Money Magazine shoot...

Shoot with Dr. Ann...

I had a great time photographing Dr. Ann Kulze this past December for the January 2014 issue of Charleston Magazine! She is a busy woman with a lot of energy and I'm glad she was able to fit me into her schedule for an afternoon of portraits and laughs. I highly recommend checking out her website and all the great information she has to offer about health, wellness and nutrition.

We tried a number of different setups and luckily 3 of 5 were used (sometimes a rarity in these situations). I love the portrait that was chosen for the opening spread, her beautiful dog was so patient and hung out as long as we needed!

I love working with a great creative team and as always I had this when I recently worked with The Local Palate magazine on their Dec/Jan issue. We shot 2 stories: one on a New Year's Eve table setting that was done by Jacqueline Lawrence of Inventive Environments and another at McCrady's restaurant with Chef Daniel Heinze on Champagne and Caviar pairings. I gotta say my job can come with some nice perks!

Jacqueline's table setting was fantastic! Love the color's she chose to mix together and all the details were perfect. Then there is the smoke in the dish from the McCrady's shoot. That was a lot of fun but a bit of a daunting task. We shot that dish more times than I can remember trying to get it just right. In the end though it turned out looking great!

Welcome to the new blog layout. I decided it was time for a facelift to this blog which would nicely compliment my website and it’s clean design.

To start this all off, here is a recent feature I shot for Charleston Magazine on desserts for the December 2013 issue. I had a great time working with them on this shoot. It was 1 and 1/2 days of beautiful and tasty desserts, lots of laughs and some hard decisions. But it all turned out wonderfully! I threw a couple of my favorite images from the shoot in at the end.

Food Arts: June 2013 issue...

I had the pleasure of working with Food Arts magazine again this past spring to photograph Chef Katie Button of Curate restaurant in Asheville, NC for the June 2013 feature story. The issue is now out so I can share the tearsheets and some extras that are my fav's (the following post). If you are ever in Asheville I highly recommend eating at Curate!!! They have some incredible spanish tapas food with impeccable service. Enjoy the photos!

Cold morning of Clamming....

For an editorial assignment on a cold winter's morning this year, I woke up very early and headed down to the local dock to the intercoastal waterway in Charleston and met up with a couple guys who's job title should be "work there a**'s off to get people fresh clams and oysters daily". I wasn't sure exactly what would be in store for myself that morning, but I did know that it was a beautiful sunny day and I was going to do my best not to get mud on either the camera equipment or myself (unfortunately neither scenario worked out quite that well). With that aside we set out to there property and got to work. I was seriously impressed with the hard work and ingenuity they put into themselves and the clams/oysters beds. It's a hard grueling job that isn't easy on the body and definitely not easy when it' below   45 degrees (thankfully we had sun that day). So to put it quaintly, the next time you have clams or oysters think about   the hard dedicated work exerted to get them to the plate in front of you!

Flower Editorial...

I don't shoot flower arrangements or still life's on a regular basis, but when I do I really enjoy the change of pace. I recently shot some beautiful arrangements done by Charleston based floral designer Heather Barrie of Gathering Events for the Spring 2013 issue of Flower Magazine at the Historic Charleston City Jail which is now housing The American College of the Building Arts. The shoot landed on a great day with perfect weather (gotta love Charleston    for that) and the typically spooky city jail was a different place in the warm daylight that contained a plethora of interesting and unique backgrounds that were a great contrast for these arrangements.

Coastal Living - Southport, NC...

Southport, NC really is one of those quaint little dreamtowns. The people are friendly, the mornings are quiet and the  air is crisp. It was a lot of fun photographing and experiencing all of that along with a lot of other great things in this town (there are too many to list) for the February 2013 issue of Coastal Living. If you happen to be in that part of NC or you need a quiet and historic getaway, I highly recommend looking into this town.

Dress designer...

I had the pleasure of photographing the lovely Whitney Deal this past summer, yes yes I know this post is coming a tad bit late but it was a fun shoot and I had to share the photos. Whitney is a wonderful dress designer based in North Carolina. She’s not your ordinary designer though, she and her husband Dustin are a couple of great photographers, you can see them and their work here. We made some fun photos while having some good photography conversation.

Getting my sealegs...

I had a pretty fun start to this past weekend. A friend of mine owns a 32' sailboat and I was invited to hitch along for a Friday afternoon sail around Charleston harbor. I've never been on a sailboat before and it was a great experience,    with the exception of almost taking a big blow to the head from the main sail boom when we took our first turn. But a nice cold beverage helped me forget the close call. All in all I'm definitely looking forward to my next sailing    adventure. Enjoy the snapshots!

Budget Travel - Beaufort, NC...

I love getting to experience small towns, especially in the south. Recently Budget Travel sent me to the small town of Beaufort, NC for a few days. It was a great little coastal town with a lot of maritime history. These are some of my  favorites from the shoot.

Muscadine vineyard shoot...

This past summer on a hot and humid day I had the opportunity to shoot some muscadine vineyards near the coast in South Carolina. Had a ton of fun and learned all about the uses of muscadine grapes. I gotta say they are pretty tasty right off the vine!
