Exactly and honestly, it should be simple enough to do considering we’re in the same room so it’d make sense to spend our evenings together. I agree, even though the thought of making friendship bracelets seems tempting, I’ll admit that I’d rather read a chapter of Pride and Prejudice. Mr. Darcy sounds like a dream, I’d give anything to be a character in a book, their lives might not have been easier but at least we know there’s a happy ending, yeah?

It would be so ridiculously easy, I can't believe we haven't hung out more often honestly. Reading together sounds like a crazy fun time -- we can even do the voices if we're feeling really wild. I feel the exact same way! I often find myself daydreaming about what it would be like to live in a book, especially when I start reading something. I guess not all books have a happy ending, but their lives always seem a little bit shinier than those in reality...if that makes any sense.

Yes. I don’t have the best luck with books, though.. I get so caught up in my own mind that I’ll have to start the same page over and over again until I just completely give up on the book. A book club sounds like it would be nice! I’ve never been in a book club before.

That's the situation I've been finding myself in lately, yeah. I've practically memorized the first sentence of every book that I've wanted to read over the past year. Well, a few people have expressed interest in it so maybe we'll have a small impromptu beach house book club.

Uh…Not really? I mean, I don’t like, read that much, unless I really need to. And I really wouldn’t be reading Don Quixote or Paradise Lost, wow. There’s totally a bunch of places that I’ve wanted to go to for a while but I haven’t gone because of wars and stuff. That’s kinda like that? Maybe. I don’t know how many people would join though, man.

That seems to be such a common attitude around the house, which is sort of sad. Reading is such a valuable resource. But of course, I would never force it on anyone so I'll stop there. Oh, well, traveling is an aspiration of mine too. Where were you wanting to visit?

Ah, I have had something like that happen to me before. It was actually a very popular book. I think it was called Please Stop Laughing at Me? Or something along those lines. Turns out, I read the book in just a matter of two days. It’s a good read, but I don’t believe I’ve read the novels you are currently talking about. What are they about? Not like I’ll read them or anything, it’s summer and I would rather waste my time shopping; but I’m a bit curious.

Hm, I've actually never heard of the book you mentioned, but it sounds great! Maybe I'll have to add that to my little personal summer reading list. My picks are actually a bit strange, but um -- the first, Paradise Lost is basically a 17th century poetry anthology. And then Don Quixote is more of a narrative about a man who goes on a journey in order to bring justice back to the world. I don't think they're for everyone -- in fact, they might not even be for me -- but they sound intriguing all the same.

No because one, do I look like the reading type? Two, do I seem like I have the fuckin’ time? What the fuck? I haven’t heard of any of those—okay maybe that paradise one, but still. You want to read a long book? Damn, you really must have a shit ton of time on your hands. There’s a book club? God our town is so fuckin’—ugh. Yeah you are because it’s better to live you damn life then live it through creamy pages.

I don't think people who read have a certain 'look' to them; it's just an activity that most intelligent people enjoy doing. Do you only read books that you've heard of? Interesting. There isn't a book club yet, no, but I'd like to make one possibly -- I don't know. I just think that spending a bit of your time with your head in a book gives you a better outlook on life for when your head's out of the book.

I wish I did it more, but it’s all about finding a book to read, as well as the right time and place to do so, you know? If you do make one, like I said, count me in, but you’re gonna have to pick out a book for me, ‘cause to be honest, I trust your judgement on the best books, way more then mine. I mean, the last book I read was some long manual I had to read to prepare myself for when I went up into space, and that barely counts as a book, so. Poetry? Not my thing, but I could try the second, I imagine. Or maybe an easier book first, like, To Kill A Mockingbird. That’s a classic, isn’t it? Do you look reading books from the 17th century, you know, older books and stuff?

That's completely understandable. I just wish sometimes that reading was as common a leisure activity as watching a tv and less of a chore, if that makes any sense. My opinion really isn't that valuable, but it's sweet that you trust it all the same. A space manual? That actually sounds pretty interesting -- are you planning on experiencing space travel in the near future? Yeah, it might not be the best idea to start off with either of the books I mentioned, but To Kill a Mockingbird would be an excellent choice! It has some really great social statements laced in, such as the issue of racial inequality; I don't know if that sounds interesting to you but yeah. Um, I guess I do like reading books from the 17th century. I think I've just always been interested in older stuff, like, antique stores are some of my favorite things in the universe for some reason.

No, no, not at all, but I’m flattered you think so. Just my random musings, I guess, was it really thought-provoking? We did, yeah, and as philosophical as it might be it’s unfortunately all too true. I worry about what the planet’s going to be like in 50, 100 years…y’know? That’s actually a great idea! You're far too modest! Yes it was thought-provoking, but perhaps because it was your own thought you found it to be less so than I did. Oh, no -- that is a depressing notion. And it just gets more depressing to think that there are still some people who deny that global warming exists; I guess we have a lot of progress that we still need to make. Yes exactly, 'a literary support group.' I like the sound of that, actually.

My head is already at full capacity with the amount of business plans and other shit I’ve got to know to keep my dad’s company alive. So yes, only come for the snacks and then I’ll bounce. But not without saying hi to my best friend Clara, of course. Yes I enjoyed Jane Eyre. I also liked Grapes of Wrath and Frankenstein. It’s funny how modern day society has misconstrued Frankenstein to be this hideous monster, when the creature Dr. Victor Frankenstein created never actually had a name. Anyway, yeah. Sounds like a good plan, let me know how it works out.

So because one's head is already swimming with ideas, they should halt their desire to know even more? That doesn't make much sense to me, but just a little food for thought. Ah, well your 'best friend Clara' has read The Grapes of Wrath as well, so it looks like we have something in common. Unfortunately I haven't been able to read Frankenstein yet, but I have noticed that people tend to use the doctor's name for the monster -- I guess 'the monster' just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Yeah, I’ve never thought about it but that is strange. But what other words would we use to describe inanimate objects? We’ve claimed all words as our own, us humans, so nothing’s left uniquely for inanimate objects. However, then we have the opposite problem, you know? What if someone wants to keep reading but they have to stop because of the page limit? Gosh, this is tougher than you’d think.

Did you happen to be a philosophy major in school? Because that was incredibly thought-provoking -- I guess there are a few words that are unpleasant to use for describing people just because of their association with objects, but we've even taken those for ourselves as well. Just like humans took the entire planet for themselves before proceeding to destroy it. Wow, now I'm getting far too philosophical. True, that's another problem that could come up. Perhaps instead of a book club a reading support group would be more appropriate. We could cheer each other on as we individually read books that we've wanted to start for a while and share our progress!

It’ll surely be a success, there’s got to be plenty of people who need to get some more reading in. Oh but the roommate book club sounds nice too, we need to spend more time together anyway. You’re my roommate, I feel like in a sense, we should be better friends than we actually are right now. Really? What a coincidence, we can read it together and talk about it then, yeah? I’ve heard that too, with people often asking for their own Mr. Darcy. I’ve never been able to relate considering I didn’t even know who that was.

I agree, we need to do more bonding activities -- read bedtime stories together, make friendship bracelets, braid each other's hair; something like that. Those were all terrible ideas, but hopefully I got the basic "bestie" idea across. Of course! I'm sure reading Pride and Prejudice would be a much more mature bonding activity than making friendship bracelets, anyway. Maybe by the end we'll both be asking for our own Mr. Darcy as well, as it sounds like it's pretty hard to resist his 19th century charm.

Personally, I can’t say I have. Readings cool and all, I just don’t do it very often. Probably because I can’t sit for so long without getting distracted, but that’s besides the point. Although, if you ever did make a Gulf Shores book club, I’d definitely give reading more a go! What are the books you want to start reading about? What makes you wanna read them? Do they have an interesting plot? Well rounded characters? C’mon, enlighten me.

Oh my gosh, you must read more often! I'll start up that club just for you if I have to because reading is truly a lost art that should be practiced more. I'll probably be way off on these descriptions, but Paradise Lost is essentially a massive narrative poetry anthology written in the 17th century, and just the language in the thing that's difficult to dig through -- at least, that's what I've heard. And Don Quixote is a novel from around the same time period that recounts the adventures of a man attempting to bring justice to the world. It was actually originally written in Spanish and I'd like to read it in it's sort of "true form," but apparently it's nearly impossible to do.

Can’t say I’ve got an awful lot of time on my hands to read, so I’d probably only show up for the snacks if I’m being honest. I remember reading Jane Eyre in high school though ,and I thought it was going to be brutal due to the amount of pages it contained― but it was actually a really good book. The large estates, the way they spoke, and Mr. Rochester’s wealth all intrigued me. Anyway, don’t let length intimidate you. Just take it one page at a time and before you know it, you’ll be on the last page wondering why you were so nervous in the first place.

Only come for the snacks when there's the possibility of filling your head with more knowledge? I have to say I'm a little disappointed, Walker -- although I guess this is a fairly common attitude for people to have. You enjoyed Jane Eyre? Well now I'm impressed; got any other classic American novels under your belt that I'm unaware of? But that's good advice, maybe I'll just read the first ten pages of one of them and see if it flows.
