Math is really tiring, im so glad i finally get to relax and do some knitting and crochet and i oh god oh my what the fuck
Applies to crochet and any other fiber arts too.
crispy new crochet/knitting meme for y'all based on my emotions today
Im sick with flu so naturally I picked up my newly bought copy of Howl's Moving Castle which includes DWJ interviews in the back.
And im in love with the way she tells these stories feels like a part of her books.
And my favorite:
The magic in the mundane :)
edit: I'm copying the ID by @princess-of-purple-prose below, thank you!
[ID: Excerpts of printed text which read:
I suppose there's also a biographical element in that Sophie is the eldest of three sisters, and so am I. The idea for Sophie grew out of the time I discovered I had a very severe milk allergy. I almost lost the use of my legs and had to walk with the aid of a stick. I was moderately young, but because of this I suddenly became old.
I had to wait until I knew what Wizard Howl was like. I began to discover Howl about the time when one of my sons took to spending several hours in the bathroom every morning and I got really, really, really annoyed with him.
Where were you when you wrote it? I wrote the book the way I write everything, stretched out on the big sofa in my sitting room, in everyone's way. This often annoys my husband rather a lot.
which made me burst out laughing. I laughed and laughed at the seven league boot, and when I came to the bit where Sophie accidentally makes Howl's suit twenty times too big for him, I laughed so much that I fell off the sofa. My husband was really irritated by this time. He snapped, "You can't be making yourself laugh!" And I gasped, "But I am, I am!" and rolled about on the floor.
Are any of your relatives or friends included in the book? Yes, well the thing that started me off writing the book was a friend of mine who never does her laundry. She has it around the place in huge bags for often as much as a year. When she does tip it all out and try to wash it, she discovers all sorts of clothes that she has forgotten she had.
Which is your favourite part of the book and why? I like the book all over, but I suppose if I had to choose a bit, I'd choose the place where Howl gets a cold. It so happened that when I was writing this bit, my husband caught a bad cold. He is the world's most histrionic cold catcher. He moans, he coughs, he piles on the pathos, he makes strange noises, he blows his nose exactly like a bassoon in a tunnel, he demands bacon sandwiches at all hours, and he is liable to appear (usually wrapped in someone else's dressing gown) at any time, announcing that he is dying of neglect and boredom. So all I had to do was write it down. End ID]
Microsoft has announced new features coming to its Paint app. The new features are currently available for Microsoft Insiders and will likel
MS paint is getting layers and transparency support. This is the single greatest art news of my life.
thinking about how adam couldnât wait to get away. how he was counting down the days. how henrietta didnât have the same magic it did for gansey or blue or ronan. henrietta felt like a grave and the only way to avoid being burried alive was to leave. and how he does leave, he does what little adam dreamt of and he leaves this place and the people the place holds. he starts over with one foot in a new life and one foot in the old. adam was supposed to love it. it was everything he ever wanted. it was the life he had been striving for. but cambridge felt like a new sort of grave to adam. he was being smothered by this persona he had manufactured, drowning in lies that were supposed to be lifelines.
sometimes the only way to accept a place and all itâs magic along with all its horrors is through leaving. adam left and was able to see that henrietta is not the villain. henrietta is a little bit of his father, yes, but it is made not only holy but worth returning to because it is a lot of gansey and ronan and blue and adam. adam is of henrietta. he is a product of its magic and after leaving, he can come back anew.
i think weâre all wrong. the problem isnât that the raven cycle doesnât have a comprehensible plot, itâs that it causes short term amnesia. while i am actively reading the books i understand the plot. i could probably maybe sorta describe what has happened. but as soon as i close that fucker. itâs all gone. i donât remember anything except vibes. i can recall random dialogue and situations but not what happened.
Itâs hard for me to believe now that when I started Carry On and wrote Agatha as being so disdainful of Ebb, I had no idea how their lives would wind together, or what lay head for Agatha. It seems so FATED now.
But even the scene where Agatha comes to Watford, at the end of Carry On, was a late addition. Agatha wasnât part of the ending in my first draft. She was lying in her bed at her parentsâ house, dreaming of Lucy Salisbury.
I kept thinking that I didnât know what to do with Agatha â and then realizing that I had to do something with Agatha. And then she became absolutely essential to the larger story.

Fun fact! Water actually turns âblood redâ when it is contaminated by sulfur creating sulfuric acid. And scientists have discovered that around the time of the plagues a volcano went off that disturbed Egyptâs environment. So the plagues are scientifically proven. The other parts of the plagues are explained by the sulfuric acid river making the animals leave the river and escaping into the human population.
WHY DIDNT ANYONE TELL ME THE PLAGUES WERE PROVEN
if anyone wants a full list heres how they happened:
basically they all stem from a massive eruption of a volcano on the island of santorini off the coast of greece. the ash then floated over to egypt which kickstarted the plagues
1) blood: the ash carried the mineral cinnabar, which has the capability of turning water red
2) frogs: the ash also had many toxic and acidic substances so naturally, all the frogs are gonna flee the river
3) lice: given what was going on insects would have burrowed into dead animals/peoples skin and laid eggs, which then hatched
4) beasts: everything is getting poisoned from the ash and toxins, causing animals to freak the fuck out/die
5) pestilence: toxins again
6) boils: the ash would have caused storms that carried acid rain which when it fell, would irritate peoples skin causing boils
7) hail: the storm again
8) locusts: again with the insects and the amount of dead bodies and such which attract more insects. a lotta insects basically.
9) darkness: the ash covered the sky, blocking out the sun
10) slaying of the first born: given that childrenâs bodies were found in higher numbers than others, some archeologists think they may have been sacrificed to stop all the destruction, but they arenât 100% sure about that. this is just me but I would say another possibility is that babies/kids are a lot more susceptible to toxins and shit, so while an adult may have been fine or gotten a bit sick, it might have been very dangerous/deadly for kids or babies
the volcano would also attest for the parting of the sea weirdly enough. the red sea was in fact the âreedâ sea, and was very shallow, probably waist deep or so. given the amount of shit dumped into the ocean from the volcano, this wouldve caused a tsunami to head towards egypt. the water would get sucked out from the reed sea right before the tsunami hit, letting people pass it easily, then the actual tsunami would hit, fuckin up anyone who tried to follow.
another theory is that the red water was caused by algae, which would cause the frogs and stuff to jump out as well. the algae also carried substances toxic to animals so if they ingested any theyâd get sick and die, so more insects. in this theory there was a sand storm coincidentally that caused the rest
some sources: X X
The volcano wasnât ON Santorini - it WAS Santorini, then called Thera. It completely blew away the Minoan settlements on the island and was one of the largest eruptions in human history.Â
The tsunamis from the Theran eruption devastated Crete, weakening the then-powerful Minoan civilization, leaving them open to being invaded by the Mycenaeans.
The volcanic winter it created devastated crops in China leading to the fall of the Xia Dynasty.Â
The abrupt and catastrophic loss of the people of Thera may have also inspired the myths about Atlantis.
this is blowing my fucking mind
I love that if you really boil all this information down, what you get is something approximating âthe sinking of Atlantis caused the 10 Biblical plagues of Egyptâ which is, like, one of the greatest mythological mash-ups I have ever heard of.
was anyone else a kid who used to go to their local library and take out and read six or seven books a week and is now an adult who struggles to even get through one real book in three months
