âFor your information,â he began, still crying, but slight anger welling up. âeven if Lily and I werenât dating, I would be trying to get her out. So donât act like Iâm only acting like this because itâs Lily. You know fucking well I would do this for you or Conrad or Simon if anything happened to you guys.â
He then got up, looking straight into their eyes, alllllll the way down there. âAnd I would love for you to come, but are you at your best state right now? If you can sober up in the next ten minutes, then we can go. Alright?â

Ciara crossed their arms, staring him down as he cried. âActually, I donât. You live your entire life centered around one thing and one girl Jay, and i we arenât your quidditch buddies or your girl everyone else gets to play second fiddle. How often do we talk do you think? When you arenât at practice youâre in class, and when youâre not in class youâre talking to Lily. Take it from someone who knows what its like - basing everything you are off of one thing isnât healthy, and assuming some relationship you have as a teenager is going to last forever isnât either. Iâll help you, obviously i will, but Jay, you canât keep doing this.â They said, frowning at him. âWhat are the chances you actually find her? Shes been gone for weeks man, and the ministry and all their man power hasnât found her yet, how do you expect to? This isnât some fairy tale or some happy story being written, this is life. Theres no true love, theres no happy ever after, theres no spell to lead you to her just because you love her. Magic may be real but it has limitsâ Privately, Ciara thought it was insane they were having to be the reasonable one here, but what could you do.Â
Ash groaned as Ciara pulled away. Just like them to get her so worked up so easily. Itâs like they just knew how to push all of the buttons that Ash loved having pushed. That kiss left her salivating, and them pulling away left her whimpering, so she gave in and pulled them back by their hips, hands tangling in their hair as they pressed another hard kiss to their lips.Â
Once she had the strength to break the kiss, she rested her head back against the wall behind her, pulling the otherâs head to her neck as she caught her breath. âYouâre the worst, and youâve won the battle.â When she thought she could, she pulled their face back to hers, letting her lips trail heatedly along their jaw while her free hand found the edge of their shirt and tugged it up as far as she could to touch bare skin. âWeâre gonna get in trouble, again, Ciara. And itâs all your fault for being irresistible.âÂ
Ciara smirked as Ash pulled them back in, kissing the other girl back just as hard, hands falling to Ashs hips and hauling the girl close. Once Ash pulled away, Ciara smirked as their head was guided to her neck. Really, it was like Ash was just waiting for this to happen. Which, they supposed she was, but drugs and booze had been in the plan at some point. Still, they took the opportunity presented to them, laying quick bites and kisses across Ashs neck as the girl struggled to form sentences. Once she had, Ciara laughed, pulling away. âWhat can I say dear, you started itâ They responded. They kissed Ash eagerly, sliding their own hands up and under her shirt. âHardly my fault Ash, I was perfectly willing to continue on to the roomâ They teased.Â
âThe buildup to the climax, as it were.â Smirking a bit, she leaned over to rub her nose against their neck, laughing as she inhaled the smell of pot, a smell that actually made her mouth water a bit. She jumped a bit at the ghosting hand, but laughed loudly, shaking her head. âYouâre about as subtle as a trainwreck, Ciara. I love it. This is why youâre one of my closest friends.â It was true, too, Ciara was one of those people Ash actually enjoyed talking to outside of the haze and the bedroom. Luckily, they were able to talk without too much fuss or deep meaningful bullshit, and Ash appreciated it. âIf by Noah, you mean Noah Greene, I have stories about that one. All those years swinging so hard at balls really did wonders for his upper body strength.â She started to laugh again, but it was cut off by Ciaraâs bold movement, and Ash would be the first to admit that she loved it when someone else took such control. Without hesitation, she gripped them around the waist and pulled them flush against her, smirking. âLast time we did that, we both ended up with detention for a week, Ciara.â With a soft chuckle, she leaned in and pressed a soft, slow kiss to their lips, lingering just long enough before pulling back again. âI, for one, donât want another week cleaning trophies.â
Ciara just rolled their eyes at Ashs joke, though a slight laugh escaped them. âYou have the worst sense of humor when youâre sober, has anyone ever told you that?â They teased, letting Ash rub her nose agains their neck. It was rare that Ciara smelled of something other than pot or booze anyways. They smirked, giving an unconcerned shrug. âI can be subtle if I wanted to be. I just rarely see the need for itâ They responded easily. Ciara had been well versed in the art of sneaking around, and still was, but no one could ever call the gryffindor afraid to show off at random times, and with random people. They smirked at her comment about Noah. âOh trust me, you donât have to tell me.  Greene and I have our own arrangement after all. And those arms do come in very usefulâ They teased. Once they had Ash against the wall, they arched an eyebrow teasingly, letting Ash pull them against her. Letting her kiss them, they waited for her to pull away before blinking innocently. âWell, that one wasnât my fault. Youâre the one who said that classroom wasnât in useâ They responded, before smirking and leaning forwards, glad that Ash was a semi reasonable hight. That is, nearly as short as Ciara was. They kissed her again, taking advantage of the moment to slide their hands over her sides, grinding into Ash briefly before pulling away. âBut if you insist on waiting until we get to the roomâ They mock sighed, stepping away.Â
Ash almost let out a small whimper at the nibble, almost but managed to resist the temptation. shooting Ciara a playful glare. âAlready getting me all worked up and we havenât even gotten high yet.â She laughed a little, pulling Ciara against her easily and slipping her arm around the others waist, much preferring to be close to them like this. âPerhaps youâre right, but Iâve always had standards. And I wouldnât have said no to Ben if I hadnât been starving at the time. Even I have to eat.â As she walked, she shrugged a bit. âHeâs kinda cute, though, in a goofy way.â Laughing again, Ash leaned over to give a light bite to Ciaraâs shoulder. âYouâre a tease, by the way.âÂ
Ciara just grinned at Ashs words, completely unrepentant. âWhat can I say, its always more fun to have a bit of anticipation, donât you think?â They teased, letting Ash wrap an arm around their waist. Deciding to go the completely unsubtle route, they slid their own arm around Ash, one had drifting across her ass purposefully. âAh yes, hunger, the greatest cockblocker of allâ They teased, before making a face. âIf you like idiocy and dependency issues rolled up into one big self absorbled package, I supposeâ They replied, before tilting their head. âWait. I forget, was I describing Noah or Ben? So hard to tellâ They joked. When Ash bit them, Ciara shuddered slightly, before looking over and smirking, taking a few quick steps and shifting to back Ash up against the wall. âCareful darling, or we might not make it to the room at allâ
Ash smirked a bit, twisting so that she was standing in front of them and wrapping her arms around their waist to tug them closer. âOf course I would never say no to you. But then, lets be honest, who have I said no to in the past two years? But you are still very special.â With a cheeky grin, she leaned in to lightly kiss the other on the cheek, lingering for just a second longer than necessary before pulling back again. âI feel like we could get more⊠comfortable in the room of requirement. Lets go there.â With a little tug of their hand, Ash pulled them off again.
Ciara laughed at Ashâs words, letting the girl twist around to stand in front of them, stepping towards her when she tugged on their waist. âWell, I imagine itâs more than Lan, or perhaps Pine, if you just want to count the ones with dicksâ They mused, half teasing. âAnd a little birdy told me you talked to Ben Bones and didnât end up in bed with him. Perhaps youâre developing standards.â They teased, laughing slightly. âHow horrifying. Besides, Iâm only special for my booze, donât lieâ Ciara joked, letting Ash kiss their cheek, before grinning wickedly and waiting until she moved away slightly before pressing their mouth against her neck in a move that was half kiss, hald light bite. Pulling away just as quickly, Ciara gave a grin full of false innocence, head tilted. âRoom it is thenâ They replied, allowing Ash to lead the way.Â
âI swear, these man angst tears.â Ash said with a laugh, nuzzling Ciaraâs shoulder a bit. She couldnât handle it, personaly, and she was glad that she wasnât as close to the boys as Ciara was. She really only knew them through Ciara, so that helped her through the man pain. She only got bits and pieces, and of course whatever Ciara told her about it.Â
Ash actually fell for the look for a minute, but was extremely relieved when they agreed. âYou canât tease me like that, Ciara. I have needs. Donât make me hold out on you.â Not that she would. Anyone who knew Ash knew that was true. âHonestly, Iâd be fine with some weed and and enough alcohol to blind me. The question is, where to go? Astronomy tower? Room of Requirement? Your bedroom?âÂ
Ciara giggled as Ash actually fell for it, even though Ciara pulled that shit at least half the time they met up. âOh please buinneĂĄn, you know Iâd never really deny you. And besides, you wouldnât say no to this face, would you?â They asked teasingly, batting their eyelashes at Ash playfully. They nodded at her words, humming.  âWell, you know I can always supply thatâ They replied, before considering the options. âNot back to the tower, Skylers been on some book binge and wonât shut up.â The muttered, mostly to themself. âAstronomy tower or room of requirement would be the best choices at this hourâ They added, looking over at Ash. âAny preference today?â

Jay couldnât actually believe his ears. Had he really been shutting everyone out? He honestly couldnât remember. He shook his head, turning around and sitting on the couch with his head in his hands. âIâm sorry,â he whispered just before his shoulders started to shake from the oncoming sobs. He tried to hold back, but he hadnât really emoted since Lily was taken, so weeks and weeks of build up came flooding out of him.
Ciara had every right to hate him right now. So did Conrad. Fuck, he hated himself right now.
Oh hell fucking no. Ciara had not spent weeks watching their friends throw angst around just to collapse when confronted. If they were sober, perhaps they would have let it go, but drunk Ciara was an entirely different animal. âOh, shut upâ They snapped, rolling their eyes. âYou think yer the only one sufferin, is tha it? Guess what Canon, ye fucked up. And fucked up big time. Sure, ye go around all tough and tall but ye put so much of yerself into a feckin relationship, and where does it get ye? Crying in the fecking common room at fuck o clock in the morning cause somehow you forgot to be a functional human being without throwing yourself into romance. Weâre all fucking worried bout Lily ye daft leathcheann, but jesus christ, pull yer head out of your ass.â They snapped, getting more worked up as they talked. They growled and threw a box of tissues at him, not mad enough to let him get snot over their favorite couch. â âEreâs a fun new idea for ye to try, stand up, go talk ta someone, realize that ye can have people outside romantic relationships. What, does the one with actual fucking dependency issues have to teach you about healthy relationships?â They muttered, arms crossed and staring down at Jay, waiting for him to respond. Fucking idiots with their relationships, the lot of them.Â

Ash shrugged a little, slipping her arm around Ciaraâs waist as they walked. âYouâve got some explaining to do XiÇo mÄo, going off and getting not sober without me. I could have used quite a bit of not being sober, especially after having to deal with your besties being miserable and practically sobbing into their toast.â Rolling her eyes a little, Ash sighed. She wouldnât say she wasnât sad about the disappearance of her housemate, but she hadnât been obsessively in love with the girl either, so that probably helped.Â
Sighing again, Ash lightly tugged at the hem of Ciaraâs shirt, giving them a little bump with her hip. âWanna skip dinner and go forget our troubles? Iâm feeling a bit dry and honestly, Iâd like to get on your level right about now.â Laughing a bit, she rested her head on their shoulder, giving her best pout. âPretty please? I can pay you with any kind of sexual favors you want.âÂ
Ciara laughed as Ash tugged at their shirt, rolling their eyes at the younger student and slinging an arm around her. âSorry stor, you know how much I hate my toast getting soggy from man angst tearsâ They said, barely repentant. Lily being gone sucked, but Ciara wasnât exactly the most empathetic person alive. Either Lily was dead, in which case nothing would happen, or she was alive, and probably being used for something that would continue to keep her alive. Nothing to do but wait and listen to Conrads man pain either way.Â
They appeared to consider rejecting her offer, more teasing than anything else. They both knew Ciara would end up fucking around with Ash by the end of the night, in more than one way. âAw, you know I could never say no to my cliant is fearr leat, no matter how you choose to payâ They joked, before streching slightly. âName your poison and where you want to go buinneĂĄn
axhbarker:
Ash smirked when she heard the voice that replied to her, and she turned to see Ciara on the ground. âYouâre such a waif, Ciara. I mean, I know Iâm fit, but did you really just fall on your arse?â Holding out a hand, she gave them a wink. It took a moment for their words to sink in, and she opened her mouth in mock shock, doing her best to appear offended. She knew for a fact that she was doing a horrible job at it.Â
âXiĂ nzĂ i zĂ i zhĂšlÇ tÄ«ng, xiÇo mÄo, I am the picture of perfect and just innocence. Iâve not done a single bad thing in my entire life.â Ash couldnât keep that lie going without completely losing it in a fit of giggles. âI am not scary, rude, and just where the hell have you been, anyway? I was looking for you this morning.âÂ
Ciara rolled their eyes, accepting Ashs help up. âYou can hardly blame me buinneĂĄn, not all of us like staying so down to earthâ Ciara teased, words half sarcastic. They laughed at Ashs mock offended look, bumping their hip against their housemates. â ar ndĂłigh who would ever go about doubting an aingeal like yourself?â they teased, joining in the laughter.Â
They shrugged at her question, not entirely remembering themself. âOh you know. Didnât feel like joining in another game of âwho here is the saddest humanâ at breakfast, then didnât feel like going to classes, then didnât feel like staying soberâ Ciara recounted. âAfter that, I couldnât tell you.âThey shrugged, unconcerned. They rarely actually cared about what they did when high, or about remembering about it. Time was for people who actually gave a shit
Ash spent the majority of her time in one of three places, the library, the great hall, or her dorm. If anyone ever hoped to find the young Gryffindor, those three places were their best bet. Since Lily had disappeared, presumably from stress of something, Ash had raised her hackles. Of course, being someones roommate did not automatically make you their friend, but Ash liked to thin that she and Lily got along quite well. She also couldnât shake the feeling that there was something more underhanded at play, but Ash also liked to jump to the worst possible conclusion.Â
As the young Gryffindor made her way to the Great Hall, readying herself for a much needed meal, she found herself letting her mind wander, effectively tuning out the general chatter around her until she found herself quite literally flat on her arse, having walked right into a solid mass of human. âOi, maybe watch where youâre going, mate.â Ash snapped as she stood. Because of course it couldnât have been her fault for not paying attention. âHead up in the clouds like that and youâre gonna run some poor innocent into the ground.â As she spoke, she brushed herself off, not bothering to spare the other a glance.Â
Generally, Ciara didnât choose to interact much with the world around them. People were usually either buying from them, yelling at them, or getting high or laid with them. Beyond that, they really didnât care what people did around them. Of course, the whole thing with Lily was an exception to that, as Ciara had actually liked her, and both Jay and Conrad were being idiot boys with their idiot man angst. Idiots.Â
And so they had done exactly what they always did, which was sit in some half abandoned corner of the castle and get high as a kite. They had just ben coming back from one of these abandoned corners, unconcerned with the world around them, when they walked directly into someone. As slight as Ciara was, they went sprawling, and was opening their mouth to rip someone apart when the other person spoke. âNot so sure anyone could call you innocent buinneĂĄnâ They responded, grinning at Ash. âDonâ know if youâve noticed, but most daoine seem to think youâre scaryâ They teased.Â
âIt was just a jokeâŠâ Lucy mumbled, looking down slightly.  She looked back up at the other person hearing that they were still talking to her.  She watched Ciara put the glass down, before realizing there was a question in the air.  âIs it that obvious?â Lucy admitted, not even trying to hide it.  She reached out and took the bottle from them and took a drink from it.  âSo how does it work?â
Ciara rolled their eyes, not in the mood for jokes, funny or otherwise. They eyes the girl, still not able to place her. A smirk flashed across their face at the first question. âPlease, youâre about as innocent as a brand new hufflepuff, taking their first steps around the castleâ They responded, smiling a bit at the mental image. First years. So much fun to scare. They tilted their head at Lucys second question, half wondering if she was trying to make another joke. How did she not know how things worked by now? âYou tell me what you want, I tell you what I want, and then we come to an agreement that makes us both happyâ They responded, not going into specifics. Best to play coy in case the girl thought of reporting her
Done
He listened to every word before shaking his head and chuckling. âI wouldâve asked you to come along, but considering youâre drunk off your arse right now, I donât think thatâs the best idea. What are you doing coming in this late anyway? Oh wait, let me guess, just got done fucking a random fifth year. And Conrad probably doesnât want to break a precious school rule anyway, so why bother asking?â

Yes, he knew he could use some help, but if he went alone, less people would have to get hurt or killed to save Lily. He couldnât risk losing Ciara and Conrad on top of it all. Plus, maybe if he pissed Ciara off enough, theyâd leave him alone and he could get started.
Ciara reared back at his words, hurt flashing across their face before they snarled, standing up, not caring about the way they swayed. âOh hell no, ye donâ git ta go thereâ They snarled, baring their teeth at Jay in a snarl. âDonâ ye dare act like Oiâm a terrible person here. So what if oi was fucking some other kid, at least then someone is paying attention to anything oiâm doingâ They spat, eyes blazing. âJeasus Christ Jay, whens the last time ye even asked me how oi doinâ?â They half shouted, glaring at him. âYouâve done nothing but sit in yerr guilt  withouâ noticing that the people around ye are falling apart too. You donâ get to jist check out for weeks and then decide that ye get to talk about my life, and ye donâ get to shame me for the ways I try ta find some shred of humanity or worth in me, not when ye and Conrad have been the only ones ta see that beforeâ They hissed, trying to ignore the tears starting to make tracks across their cheeks. âAnd fuck right off with that Conrad and school rules thing. Ye know whats against the rules? Me fuckinâ getting high and wasted and spreading that shit around school, but Conrads never fuckinâ once rolled on me, so fuck off. Ye know as god damn well as I do that boy is loyal to the bone, and you bet your ass that applies to Lily. She ainât jist yer girl, shes peoples friend you fuckin tit. Geâ off yer high fucking horse and shove yer savior complex Jay, youâve never once been alone until ye pushed us away. Fuck you Jay Cannon, fuck you and every fuckinâ thing you stand for tĂș mac selfish de soith fuath liom tĂșâ

âOof!â was the sound that escaped Jayâs lips when Ciara tackled him. He looked up at them and rolled his eyes. âWas that really necessary?â he asked, lightly pushing them off and getting up. He shook his head at them as the overwhelming smell of booze hit his nostrils.Â
He shook his head and looked at them. âLook, Iâm more prepared this time, and I canât take it anymore. Sheâs out there, Ciara. Iâm sick of waiting for no one to do nothing. Donât try to stop me again, alright?â

Ciara scowled as Jay pushed them off, hitting the floor with a thump and pausing as their brain had to think about processing that. âOi, no pushinâ meâ They ordered, before scowling at him and climbing back to their (very unsteady) feet. âAnd yea, amadĂĄn, itâs necessary.â They told him, looking affronted.Â
They crossed their arms as he spoke, rolling their eyes. No amount of booze could ever stop them from being a bitch after all. âAlrighâ fine then.â They replied, taking a wobbly step to the side. âGo on, git yerself and yer girl killed then. Jist donâ expect me ta look yer dads in the eyes at yer funeral, bastaird santachâ They spat, glaring at him. âYe ainât got half an idea a wot it takes ta survive on the streets, or how ta find Lily. But yer right, try ta be the big man, rush off without takinâ someone along. Ye know wot happens ta kids like you when they do that Jay? Kids like me find em dead in the srĂĄid a week later. But sure, donâ ask fir help or any o that, jist do wha ye want. Not like I know what Iâm doingâ They said, voice falling into what could only be described as a pout by the end. âNot like me o Conrad are scared fir Lily. Not like I know âbout running away or know people that could help. But yer right, yer the only one as wants to help fir sureâ they grumbled, sitting on the arm of the couch and wrapping their arms around themself.Â
Iris grimaced at the thought of drinking all night. âWell, my question still stands. Thereâs gotta be a reason why youâre still drinking from last night,â she pointed out. âYou donât have to tell me, but sometimes itâs nice to get things off your chest,â she offered. Iris knew first hand how destructive it was to keep whatâs on your mind from getting out into the air.
Ciara paused, tilting their head as they considered the other student, one finger tapping against the glass neck absentmindedly. They couldnât say it would be terrible to actually tell someone what was going on. âIf you ever mention this to anyone else, Iâm going to throw you off the astronomy towerâ They warned, before sighing. âMy best friend has a giant crush on a girl who is taken and is probably in danger, so heâs been throwing his man pain everywhere, and my other friend is dating this girl and canât do anything not related to her, so basically all I have to deal with my own issues is drugs and booze and hookups. Hence drinking all nightâ

Lily had been gone for weeks. Despite every professor telling him that they were doing their best to get her back, there seemed to be no progress. When he had tried to leave Hogwarts to go looking for her, he had gotten caught and brought back. Six times.
Everyone had convinced him recently to stay and stop trying to leave. Despite this, he still never thought about anything other than her. Who took her? Why? If they hurt one hair on her headâŠ
His marks were terrible, worse than ever before. He wasnât his best at quidditch, and he hadnât cooked since he found out Lily left.Â
This was it. He was leaving this time. His only birthday present was going to be finding Lily. Alive.
He had finished packing, better this time, and was sneaking out at around half three in the morning. He was just looking at the fire, just⊠taking in the heat for what he thought might be the last time.
âHappy birthday, Jay,â he whispered to himself ironically before turning and heading towards the portrait.
Conrad was alternating between pretending he was fine and trying to hide his glaringly obvious man pain and  freaking out on first years, Jay had tried to leave five or six times already and been brought back, and Ciara was ready to climb the walls. With their main sense of stability gone everytime Conrad screamed about the rules, and Jay a walking reminder that Ciara wasnât as free as they appeared to be, and Leah doing god knows what, the gryffindor was ready to fucking scream. Or, at least tonight, get shitfaced and fuck a random boy before stumbling back to the common room. Who needed to make good choices when their world was crumbling? Not Ciara.Â
Opening the portrait, they paused, swaying in the entryway and squinting at the shape of a person standing there. It took a moment to recognize him, but when they did, Ciara frowned, straightening up to all of their 5âČ2 hight. Capping the bottle they were holding, they held up one hand in the universal sign for âwait a minuteâ before putting the bottle down gently to the side. When they stood again, they nodded to themself before drunkenly throwing themself at him. Surprisingly enough, they actually rammed into him, resulting in a tangle of limbs as they both hit the ground. Ciara didnât actually have a plan after tackling him, so they ended up perched on his torso, swaying slightly as they blinked at him. âYea shouldnâ be leavinâ aris, they'll jist brin' yer back, agus ba mhaith liom a chailleann tĂșâ They slurred, accent thick and slipping into irish twice
Iris really had just been wandering around. She had been bored and needed some fresh air and had stumbled across someone with their back against the castle wall. âWhy would I-â she began to ask, confused as to why she would yell at the other student, then cut herself off when she saw the wine. âOh, no, Iâm not here to yell at you,â she said softly. Even if she were in the position to yell at the other student, she had been in an extremely non-confrontational mood lately. âWhatâs on your mind thatâs got you drinking so early in the day?â
Ciara gave the other girl a look, trying to remember if she had ever actually approached them before. Not that Ciara remembered, but their memory was full of holes, so who knew.  âTechnically, Iâm not day drinking. It doesnât count if youâre still drinking from the night beforeâ They replied, taking another drink before grimacing at the taste again. âAlthough I may consider stopping to get something that doesnât taste like cheap bugsprayâ They added, making a face at the bottle.Â
