We all know Al-An is immortal. But once Robin dies, not long after a bird hes never seen begins to follow him everywhere. He dosent pay it any mind at first. But when its the only one by his side when hes submerged in grief he grows fond of it. Once it dies hes a little sad but he knew it would happen.

And only a few months later, in another planet, a new bird of a diferent species shows up. Just as stubborn and clingy as the last one.

This happens many more times over ceveral decades.

He feels so stupid when he figures it out.

So i decided to watch a video of Subnautica below zero. I didn't think I would come out of shipping the alien Alan with Robin. If I had a nickle for everytime i've shipped a inhuman creature with a human while they lived inside said human body in a symbiotic relationship. I would have 2 nickles which isn't a lot but its weird it happened twice.

Something Wounding lore related that I think about a lot, that I never touched on or will ever expound upon, is that if the Network still exists for Al-An to rejoin, he will become a complete stranger to Robin.

Al-An is the name of one component of the Network that was pulled out of it and forced to be an individual for a thousand years. Al-An grew to find his sense of self as an individual thanks to Robin's influence, with the "Network" he developed with her. If he were to trade that in to be re-enveloped in the one with his people, he would lose his individuality, and become more like that version of himself that he mentioned as being unrecognizable in Chapter 6.

I dunno. I think it would be a great bad ending, if Al-An were to reconnect with his people and completely lose any and all of the attachments he'd formed with Robin. Robin realizing that she'd been able to help him get home and find family again, but to entirely lose him in the process.

Robin not being down with immortality when Al-An offers it is a common trope in fanfiction. And generally Al-Ans reaction is to simply think shes being irrational for no reason, but have we ever thought that to an architect, wanting to die in any capacity would be a sign of really fucking severe mental illness? Like imagine Al-An not just being upset, but extreamly worried that his has girl turbo depression and he never noticed. What would architect mental health improvement look like? What kind of whack shit would he force her to do to not want to die in 80 years?

imagine being so suppressed by your sister's death and the tough situation in general that you cry all your eyes out and then under the margaret's not-so-willing supervision turn into a harsh hardcore survivor who befriends a whole ass alien which is so interested in your strange human nature that basically becomes your helper-killing machine

just some thoughts which i can't call a complete au (I also pretty much doubt the fact that my thoughts are somehow original)

the amazing digital circus is a show about empathy and what it does to you if you go too long without a support system so the show starts with sympathizing with Pomni (the most empathetic person, easy), ep2 is empathizing with an NPC in a game (no flaws), ep3 is empathizing with a man who has dementia, ep4 is empathizing with someone who annoys you when they're unmasking, ep5 is asking you to empathize with a rich white woman and so on....

so it all works up to the empathy boss - a bush era edgelord millenial trans girl who thinks she's Max from Sam & Max and is inherently unworthy of love

and some people failed the empathy test
