"We can do anything in this book. Anything! Who knows what will happen next?!"
Kirkman more or less summarizing the main appeal of Void Rivals for me. While the odd man out of the Energon Universe's various titles, what with being a new IP and all, it's become the playground of the deep cuts, obscure characters, and the controversial at time of release elements of both G.I. Joe and Transformers.
They made me feel for Skuxxoid. They made the Quintessons threatening again. They're expanding on Cobra-La. They brought back Rom!
Speaking of which, I really hope that they're going to release Rom #1 for the rest of us who don't go in for blind bags.
First chapter of the Gundam Wing X Code Geass manga is out, though still untranslated. Premise is easy enough to follow though.
Events of Gundam Wing happen as per canon. Except suddenly in the aftermath Britannia rises to power and goes on a conquering spree.
Now, normally I'd call shenanigans at a Knightmare Frame defeating a Mobile Suit... but these are Leos that we're talking about here. They blow up if you so much as give them a dirty look.
Heero's tooling around Japan/Area 11, and intervenes when some (presumably Britanian) punks are harrassing a (presumably Japanese) mother and her baby. Since we see Suzaku getting arrested in an earlier page, the manga seems to start inbetween Episode 3 and Episdoe 4 of CG season 1.
Void Rivals #34
"ROM vs. the dreaded PREDACRON — everyone's favorite bounty-hunter! Wait a minute! Whose book is this, anyway?"
Talk about deep cuts. For those who don't know who Predacon is, or only knows about the Predacons from Transformers (both G1 and Beast Era), allow me to explain.
At the tail end of the original G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toyline, Hasbro was just throwing shit at the wall to see what stuck in order to boost toy sales, which is how we ended up with a whole bunch of weird sublines like Eco-Warriors, Mega Marines, Drug Elimination Force, and so on. One of these of Star Brigade, where the Joes and Cobra went into space to fight each other. Star Brigade also introduced a new faction, the alien Lunartix Empire, which is where Predacon comes from.
Now, because he and his fellow Lunartix are such latecomers, and are from an era of Joe that the fans would rather forget about, Predacon hasn't really showed up much in media; I think the last time was in the G.I. Joe vs the Transformers: Black Horizon by Devil's Due, all the way back in 2007, while the Lunartix Empire as a whole have been refered to in the Beast Wars Uprising series.
I always wondered if Void Rivals, which has gained a reputation as the playground of the deep cuts andrelatively obscure characters, would one day feature the Lunartix characters. Well, it seems that day has finally come.
Okay, Flagg, how many mad scientists do you know and pissed off? Cause now we're up to three (okay, Matt Trakker's not a "mad" scientist, but the point still stands).
Is this going to be a thing? Is every scientist character from the Sunbow cartoons going to show up and try to throw hands with Flagg? Becuase that'd be hilarious if that's the case.

To go along with the release of G.I. Joe Classified's Lara Croft figure, there's going to be an official G.I. Joe X Tomb Raider crossover comic, which is coming out in October, 2026, and, apparently, it's going to be in-continuity with Larry Hama's long running A Real American Hero comic.
I'm all for it TBH. While I don't know a whole lot about Tomb Raider, I feel like Lara and the crazy adventures she gets up to slot into G.I. Joe quite well.
Void Rivals #31
Once more, how dare Robert Kirkman make me have feelings about freaking Skuxxoid! I never cared abotu Skuxxoid before, and now I'm emotionally invested in this pig-lizard man.
Toy. When. Hasbro?
Genndy Tartakovsky, the legendary creator of Primal, is teaming with Prime Video and Cartoon Network Studios for a Conan series.
I've been waiting years for Conan to be given a quality animated show, and it seems as if my wish has been granted. It helps that I trust Genndy to pull it off, given that Primal is very much pulp Sword & Sorcery coded.
First season will be an adaptation of the Queen of the Black Coast.
"THE NEW SUPERION DEBUTS! That’s right! In a move no one could have predicted, Thundercracker takes his place among the Aerialbots! They assemble just in time to... wait… what’s that sound? Could it be? COBRA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA! "
First off, everyone who predicted that Thundercracker would become Superion's new arm, you called it.
Secondly, it looks like Cobra-La is finally going to become an active player.
G.I. Joe #23
Baroness learns that Hawk (really Zartan in disguise) is keeping secrets during her team-up with Destro, while Risk and Mercer seem to have come to an understanding.
Might be too early to call it as such, but I feel like the groundwork is being laid for Baroness and Mercer defecting from their respective factions and joining the other. After all, Baroness is one of the major Cobra characters in all continuities, while Mercer's whole thing is being an ex-Viper who joined the Joes. Their current affiliations were always going to be temporary.

IDW's Hasbro Universe MASK #1 sold around 30,000 copies.
Skybound's Energon Universe MASK #1 sold over 200,000 copies, sold out at the distributor level, and is going in for reprints.
See the difference that a year of buildup after being introduced in another comic can do for an IP? Of course, let's be honest; Skybound's MASK just has a better first issue than IDW's MASK, with better writing, a way more interesting Matt Trakker, and of course, a raher unique take on Miles Mayhem.
