have to ask permission wherever they go. Therapy dogs do great work for a lot of people in need.

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT DOG- An Emotional Support Dog (ESD) is usually a pet of someone who benefits from having an animal companion. Prescriptions for ESDs can be written by certified doctors. As long as the person demonstrates a need to have an animal and they have a note from a therapist or doctor, the animal is considered an ESD. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA, therefore Emotional Support Dogs do NOT have public access rights. However, they can accompany their handler into airplanes (provided the handler has a doctor’s note), and they can live in typically pet-free housing, free of charge (again, you need a doctor’s note for proof).

SERVICE DOG- This is a well-behaved dog partnered with a DISABLED handler. To be a legal service dog, the dog has to be able to perform TASKS that assist their disabled handler and help them mitigate their disabilities. They can help with things like PTSD, autism spectrum, wheelchair-bound people, anxiety, depression, blindness, deafness, allergies, and more. Service dogs are legally classified as “medical equipment” and therefore, paired with their disabled partner, can be taken anywhere that the general public is allowed to go. In addition, you should note that the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) specifies that service dogs do NOT have to wear any kind of vest, nor is there any “official” certification. The ADA simply states that if the handler is disabled, and the dog performs any task to help with that specific disability, then they are a legitimate team! There are different kinds of service dogs: Hearing dogs, Seeing Eye Dogs, Psychiatric service dogs, Mobility assistance dogs, and more! “Pokémon Go will be coming to Android and Apple iOS devices this year, and the mobile game will involve elements like Pokémon catching, trainer levels, and gym management. Depending on where people are in the real world, new Pokémon and battling opportunities will become available.

People playing Pokémon Go will find Pokémon living in certain habitats. Various environments are taken into account, as well as landmarks. Once a person sees a Pokémon on [their] phone’s screen, they’ll need to tap the right place to throw a Poké Ball. Catching as many of the same kind of Pokémon is encouraged, as you evolve them by collecting multiples of the same character. (As an example, catching multiple Bulbasaur will make one of them evolve into Ivysaur.) Catching as many as possible also gives you experience. You level up as a Trainer through encountering and exploring Pokémon, and reaching higher levels gives access to better Poké Balls and items.

A release date has not yet been set for Pokémon Go or Pokémon Go Plus beyond 2016. A field test will be held in Japan. The game will be free, but will offer in-app purchases.”
