since being announced for idol project, azumi has taken it upon herself to get to know the other girls. besides, her strategy is to appear cute, bubbly on stage but make selective friends. tomiâs a given; both come from the same company and she knows theyâll debut together regardless so she already has an ally. soojung poses a threat, however. both of them proclaim to be good dancers and azumi doesnât want too much of a competition. she arranged to meet the other trainee out at a small, closed off cafe. standing outside she checks her phone, reading the netizens reactions to the announced girls.
soojung wouldnât praise herself on how little time she actually spent on her phone. she could, though. the device, by now, was something she used most for melon and youtube, earplugs always on--kakao talk is for breaks or when sheâs sleepless, and even then she just makes a terrible job to keep up with it. maybe because of this bad habit, it takes her days to finally get to see the unknown numberâs message and she spends the rest of the day suffering over it.
why would azumi want to talk to her, she wonders? the japanese had one of the best interviews, and if how sweet she sounded wasnât enough, she had great looks and the few teasers released by mnet showed a pretty face wasnât all she had either. with moves this powerful and smooth, and a charisma like that, soojung just knows the comparisons will rise. maybe thatâs what she wanted to discuss?
thereâs not much she could do if she stayed in this bus any longer, so with a hop and her fingers curled tight around her phone, the dark haired steps on the cafeâs sidewalk. it doesnât take her long to notice the other, quiet against a wall. âhey,â she greets, anxiety hidden beneath layers of practice, black and a smile. âwoa, have you started getting professional care already? your hair looks super soft.â

itâs still pretty unreal how quick this has all happened: soojung being cut from heirs, said group debuting (and being successful at it) and idol project--the dark haired trainee is still shocked radioactive even considered joining a show like this, with its (ill minded, soojung would say in faint hopes to protect the companyâs reputation) favoritism towards boy groups rather than their girls. not that sheâd say such rumors are wrong or right -- she did sit through seven years without one single girl group debuting, while three boy groups did -- but the girl is no fool to complain about an opportunity like this.
thereâs enough moments in which she could,though. when she was told sheâd be pit against twenty-four other girls -- because within her own agency for years wasnât enough -- and to battle for the audienceâs liking--and the fact that some of these girls was actually up for the job. and of course, there was the diet. never once in nearly seven years she had been told she needed to cut weight--itâs barely been a week and she has no idea how people put up with it for years.
the latest thing is the performance for episode one. that was expected, of course, but if you think she assumed sheâd be doing a song like i am the best--oh boy. sheâs naive, isnât she? as if itâs not very like radioactive to go out with a song like that, she mused to herself, pursing her lips as she looks at reignâs hit song again. it wasnât a bad song, by all means!! in fact, soojung often found herself swinging to it -- evaluation days are the worst, you know -- but it was just...cheesy.
âi mean, did i not expect it?â she answers when questioned about the choice of the song, camera on even when the cordi is fixing her hair--itâs the first time (as an idol) she got the full treat: make up, hair, clothes...everything is in such a scale it makes the do yourself trainee evaluation seem tiny and unimportant, only feeding the fire in her stomach. âweâve been practicing a lot, so we should do well, mhmm.â
and she does feel the practice shows off on the stage. her palms are burning up, and soojung feels eyes on her -- azumi, daring; nara, proud; cameras, attentive; judges, impassive -- but she doesnât slip and fall, and her voice doesnât break. her own eyes change when sheâs performing, and the bam ratatata tatatatataâs donât even feel cringe worthy as they did in the earlier practices. ginny delivers her rap charismatically, bora, who had promised to fall on her face, not once stumbled (visibly) in her heels and even dahee, the one soojung knows the least, doesnât disappoint.
when they leave the stage, she is smiling--truthful, loud giggling, teeth in full display.Â

As much as he enjoyed the younger oneâs company, sometimes she had enjoyed teasing him a bit too much. Though that didnât mean he didnât tease her back. He would tease around with her when he got the chance or opportunity to. Â Plus, they got along really well so no one feelingâs were hurt.
Often Donghae was picked as Soojungâs partner for idol and trainee evaluations and he didnât mind it at all honestly. It helped the two of them get along with each other more and get to know one another more. Plus, it was fun getting to work with Soojung as they both got to see the skills they had and put their skills together to create a dance choreography together or whatever it was. Plus, they worked well together considering that Soojung was Daejungâs younger sister. Everyone in Legacy got along with both Soojung and even his younger brother, Daewon.
The moment he was pushed aside Donghae did the same and a smile appeared. âHey, I just want to get there before everyone takes all the machines and everything.â He knew that he wouldnât get bothered and with Soojung with him they might rethink of bothering him and her. Though, seeing how Soojung wanted to be a tough and nicer version of his younger brother had him laughing. Just imagining it was quite funny. âYouâll be a mini Daewon? Hm, I donât mind but donât let Daewon hear you. He might get jealous seeing thereâs a mini version of him running around now.â
she accepts his excuse -- so it sounds to her ears -- with a playful roll of her eyes, but then, the idol wasnât all wrong. this might be radioactiveâs gym, but thereâs at least hundreds of idols, trainees, trainers and staff who would use the room and even waking up early might not be an advantage too high.
her worries quickly abandon her at the breathy sound of the boyâs laugh, and soojung scoffs. âhe better be! i mean, iâm obviously cuter so heâd be losing,â she continues with a nod, allowing the boost having someone laugh at (or with, all the same) her to lift up her spirits. âiâd be a better partner too! my voice is very soothing, you know. itâs gonna make you hurry up and finish your work in a minute to run away from it.â the younger self-disses like a pro, steps light when she goes down the short stairs to leave the company ahead of him.

Heejin was sitting outside the company on one of the wooden chairs. He was zoned out. Lots of things were running through the leaderâs head. Anyone who knew him would immediately be able to tell that there was something different about the normally energetic rapper. There was a soft breeze that blew onto his face and reached under his beanie.
the roof was a great escape--actually, a very known by trainees and idols who wanted to pig out on their diets without the prying eyes of managers or the lenses of a camera. soojung had never felt the need to use the safety of said escape, that until she was put on top of a scale and told, for the first time in almost seven years, that she should cut on any fat. so it was only logical of her to finally join the âiâm running upstairs because this jokbal is calling meâ club.
however, the solace wasnât entirely empty, and she could tell who was itâs occupant by the moment she saw his bleached hair. quietly, soojung approached the idol, literally walking on the tip of her toes to not ruin the surprise. âoppa, what you doooing,â she shrieks, before tossing her arms around his shoulders to make sure he wouldnât fall if too scared.
