I rode on Pidgeot as fast as I could to Geosenge, but it still took a little while to get there. It was a scary ride; Pidgeot was really fast. When I landed there, I put him back in the PC, trying to push past all the worried locals who didnât know what was happening. It was no illusion; the crystal flower took up almost all of the town; all by one of the houses had been destroyed and people were hurt because of its sudden eruption from under the earthâs surface. Seeing the wreckage only fueled my anger.
I spotted a Team Flare Grunt standing on the path where on my first visit to Geosenge, I followed a Grunt down this same path only for him to disappear. I approached him boldly, my Pokémon roaring for a fight. They too were very upset with the sight before him. Even Ampii, my Ampharos who was usually upbeat and unfailingly positive, trembled and began sparking wildly in anxiety at the sight. I turned to her.
âIf you feel you need to do something to right this, battling with me would be a great start girl.â I rubbed her long neck, her favorite spot to be petted. She nearly sparked me and nodded with eyes that looked like her soul was drowning in all the worry flooding them.
âYouâd better have come here prepared! Both you and your PokĂ©mon!â The Grunt challenged me with a Manectric first. I had Ampii a while now, and she was strong, but battling another electric PokĂ©mon when she was so upset took a toll on her. When I thought I would have to send her back into her Poke ball, she began to glow with the beautiful light of Mega Evolution, and became a Mega Ampharos. All this time Ampii had not wanted to Mega Evolve, but this chaos was even affecting my PokĂ©mon in ways I wasnât particularly fond of. I wanted her to Evolve when she felt ready, not when she felt forced.
In her new stage, Ampii was Taller, and had larger bulbous horns. Her tail became covered in a beautiful whit fur, which also trailed down her back. She now had more of the gems she once had on her head and tail, which was proof of her new and more powerful Special Attack. Her face was serious and from the sky she summoned a giant bold of thunder that took out her foe almost instantly. Ampii had learned Thunder. With Thunder, she also took out both the Scraftly and Golbat she faced, leaving the Grunt speechless. She was a powerhouse.
The Grunt ran off, and Ampii de-evolved to her former stage. âThat my friend, was beautiful and amazing.â I hugged my electric PokĂ©mon. âHelp me defeat Team Flare, will you?â Ampii cried out, her eyes looking a bit less worried. I followed the path the Grunt went down that led to what looked to be a newly formed building when I heard Calemâs voice.
âClaire, youâre not in this alone! When I was in Lysandreâs lab, the masked heroes told me what is going on. They also told me what Team Flare plans to do with the ultimate weapon! Câmon! Letâs stop Team Flare⊠No⊠We have to stop Lysandre himself! I⊠I want to protect my friends!â
I thanked him. âItâs great to know Iâm not by myself just with my own PokĂ©mon on this.â Up ahead there was a building that looked similar to an igloo made of rock with a steel door now visible on the front. I was surprised that when I walked up to the door, it opened for me. Team Flareâs secret headquarters shouldnât have been so easy to infiltrate. I took an elevator down to a floor I didnât know and headed out to see Grunts everywhere. Surprisingly, none of them battled me. Calem and I approached Lysandre.
âLysandre! You must put a stop to this!â
âThe ultimate weaponâs flower has finally bloomed above the soil. Donât you find its beauty captivating? As we speak, it draws its energy from the Legendary PokĂ©mon. Claire! I apologize that the weapon was unearthed even after you chose correctly in the lab. But conflicting egos drive this worldâthings donât always go the way you want!â
âThe legendary PokĂ©monâŠâ I whispered to myself. Somehow my dreams had known what was going to happen.
âUltimate weapon? We wonât let you use it!â Calem exclaimed.
âEven though resources, space and energy on this planet are limited, the number of people and PokĂ©mon has increased to an unsustainable level. Whether itâs money or energy, the ones who steal are the ones who win in this world.â
âSo what? That doesnât give you the right to destroy everyone except the few that Team Flare chooses!â Calem was yelling now and so was I.
âI canât believe you would kill everyone with no regard for any of their feelings! Youâre a complete⊠monster!â Tears stung my eyes.
âSo, tell me. The Mega Ring, did you share it?â He asked the two of us.
âThatâs different! We did compete to see who got it, butâŠâ Calemâs voice softened a bit and I could tell he was still hurt from losing that fight.
âWhen there is only one of something, it cant be shared. When something canât be shared, it will be fought over. And when something is fought over, some must survive without it. The only way to create a world where people live in beauty, a world without conflict or theft, is to reduce the number of living things.â
âWhat about PokĂ©mon?â Calem asked.
Lysandre was silent for a moment. Â A tear rolled down his cheek as he looked at the floor. My eyes widened and Calem spoke the words I could not.
âWhy are you crying?â
âPokĂ©mon⊠Shall no longer exist. PokĂ©mon are wonderful beings. Humans have worked with PokĂ©mon and we have helped each other flourish. But precisely because of that, they will inevitably become tools for war and theft!â He stepped forward, his face hardening. âEnough of this. You want to stop the ultimate weapon, and I refuse to do so. So I will keep you busy forjust a momentâŠâ Lysandre threw out his now evolved Mienfoo, Mienshao. Ampii, going into her evolved form had no trouble defeating it, and proceeded to also take on Lysandreâs Gyarados. Weakened by Mienshaoâs High Jump Kick and the tremendous energy it took to Mega Evolve and use attacks, I fought Lysandreââs third PokĂ©mon, his Pyroar, and fourth, a Honchkrow with Caeruleus, who battled with a ferocity I had never seen.
After being defeated once again, Lysandre looked away. âThe strength to protect, huh? But what are you really protecting? A tomorrow that will only end up being worse than today?â He paused. âYouâre as strong as ever. But⊠Itâs too late! Thereâs no hope for you now! Go down to the lowest floor, and see for yourself!â
âItâs not over until itâs over!â Calem remarked. He turned to me. âClaire, letâs look for the Legendary PokĂ©mon! Trainers are protected by PokĂ©mon, but they protect PokĂ©mon, too, right? Look! Thatâs the entrance to the lower floors over there!â
I nodded and ran to a door on the left of Lysandre where I ran down a long corridor with Calem.
âLetâs hurry!â
âDonât you think Iâve been doing that?â
We ran down two flights of stairs to be greeted with a Grunt and the bald scientist I had first met at the Power Plant.
âIâm afraid weâre going to have to ask you to turn back. The Legendary PokĂ©mon IS at the end of this chamber, after all.â The Grunt turned to the Scientist and looked at him as if he had three heads.
âWhy did you tell them that?! Who would even do something like that?!â
Calem and I were thrown into a double battle against the two, who had a Toxicroak and Liepard, nothing we hadnât dealt with before. I spent the entire battle hoping it wasnât too late, hoping we could save Xerneas. I had Cynder wipe out both PokĂ©mon with one Heat Wave.
Upon defeat, the two were very quiet, and could no longer do anything to stop Calem and I from going into the deeper chamber. A few staircases later, the two of us were greeted with another Grunt, and the other Admin who had been at the Power Plant.
âI just need to get to see Xerneas!â I yelled, sick of battling. This was wasting time.
âEve if things are just as we heard, I canât believe theyâre sending smart guys like us to run off some little âRattataâ that wandered in.â The Grunt sighed.
âWe wonât lose! You wonât get one step farther! The Trainers moving onto the next level will be Team Flare!â The pair came at us with a Manectric and a Mightyena. We took them down and kept moving.
As we were about to go down another set of stairs, Shaunaâs voice rang out down the hallway.
âClaire! Calem!â
âShauna?! What are you doing here?â Calem asked, a hint of anger in his voice.
âIâm sorry⊠I know⊠Iâm just going to slow you down.â
Calem was silent.
âButâŠâ She continued. âBut friends should stick together!â
âIâm sorry⊠I wasnât thinking clearly and I didnât consider your feelings. Thank you for coming. Friends should stick together.â He turned to me. Honestly, I thought this wasnât the time for this. âClaire, weâll all stick together, right?â I paused. Still, if I was going to die today, these were the people I would want to die with. Them and my mother. I nodded.
âNaturally.â
âItâs settled then! Shauna, Claire and I will go on ahead. Stay close, OK?â
âOk! Thank you!â
Calem and I headed down a flight of stairs that seemed like they would never end until we came across another set of people in our way. It was a quick battle, like the rest, and we were on our way again.
âThis is getting really annoying, theyâre just stalling us for time.â
âI know, but I think we are getting close.â
Finally, we came to a bright red door with a gold symbol of Team Flare marked on it. Shauna met up with us as we stared at the door.
âAn electronic lock⊠Now what?â Calem said, his frustration growing. Shauna stepped forward.
âThis might help! Itâs a device that helps you when youâre stuck on a puzzle. Clemont gave it to me! An electronic lock and a puzzle are the same sort of thing, right?â She did something with the mysterious puzzle solver Clemont gave her and there was a loud beep. âTa daa! The lock opened! Oh! And the device actually brokeâŠâ
âNot bad, Shauna! Well, Clemont was the one who made it, but you brought it here. So I guess both of you are pretty great!â He turned to me. âWeâre finally here. The Legendary PokĂ©mon is inside. Letâs save it together!â
