it is deeply funny, humorous, that decades of media influence could convince people, Americans especially, that Christianity and Judaism are basically the same, or at least in some weird way, spiritually, working together, on the same team. I mean people are willing to overlook or forget that they are, at the very least, two distinct religions. lots of American Christians feel closer to Jews than they do to Catholics. and much closer than they would feel to Hindus or Buddhists, but I feel a Christian-Hindu alliance would fundamentally make more sense, "you have your beliefs, I have mine, let's tolerate each other." there's no crossover at all, I mean obviously there's theological differences but there's no explicit rejection of Hinduism in the fundamentals of Christianty or vice versa.
Jews are not Christians because they actively rejected the main guy, the main force of Christianity. like that's the entire point of the religion, Christ. and they don't have a neutral opinion, they actively disagree with the Christian interpretation, the entire basis of Christianity. and we're supposed to say Islam and Christianity are incompatible. their view of Christ is different but respectful, they believe he existed, they believe he is an extremely important prophet, they disagree about the son of God thing, but basically you see how it would be a more comfortable alliance. so why are Christian Americans supposed to hate Muslims? why do they hate Muslims?
I don't think the problem is some kneejerk intolerance, even racism, Jews are a different religion, different culture, different race, they look different and act differently than the average American Christian. and I mean, a fifth or eighth or however many you like generation Jew is 90% of the time more different to the average American than a second generation Arab Muslim. they act differently. you meet a Muslim guy, if he's not a nutjob fundamentalist, most aren't, he's like a normal person you can talk to and get along with. like he just happens to be Muslim but participates in society in a normal way. what's the problem?
and beyond this what is the anti-Islam propaganda, that they're terrorists? this is relatively new, in the lifetime of a huge amount of people, you'd think that two thousand years of antisemitism would hold over a bit better. and anyways, in this case antisemitism beats Islamaphobia, there was no Islamic terrorism at all before the creation of Israel. and there wouldn't be if Israel never existed.
I mean fundamentally, without going further into some ideological interpretation, why did this happen, what does it mean, etc. you have to agree it's really very odd. it's very, very strange.
