he has always known santa wasn't real. not even for a good reason he just like. knew. being told about it he was just like "you can't be fr rn wdym there's a weird old guy that flies around the world IN ONE NIGHT and is nice JUST BECAUSE? not neutral."
he's aroace and obviously hasn't reciprocated any of it but he pulls a lot of ppl surprisingly. like, my son is PRETTY. he be pulling bitches and he doesnt even know it bc he cant tell when other ppl have a crush on him.

if adam and elijah are his biological dads that makes josh russian and italian and i think he can speak both languages. bilingual josh real.
(this one is evil sydney but shhhh it had to be mentioned) evil sydney used to HATE diagonal and eve in their younger years. she looks up to hellidiah so he thought she was trying to steal his man but then found out that eve was lwk a lesbian and now they're chill.
josh never dresses up for Halloween. he looks up the most neutral (bland) candy, buys a lot of it, and then sits outside his house with a bowl of it and tells people he's dressed as being neutral. margarine is also here because people like to pet her not for any other reason bc he's neutral trust....(he doesn't want to leave her alone)
josh should probably have clear glasses but he doesn't. since he only sees in grayscale, his yellowish glasses just make things slightly darker, rather than do anything. he should probably get clear ones but he thinks this pair is very neutral
Josh is actually neutralingual. He has neutral knowledge of language, meaning he always knows the precise words he needs to neutrally communicate with any given person at any time. It matters not what language those words come from, he will just know exactly what must be said.

i love (not as much as sideways and josh) him he's neat
and he can guess what he's getting for christmas based off of the parent the gift is signed by (he knows their handwriting differences for the gifts from santa), the weight, what it sounds like when you shake it, what it feels like from the outside, and by examining the list of what he wants for christmas that he gave his dads.
HOWEVER the side effect of such intellect is that his mystical autism powers dont let him tell the difference between sarcasm and seriousness

down and steve mii was bored and lonely and sad and i felt bad for him so i decided he should talk to someone new so i let him meet josh and sideways and guess what.
Think I finally figured out what my personal voice headcanon for Sideways and Josh is. Alan Red from Smiling Friends. He has a very neutral tone of voice, and also I just relaly like Alan
A young Sideways and Josh sat under the old willow tree farthest from the playground. Here, it was quiet and calm—matching his neutrality quite well.
He looked up into the branches, and sitting there were two birds: a bluejay and a cardinal. They flew away when they noticed him staring.
Josh looked down again at his lunch box. It was beige, the most neutral color in his most neutral opinion. He opened it, and inside was ice. Just ice.
He crunched on some ice for a moment while thinking about all of the things he was neutral about. That is, until his neutrality was disrupted by a particularly loud screech from the playground that brought his attention back to it.
Josh watched the other kids for a while, in their very unneutral antics. A few of them watched back. This would happen a lot: children would stare, point, and talk, but he didn’t know why. There was nothing interesting about him to speak of. He was only neutral.
He didn't see a reason for them to stare. Maybe he'd let a friend look at him, but he never really had friends, only acquaintances. Nobody was really ever neutral enough, and nobody understood his neutrality so he didn't ever try to make any friends. Of course, he didn't actively avoid them either, as he was neutral.
Eventually, the teachers would call the students in. Josh—having finished his ice—closed his lunch box and followed the other kids inside.
In the classroom, the other kids began to ignore him again, as they put lunch boxes in cubbies, and hung up jackets on hooks. He was less important to them than focusing on their schoolwork and Josh was very neutral about it. Pinkie Fly had to be told by the teacher to focus but besides that everything was neutral for Sideways and Josh yet again.
The entire day by far has been very neutral for Josh—it always has been and always will be.
By the end of the school day there is nothing to think about, really, except for a surprise that Josh was promised.
Shrugging on his backpack, Josh grabbed his lunch box. He stood by the classroom door with all the other children. The surprise was getting to him—as much as he wanted to remain neutral, he was not and it was not very him. Hence why Josh mildly dislikes surprises. Nobody would ever come to know this, of course, but it was still true, unfortunately.
When the bell rang and Josh was met outside by only one of his fathers, he was confused. Usually both of them were here, but this time it was only Adam. This probably had to do with the "surprise". Josh was neutrally bothered by his schedule change.
Sideways and Josh took his father's hand out of habit, and they began to walk home.
"Dad."
Up and Adam looked down at his son.
"Yes?"
"Where is Papa." Josh asked—though he always spoke more in a statement than a question.
"He's at home, with your birthday surprise." Adam told him.
"Why can't he come to pick me up with you." They stopped at the crosswalk.
"Because he's with your surprise." Adam repeated. Noting the cars stopping, they crossed the road and continued walking.
"That is not a reason. It would be okay on it's own." Josh neutrally complained, opening and closing his free hand repeatedly in neutral frustration.
"Don't worry, I'm sure you'll love it," Adam reassured.
"I will be neutral." Josh kicked a rock neutrally.
When they got home at last, Josh was not particularly excited but also not not excited, so he was feeling very neutral—as he should.
He kicked off his shoes at the door and hung up his backpack, like a normal afternoon. Except, it was not a normal afternoon.
"Papa." Josh turned to Elijah, who was now standing near Adam in the hallway. "I thought you were with my surprise. Where is it." He said bluntly.
Adam and Elijah glanced at each other. A look that, like most, Josh struggled to understand the meaning of.
"Go check your room." Elijah urged.
Josh—neutrally suspicious—made his way down the hall to his room. The door creaked open beneath his touch, and for a moment he didn't notice it because everything in his room was nearly the same color, but there was something on his bed. He stepped closer into his room and he realized what it was.
A small, beige kitten was lying on his bed.
When he came closer, she opened her eyes, only for Josh to notice that she had four, just like him. She looked at him with a very neutral expression, and it made Josh feel very not neutral.
He looked back at his fathers.
"Do you like her?" Adam asked.
Josh looked back at the kitten and picked her up. She looked at him with four brown eyes and a very neutral expression.
"I am neutral about her." Josh said without taking his eyes off of the small, fuzzy creature.
Regardless of his words, Sideways and Josh's face showed the first—and last— twitch of a smile that anybody would see.

he is neutral about the number 0 (it has no negative version and its not necessarily postive either. plus, it's not even a real number its a placeholder which is kinda neutral tbh) and if he has to pick a number for any reason thats always what he picks
Josh just has like. really bad memory. for no reason.
he listens to mincraft. not like, the soundtrack, just the song itself. Mincraft by C418.
he says punctuation out loud because his tone is so dead it confuses people. ex: "where did they go, question mark." and when typing his dialouge he almost always has a period at the end even if its a question. sometimes he'll say period, and more so but also not as common he'll say comma but he does say question mark all the time. he very rarely says exclamation point because he doesnt feel that way bc hes neutral
i already said josh knows sign language but i think he would've learned it from elijah. Elijah used to work in a hospital, and so i would think that he's worked with some patients who (for any reason) were non-verbal/mute and he would know sign language for that, and he would've taught josh. (bonus: he also taught josh's sisters because like everything else about him it bothered them and they wanted to know what he was saying.)

I think Eden (SydJeddie adopted daughter), Gabriel (SydLijah child-of-the-corn), and Sideways And Josh (ElijAdam neutral son) should have a playdate. They are wildly different ages (13, 9, and ?? respectively) but I think it would work well enough. They bond over having dysfunctional families 🥰

it'll never happen but if josh ever lost his special interest in neutralness and/or was emotionally capable of being emotionally capable he would have such a breakdown of so many years of emotions he didnt feel even the psych ward wouldnt want to deal with his bs
i feel like he wouldve grown up with ghibli movies and this is partly biased because so did I but in my defense your honour ghibli movies are very whimsical and adam at least (i dont think elijah would care either way or maybe he likes them idk) is nothing if not whimsical and he would make josh watch them with him

(this is adam but its ok its the josh family related) adam is giving mom vibes. like lwk a soccer mom except none of his kids play soccer bc josh is neutral and the life goal of all his sisters is to be haters of his neutrality so like. 10/10 would wear a shirt that says #mamabear while carrying 15 pounds of bullshit in a tote bag and holding the hand of a little diagonal and eve whos also holding the hand of a little other side and hsoj and adams pushing this stroller with the twins (sideways and josh + josh and sideways) as babies ofc and then elijahs just like. also there. like. "hey ya im also a father" but he doesnt have main character energy like adam does
