And they were roommates
Writing Prompt #9
âYou were born with a gift!â
âYou think I donât know that?â
âWith the way youâre actingââ
âIâm just a kid!â
âYouâreââ
âDay after day after day, youâ you so-called heroes keep knocking at my door, bothering my parents, trying to recruit me to defeat some villain or international threat! Do you think I have time for that?! I HAVE ALGEBRA HOMEWORK!â
âYou have the ability to protect this world, and youâre worried about algebra?!â
âOh, excuse me, Mx. Math Genius, not everyone can understand numbers!â
âBold of you to assume I understand them either. I donât know, just get a tutorââ
âHeroes disguise themselves as tutors, and villains keep kidnapping them.â
Writing Prompt #8
âWait, hold on, youâre both related?!â
âYes.â
âAnd youâre sworn enemies?â
âYes.â
âSo you two are sworn enemies... because [Hero] ate the last cookie???â
âThey knew damn well I wanted that cookie!â
âI offered to buy you another one!â
âThen maybe you should have bought one for yourself instead of stealing mine!â
âI canât believe the fate of our city rests on the shoulders of such children.â
Writing Prompt #7
âWhere have you been?â [Sibling] clasped [Protagonist] by the shoulders, unsure if a hug would be accepted after... everything. [Protagonist] didnât lean into their touch, a glazed look on their face. âI thought... We all though youââ
â[Antagonist] had me.â The answer was soft, barely indistinguishable. [Sibling] let out a sharp breath. âThey had me for... I donât know how long itâs been. Iââ
âWeâre here for you. Whatever you need.â
[Protagonist] stood from the couch, blanket falling from their shoulders as they crossed the threshold of the sitting room. They paused by the fireplace, hand grazing the mantlepiece before plucking one of the small family photographs displayed. [Sibling] followed after them, gazing down at the picture as well. It was a picture taken of them as kids with their [Parent] on some past holiday.
âI... I think we need to talk to [Parent].â
Writing Prompt #6
Scenario: The sidekick is a god in disguise.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
âOh, you didnât think I cared did you?â Their laughter was piercing, joyful in its glee of cruelty. [Hero] felt their breath catch in their throat, helpless against the chains that held them to the wall. âIt was a game! You knew that, didnât you?â
âWhat is the meaning of this?!â [Villain] growled out from beside [Hero]. They could hardly believe that theyâd been bested by a child who had yet to even earn [Villain]âs respect and recognition. Their gaze snapped towards [Hero], masking the fear and worry in their voice. âHas your sidekick lost it? What did you do?â
âI didnâtââ [Hero] swallowed, heartache and confusion muddling their mind. âI didnât do anything! [Sidekick], please, tell me whatâs wrong. We can fix it. I caââ
âIâm bored, [Hero]. Unless you two find some way to be more entertaining, then I think itâs high time the world resets, donât you?â [Sidekick] giggled, twirling in front of both of them in childish joy. âArenât you two bored? Hm... maybe in the next reset, you two wonât have powers. Maybe youâll be ordinary. Thatâll be fun!â
[Sidekick]âs eyes glowed a different hue. âBye now! See you in the new world!â

=============================================================
âWhy are you like this?â
âItâs part of my charm.â
âDidnât realize you had any.â She couldnât help but snap, her hunger and exhaustion catching up to her. Adam continued onwards, uncaring towards the gnarly tree branches that seemed to reach for them and claw at their skin. Valeria huffed, gripping the bottom of her dress as she trudged after him. âWhat if your father finds out? I donât want to get into any trouble! Adamâ Adam, stop!â
âWould you rather stay in the palace then?â He didnât even need to look at her to know the answer. âHe wonât notice, Val. Heâs too concerned with my brother.â
âIs it true then? Heâll be sending Carswell off to Aeterdin?â She finally matched his pace, Adamâs slowing down at the mention of his brother. âI didnât look... I donât know if he planned to go through with it... Are you... Are you alright?â
âHe plans to send Cesara too.â His frown deepened, and Valeria watched as he kicked at a loose piece of earth. Underneath the shadows of the trees, she could barely see the concealed tears in his eyes. She fidgeted at the sudden display of emotion, unused to dealing with othersâ sadness, much less her own. She doesnât even remember the last time she shed a tear. âI donât understand at all.â
âPerhaps the future will hold the answer.â
âDo you really believe that?â
â... I donât know.â
Adam rolled his eyes, but laughed all the same.
âItâs... I donât know which future is true.â
âDoes it end happily?â
âAdamââ The shout of a familiar voice behind them made them freeze. Her eyes widened but Adam only grinned, reaching for her hand before running deeper into the forest. She shrieked, feeling the roots pull at the bottom of her skirt, but she soon found herself laughing. She didnât know how long they ran before they both fell into a giggling heap at the center of a large clearing, hidden amongst the tangled roots and the shadows of the leaves of a... she didnât know what the treeâs name was, but it was larger than any she had ever seen.
âAs usual, Rader comes to ruin our fun.â Adam scoffed. âHonestlyââ
A shadow fell over them.
âOh no... you shouldnât be here!â
Writing Prompt #5
âCome here often?â
âOh, sure, I usually schedule bank robbery dates after I do my nightly skincare routine.â [Hero] scoffed, but nevertheless found a smile creeping onto their face. âWay to ruin my beauty sleep.â
âPlease, like you need it.â [Villain] threw the last bag into the portal, running a hand through their grimy hair. âI, on the other hand...â
âIâll be the judge of that...â [Hero] stepped closer, enough that they both could feel each otherâs breath on the otherâs cheek. âWhat do you say, darling? Take off the mask?â
âPerhaps...â With that, [Villain] moved so that their lips were nearly touching. Electricity crackled in the air between them, as it always did in their little games, whenever they get enough to touch. âBut didnât anyone tell you? Nothing comes for free...â
âOh? And how much would I have to pay to see you once and for all?â
[Villain] grinned, then pushed [Hero] away.
âCatch me, love.â
Then with that, [Villain] disappeared into the portal, giving a cute little wave before the vortex disappeared with a pop of purple smoke.
[Hero] laughed to themself. Guess sleep would have to wait after all...

Alicia had expected quite the trouble when the scouts had brought back the Princess of Veropest.Â
It was a fatal mistake, one that she had planned to rectify before the sun could dip beyond the horizon, before the shadowhounds with their gnashing teeth and hellish red eyes followed the orders of their masterâs wrath.
However, the moment her eyes caught sight of the young princess, she knew she couldnât take her back. The scouts had conveyed as much when they pushed the child closer to Alicia, their gazes begging her.
Princess Eres Tenebris of Veropest hadnât even looked at her with fear, instead, she had gazed up at Alicia as though she was a possible playmate. It plucked at her heartstrings. With a father such as hers, Princess Eres would not have had much opportunity to wander the outside of the castle, much less befriend a child (nobility or not).
âWe couldnât leave her.â A scout had whispered.
âHeâll come for her soon.â With that, a shiver ran down their spines, and even the princess herself shivered as fresh tears gathered in her eyes. Alicia reached down, wiping away a stray tear with her thumb. âTell me, child, do you wish to come with us? Weâll have to move quick if we wish to cross into the next countryâs borders. He might not follow us there.â
The princess was nodding before Alicia could finish asking, the little girl reaching up to grasp at Aliciaâs tattered black cloak. She reached down, arms wrapping around the child before pulling her up so that the girlâs head was resting against her shoulder. Alicia stifled a laugh as the child reached up, fingers brushing the sides of the porcelain silver mask that she wore.Â
âIf you stay with us, perhaps weâll get you your own mask.â
The princess grinned, a sweet smile that Alicia knew sheâd never forget.

And she never forgot, even as the cold shadows enveloped her. Even as the piercing dark eyes of the King of Veropest stared down at her with malice.
Writing Prompt #4
âThis must be a mistake...â
âI assure you, dear one, that it is not.â
âNo. No. No. You donât understand, youâve got the wrong person.â
âOh? How so?â
âI have a life! I donât even look like one of you! I...â They took a deep breath. âIâm not fae. Youâve got the wrong person.â
âOh, dear, well you see I am rarely wrong. I could recognize my own kind without the aid of sight.â
âWell... youâre wrong this time!â
The fae grinned, teeth glinting with silver moonlight. âIs that so, little changeling?â
Writing Prompt #3
Scenario: A villain with plant powers and a hero with rot powers.
âYou know theyâre only using you. Once Iâm dealt with, theyâll lock you away until they need you again.â
[Hero] was aware of that. In a way, theyâve always known. Ever since the Hero League showed up at their door, begging them to get rid of [Villain], theyâve known. After all, [Hero] had been forced into exile since they found out about their powers, stating that it would be better for them to... be out of the city. Far away from anyone. It didnât matter if they had complete control of their powers. The Hero League didnât trust them.
âAnd me? Iâll go to prison, yes. But a little rehabilitation and community service the heroes would welcome me back with open arms. They might send me to this charming little villages. Use my powers to help out the local agriculture.â [Villain] giggled, flower petal dancing through their fingertips and cascading down their hair. âThereâs always a use for someone like me.â
[Hero] looks at them, and hate surges within them before shriveling up into a ball of sadness. Even defeated, [Villain] is the epitome of grace and beauty. They wouldnât be surprised if all it takes is a promise to do good and only good for the Hero League to let them go. [Villain] catches the look in [Heroâs] eyes, and grins, the manacles around their wrists decorated in silver vines. [Villainâs] powers were muted. All they could really do now was summon petals and small vines. [Villain] tilted their head upwards, and let out a cheery laugh. âYouâre not the first so-called âheroâ to stop mbe. And there will be more just like you. Such a shame really. Rot. What an incredibly rare gift to have.â
Plant powers were incredibly rare to. And thatâs what made [Hero] sick with envy. It wasnât fair. They may have caught the villain, but staring down at that smug grin, [Hero] had to wonder if they even won the battle at all.
Writing Prompt #2
Scenario: Villain and Hero know each other in their civilian identities. Villain has known for a long time who Hero is.
âDid you think this would work out? Please, Iâve had enough with this charade.â
[Hero] swallowed, the sickly bitter taste of hot chocolate fading from their tongue.
âW-what do you mean?â
[Villain] sighed, seating down at the seat across from [Hero], a sad smile playing on their lips.
âArchenemy or not, I love you⊠so I hope you like sleeping pills instead of sugar in your drink.â
Writing Prompt #1
Scenario: Hero is a shapeshifter and they have decided to go undercover as the villainâs pet.
âThereâs a rat among the goons. Honestly, you miss their pay by one day, that damned heroâs fault, and suddenly youâre the bad guy.âÂ
[Villain] huffed, landing facedown onto the bed, hands reaching through the sheets until they felt soft whiskers against their fingers. They gently waited for the rat to climb onto their hand, holding the rodent in front of them, affection in their gaze. âAt least someoneâs on my side, right Mr. Squeaky?â
[Hero] felt sweat at the bottom of their paws, but they only cuddled closer to [Villainâs] open palm. They nervously squeaked in agreement.
