This is high functioning depression - hiding in plain sight, appearing to have it all together when you feel very much the opposite. Besides the serious (almost glum) expression, no one would've thought anything was wrong with me today. As a society, we're being sold an image of mental illness that simply doesn't fit its heterogeneity - not all illnesses are visible & not every mentally ill person will act or appear the same in every situation. Today, I felt more vulnerable than I have in a long time & I can't remember feeling any other way. And yet I know this feeling will pass eventually.
