She nodded, a little bit relieved and it probably showed. Claire had to admit she didn’t relish the idea of dissecting the situation so it was ideal really. “You read my mind.” She teased, nodding again. “I could definitely use a drink, let’s do it.”

It was absolutely insane to her that people kept dropping like flies in this supposedly sacred haven called Claybourne. It was truly something out of a soap opera, one missing girl confirmed dead not too long ago and now a young man was missing. She had half the mind to get in contact with her family again, she knew they had the money and pull to push this investigation along if they needed. Staring at her phone in complete silence for what seemed like forever, she hadn’t noticed the shadow of the person walking past her at all, not until she looked up and got spooked, dropping her phone and letting out a soft yell. “Shit, I’m sorry.. you scared me..” she sad softly, clearing her throat and kneeling down to grab her phone. Once she was to her feet again, she looked at the person with a smile. “How are you holding up? I’m.. not sure how close to two of you were but… I know it’s probably heartbreaking to hear..”
“Sorry.” She hadn’t even realised the other girl was there, to be totally honest. Claire shook her head. “Honestly... I didn’t know the guy that well but... I heard some people say they don’t think he just walked off on purpose, it sort of... brings back all the Maddi stuff, I guess.” Claire couldn’t help but kind of wonder if it was really all just a big coincidence. Still, she didn’t want to dwell on it all. It was stressing her out and she did not do well with stress. “What about you?”
“Do you think we need to do one of those like town search parties? ‘Cause if we do, I need to change my shoes,” Amy rambled, picking up her drink. “I mean, from a legal perspective, does anyone know if he had any debt or anything like that?”
“Maybe?” Claire shrugged, looking over at her before she shook her head. “I mean, I didn’t really know that well, so... I’ve got no idea.”

“Well, I’m pretty good at that,” he laughed. “Want another?” he asked, nodding to her drink.
“Definitely.” She chuckled. “But make it a double.” Claire pushed the empty glass away gently. “Thanks.”

Kai smiled, laughing with her. “I’m glad you’re not complaining, means I’m an okay boss,” he nodded. “Midweek often isn’t like the weekend.”
“Yeah, yeah. I guess you’re not so bad.” Claire joked before she glanced around again and nodded. “Makes sense. Are you working late?”

Natalia nodded. “Yep, pretty shitty for sure. I’m clumsy, uneven ground and nice heels all added to me going over on my ankle,” she laughed at herself. “No? Good day then?”
“Me and heels aren’t friends so I feel your pain.” She chuckled, though winced a little. “It’s not bad or anything, right?” Claire shook her head. “No, pretty good day all round. No work, nice weather.”

“Yeah, I agree with you there,” he nodded. “Let me get you another drink? Lift the mood?”
“It’s like you read my mind.” Claire grinned at him, downing the rest of what was in her glass.

“You’re not going to go?” He asked. “I think the booster club would have something to say about that.” He laughed. “They take their traditions very seriously .. I wouldn’t be surprised if they made it law to attend.” He teased. “Minding your business is probably the best thing to do.”
“Hey, I wouldn’t be opposed to law breaking.” Claire joked with a little laugh. “Yeah... though sometimes I’m a little out of the loop.” She shrugged.
“Have you heard about this figure people keep spotting at the beach?” Eliza asked the other person. “What do you think? People seem a little worried. Do you think it’s Maddi’s ghost?” Eliza loved a good ghost story and believed they were real but people usually shut her down quickly when it came to that kind of talk. “Do you think it could be the person who did it?” @claystarters
Claire frowned, looking back at them. “Yeah, I don’t believe in ghosts.” She made a face. “I mean... what would they be creeping about for?”
“So do we have to dress fancy for this spring festival that is coming up?” Nate asked feeling a little out of the loop after being out of town for the week. Whenever he left he always felt as though a lot happened in the small amount of town and he always felt he needed to catch up. “What is this about someone creeping around on the beach? Did I miss something whilst i was gone?” @claystarters
Claire shrugged, looking back at him. “I don’t think I own anything I could wear if it is. But I don’t think I’m even going.” The beach thing was weird to her as well and she just shook her head. “Dude, I’m so not the one to ask. I mind my own business.”
Natalia hobbled along the path, her feet uneven with one shoe broken, the heel as evidence in her hand. She half laughed when she saw the other looking at her. “Yes, I went over on my ankle. Yes, it may possibly be broken and yes it broke my heel. That’s my day.” She pushed her hair back from her face. “How’s yours?”
Claire winced as she looked back at the other girl. “Sounds shitty.” She made a face, glancing down at her shoes with a slight chuckle, unable to help it. “Sorry. Anyway, I can’t really complain.”

Parker’s eyes glanced over her face for a moment, it was weird to think about the Maddie’s life. The people who had stories about her. He nodded. “I am, yeah. At least for now. I have a studio here. And staying for my mom, for my family for now.”
Claire nodded, liftig her drink to her lips again. “Right. That’s good.. family’s important.” She shrugged.
“no one’s gonna know this one, but it’s a good tune, i promise.” is he drunk? maybe a little. is he high? absolutely. the bar is somewhat empty, maybe because it’s late. late enough for everyone to go back home, but he’s still out. he needs this. “you ready?” luca presses the button on the jukebox. he likes this place because it’s 90s themed. it’s his favorite bar to be honest. he starts singing when the song starts playing. i’m only happy when it rains, i’m only happy when it’s complicated. he doesn’t care. and maybe a garbage song isn’t that much of a deep cut. but he can be such a snob when it comes to music. thinking he’s got great taste and all of that.

Claire laughed, looking over at him. “You reckon I wouldn’t know this song?!” She shook his head at him, amused. “This was practically my theme song when I was a teenager, man!”

Parker nodded. “She wasn’t all bad, I know that. I had good moments with her. Not all my memories are bad, she was still my sister.”
She nodded, smiling a little sadly. “Yeah.” She did miss when things had been better between them and she’d regret it. Still. “Anyway.” She straightened a little, deciding a change of topic would be happier. “Are you staying in town then?”

Claire didn’t really know what to say, she supposed it was no secret that he and Maddison weren’t the closest. Still. She shrugged. “It wasn’t that bad.” At first, anyway. But she kept that part to herself as she had another drink to fill the silence.
