Update on my Walmart’s fish
A while back (probably about a month ago) I was at Walmart and there were no betta. Today I went back and there were no fish at all! They’re remodeling the pet section and the signs said something about “playtime” with pictures of puppies on them? Idk Walmart is very disorienting for me so I couldn’t process them correctly. I’m both excited and worried for whatever ends up there. Hopefully it’s nothing too bad.
Hey I don’t think I’ve shown you this beautiful baby yet! She’s either 6 years old or 3 depending on who you ask. Her name is Biscuit and she’s an ex-breeder. I have reason to believe that she was neglected and abused but she is still the sweetest darn thing I’ve ever met. I don’t think she’s had any prior training but she’s now a service dog in training! She’s picking up so fast. We’ve got sit, down, stand, and take it/give with a wallet pretty well learned. Next step is stay and take it/give with other objects and when it gets warmer we’ll start really working on those leash skills. I wasn’t intending to get a third dog but I’m so glad she came into my life ❤️

Fish update: I finally got around to fixing the 10 gallon and Sal is enjoying his new space 😊 Because his tank is by the window, I put a snail in there to help with the inevitable algae. The other two snails are now in the 75 because the other betta tanks don’t get enough light to have much algae at all. Little Bit is still in a 5g because his fins are too heavy for him to really use much more space than that and Riccardo is still in his 10g hex. I also rescaped the bettas during the last water change. I really like how Little Bit’s turned out with all the flowers 🌸 Isn’t it convenient that my house came with built in aquarium stands??!? 😂😂
I wish my house had built in aquarium stands. That always seems to be the problem when I want to set up a new tank😂
Is having your goldfish and corydoras together a temporary thing? Corys like a lot warming water than goldfish can handle for long periods of time! Also, if they’re small enough to fit in your goldfish’s mouth then he might try and eat them!
Cory catfish have spines in their fins that deploy when they’re stressed!! Both fish would likely die in the event of a goldfish trying to eat one!
I appreciate the concern but as I said, the goldfish literally do not give a shit. They’ve all been in there for years and there’s never been an attempt let alone a death. And even if there was the corries are way faster than the goldfish and there are plenty of hiding places that the goldfish can’t get to. I’m not going to change things now when there’s not a problem anyway.

Where are all the betta?
I was at Walmart yesterday and stopped to check out the fishies, as I always do, and there was not a single betta to be found! Did they finally get their shit together and stop selling them or was this just specific to my store?
Update #2 Sorry it’s been so long. Still no internet and I don’t know when I’ll be able to afford it. But big news! These two nerds are inside dogs now!! At moms house they had to stay outside or confined to one room but now they have free reign. This is them after bath time 😂
If I am swapping two bettas’ tanks do I need to wash everything in them first?
The parameters are the same, they’ve both been in the tanks the same amount of time, I use the same water and conditioners, both appear healthy, etc. I just don’t want to risk getting them sick.

Hello friends! Long time no see! I’ve been busy (and lacking internet) because... I moved! I’m finally on my own and can do whatever I want with my animals. I am beyond excited for what’s to come. For now just a quick update on Bentley. I put him in these tubs because I don’t have a safe section of floor anymore and I don’t really trust him not to want to scent the new place. It’s a bit smaller but he’s content I think. And cute as ever ❤️
Don’t be ashamed of your algae
I see a lotta people that feel bad about the algae in their tanks and stuff but honestly? It’s not a big deal, if you look at some videos or images of the fish in the wild there’s so much awful algae and they’re fine, they’re happy, algae is normal. Don’t feel bad about your tank having algae and don’t feel like you’re a bad fish keeper just because of it, if your fish are happy and healthy that’s the important thing. Don’t measure your tank against people who post a single image of a meticulously clean and maintained tank with zero algae because I promise you it only looks that good for the shot and probably will have algae a week later. Accept single celled plants in your life.
Cyanobacteria do not interact.
I finally embraced this and let me tell you it is wonderful. The fish enjoy it much more than a meticulously clean space and it’s much less stress on me. I just wipe down the front panel every now and then so I can still see them but that’s about it. It is a bit of a struggle to keep the filter unclogged though :/
