Doctors and teachers and family and friends keep telling me to ‘listen to your body’ but they don’t seem to know how stupid that statement is. My body is a screaming baby that doesn’t start its godawful shrieking until I’ve already done too much. It doesn’t fucking tell me ‘please don’t do that’ it just tells me ‘fuck you for doing that now you’re gonna puke as revenge’ after I did the thing! I don’t think they realise my body isn’t actually speaking to me or communicating with me like a person

You go to the doctors to get test results…

Reminder

“Just do your best” does not mean:

Give every last ounce of energy and effort you have leaving you burnt out afterwards.

Push yourself to the point your mental or physical health is suffering.

It means:

Put in as much effort as you can without sacrificing other areas too significantly.

An example:

A long distance runner cannot sprint the whole way round. Their best running is not going flat out because they will get too tired before the finish line.

Similarly if that runner breaks an ankle their best might be managing to walk a short distance on crutches. They could go faster and further before but that doesn’t mean they aren’t doing their best now and it doesn’t mean they won’t ever be able to go further again, but they must respect themselves enough to not force themselves to over do it.

The runner could train for more hours in a day but then they wouldn’t have time to sleep enough or ensure their muscles were recovering suitably between sessions so actually resting in addition to training is the best they can do.

Doing your best is looking after yourself as best you can and then achieving what you can for the task. Your health is not something to sacrifice ♡

Starting a new med!

So my doc office finally called in my new medication (only took a month and a half 😑). I'm starting Actemra injections on the 6th, and I'll be doing them every 2 weeks.

I've been on auto injections before but never a normal injection with a needle and such. Any tips on taking this medication? And any tips for my fiance, whose going to be giving me the injections and supporting me through any aftermath?

Something I’ve never seen mentioned before that I wanna address. We in the spoonie community talk a lot about how insensitive and rude and ableist comments come from outsiders but sometimes they come from us directed at ourselves.

“all you do is let people down”

“you don’t even try to stay awake”

“if you cancel because you’re tired and then stay up, you obviously weren’t that tired”

Etc etc.

We can have a chronic illness for so long and our brains still feed us this shit. It doesn’t matter that we know we’re doing enough, and that it’s not us who’s unreliable or that there is a huge difference between fatigued and sleepy or any of it.

It comes from a lot of places I think: internalised ableism, comments from others that our brain starts to believe in some level, and societal pressure to constantly be doing more more more. And idk the point of this post, just I guess to not feel alone in having my mind attack me when I’m listening to my body and giving it rest.

I'm back!

So I've been gone for a looooooong time. Things have been pretty rough going but I think I've got life back on track.

I've got a new doc and a new diagnosis. Fibromyalgia. Lost my insurance, then got it back, went through a few shitty jobs but the new one is working out great!

Found out I've been allergic to an ingredient that's present in most of the meds I've been taking but we found one that should work and that I'm not allergic to.

So my goal is to get back to posting and interacting again. It'll be slow and sporadic at first, I've been having a lot of Brain Fog issues recently and it's messing with my life hard core.

Hopefully this will all work out and it'll hopefully help with some of my stress and anxiety. Reminding myself, that unfortunately, there's a bunch of other people out here dealing with the same problems and making it through!

hey fellas last night i took a medication which is more or less the anxiety equivalent of a horse tranquilizer & essentially enterred the fifth dimension of sleepwalking in which i awoke but enterred a dissociative fit so strong i was really confused why my loving girlfriend was not my good friend and fellow viking bjorn, who i had to bring some furs to. also i might’ve cried about this. don’t remember

Because it has come to my attention that apparently a lot of people weren’t taught proper tipping etiquette so here’s what I was taught.

Always tip at least 20%.

If you got something in a special or had a coupon, you tip on the price you would have payed, not the price you did pay.

At breakfast always tip 25%. Breakfast is never as expensive as dinner and your waitress shouldn’t be shortchanged because you got $5 eggs instead of a $10 sandwich.

If you keep a table for longer than an hour, add 10% for every hour you keep the table. It’s great that you’re catching up with a friend you haven’t seen in ten years, but you’re fucking over the waitress by staying for four hours. Every hour you’re there you’re costing her money. Make it worth her time.

We all know to tip 20%, but as someone who works as a cook and often talks to the waiters, no one seems to know about the rest. This is what my dad taught me and this is what I’ll teach my children. Be respectful to your waiters. Don’t undertip. They need to eat too.
