Good days on the island were a rarity. If anything, there were only good moments on the island. Short periods of levity that provided relief from the everyday struggle of surviving nature and the elements. Since being here, Divya has learned that you have to create those good moments, that they don’t always just happen. They took a bit of effort sometimes but the effort, for the sake of your own or someone else’s smile, was definitely well worth it. At least that’s what Divya believed so it’s what she tried to practice. “Hey, hey,” Divya greeted as she approached Clarke, flashing a grin at the other girl when she came to a stop in front of her. She had her hands behind her back, clearly hiding something there, and she couldn’t stop smiling. Her good mood simply couldn’t be contained. And why? Well, Clarke was about to find out. “Have you got a second? I have something for you.”

clarke had been doing her best to keep herself busy. it was easy considering there was so much work to be done for the new camp. she was stacking fire wood neatly at the end of camp so they wouldn’t have to scramble through the jungle in the dark to keep the fire going. looking up when she heard divya, a smile pulled on her lips. “hey welbs,” she returned the greeting. she seemed to be in a good mood which was pretty rare with most of the eves. it was nice to see someone happy for once. setting down the last of the wood, she brushed her hands off on her pants and turned to her. “uh, sure, what’s up?”

“Don’t sweat it,” Odessa assured, giving a wave of her hand. “It’s not like you’d have known.” Obviously. Unless Clarke was psychic. Odessa shifted her weight from foot to foot, looking at anything other than Clarke for a moment till that feeling of embarrassment settled and she could push it away. But it worked. The vulnerability. Clarke promised not to tell. Odessa didn’t know the other girl too well but she didn’t seem like the type to break her word, so she was trusting her. “Thanks,” she said, even if the word came out sort of stilted and forced. When Clarke extended an offer to ‘talk about it’, Odessa bit her lip. She should have known that was coming. She felt a bit annoyed with herself for not foreseeing it. “Honestly? Not really.” Odessa pushed out a breath. “Not to be a bitch or anything. I know you’re just trying to be really nice, there for me, and I appreciate that. I just think talking about it might make me want to rip my skin off. It’s not you. I’m just…” In serious need of therapy? “Difficult.” Always has been one way or another when it came to things like this. She pushed out a sigh, running a hand through her hair.

“So… your, uh, loo,” Odessa started after a moment. “Think you could do a solid and not pick here for it?” For so many reasons, Odessa did not want this to be the new piss spot. So many. Regardless of if that’s what Clarke was actually doing or not. “I just…” She put her hand on the tree, patting it. “…I really like banging my forehead on it and it’d suck if tomorrow, there was a hole right where I’m standing filled with piss and shit.”

clarke nodded but she still felt bad for intruding on odessa. of course, she was right, she couldn’t have known. after all, clarke thought she was alone as well. “right,” she said softly, offering her a smile. she wouldn’t admit it, but she was kind of glad odessa denied her help, of course she would listen if she did want to talk, but clarke was busy and didn’t want to be side tracked more than she already has been. “i understand, i don’t always like talking about things either.” in fact, she rarely talked about her issues, even with the other eves, she was more of the listener of the group. “if you ever do need to talk about it though, i’m here,” she offered again, just to be safe.

at her request, clarke felt her cheeks get hot with embarrassment, realizing again that her lie wasn’t very smart. “oh right, yeah, of course, i’ll go somewhere else. i’m sorry again for, erm, interrupting.” clarke lingered for a second more before walking off but when she was a few meters away from odessa, she looked over her shoulder to keep an eye on her.

Grace couldn’t help but laugh at Clarke’s assessment, mostly because she had a good point and Grace was impressed that she hadn’t been afraid to share it so candidly. “Cos it is,” she concurred with the smile still lingering as she spoke, “No way we’re normal- like it’s not a bad thing to be not normal or to be normal or whatever, it’s just you know, how some people are but no way we’re normal,” she insisted and she believed it to be utterly true. Perhaps the four New Yorkers created somewhat of a spectrum of normality when lined up against one another but the fact remained, they were none of them normal. “The City does that to people, you gotta be weird to live there or wanna live there cos it’s a weird place” she deduced, somewhat proudly.

“For real,” that was, in fact, an exact thought that Grace had had on more than one occasion, it was nice to hear that Clarke’s brain seemed to work in a similarly unusual manner. “I think about that shit all the time like not just with fears but with anything like, who cracked open an oyster for the first time and thought like ‘ yeah, that shit looks good, imma eat it,’ she questioned, rhetorically. She laughed again and it felt nice, things were easier with Clarke than they were with most of the others and Grace appreciated that about her, “Nah but if you were gonna be afraid of a colour, what would yours be? Mine’s like, hmm, maroon red,” she decided, out of nowhere, a chuckle chasing her words as she considered how ridiculous it was.

clarke nodded, laughing lightly when grace agreed with her. but as someone who’s never even left england before this whole retreat business, all clarke knew about new york came from tv and movies and what she saw online. new york seemed so strange to her. but it was kind of nice how proud the new yorkers were of their home. almost everyone seemed to have someone else from their home, at least vaguely, but no one stuck together as much as the new yorkers did. “i think i’d like to visit one day, but it may be a huge culture shock to me,” she said with a smile. “why’d you leave? school?” she asked, knowing that she and erin were also from the same area as of recently.

“no, exactly. things like that really make you wonder. i love questions,” she said simply. “it’s kind of why i know so much. my mom would say that i’m too curious for my own good, but i just wonder things and then read about it.” the kids back home used to bully her for it too. they’d make fun of her for being a know-it-all. but she decided not to bring that up with grace. grace seemed so cool, she didn’t want her to know what her life was like back home. “oh maroon, that’s good, like blood,” she said with a nod before taking a second to think about her own answer. “maybe erm, diseny villian green. i mean, green is my favorite color, like dark green. but disney villians always have this bright, almost neon green they use. like maleficent’s fire, scar’s smoke. it’s kind of engrained in us a kids to be associate that with evil.” she was almost embarrassed by her answer. grace’s was simple and light and there was clarke, feeling weird about how she rambled about her own answer.

“Same,” Joss concurred, she would have thrown Lex’s suitcase into the fire if it meant getting just half of hers back. She missed clean clothes, she missed her own clothes, she missed feeling like herself.

At the mention of sunburn Joss touched her cheeks delicately with the tips of her fingers, feeling the scaley skin under them. “I’m so glad there aren’t mirrors everywhere,” she commented, thinking out loud. She dread to think of just how bad her sunburn might look if she had a proper mirror to inspect it with. God, she hoped it didn’t cause any lasting damage. What if she had fucked up skin for the rest of her life? She supposed it didn’t really matter if this was the rest of her life.

“I-” she started, hesitating for a moment as she tried to come up with some sort of reasonable answer, “I literally have no idea but I definitely have some questions for Elise,” she commented, laughing a moment later, “Assuming this belongs to Elise,” it was a pretty easy guess in Joss’ opinion, she had a feeling that Lex wouldn’t be caught dead in a graphic tee, let alone one that made mention of cuddling farm animals.

clarke gave a soft, sympathetic smile when joss touched her face. all of the eves were suffering from awful sunburns but some like joss and jude who were on the fairer side seemed to have it much worse. the shade would definitely do them some good. “yeah, i really don’t want to know what i look like right now. we can all just agree to never speak about it,” she said, trying to slip in a little joke at their own expenses. considering how the other eves looked, clarke could assume how she did.

she couldn’t help but giggle a little as they both took in the shirt. it was actually kind of interesting differently the 18 of them liked their styles. elise probably really liked that shirt to pack it for this retreat but people like clarke and joss thought it was weird and didn’t know what it means. “maybe it’s some inside joke or something? like an american thing?” she thought out loud. but if there was one thing she was grateful for, it was how this has seemed to defuse the tension between her and joss. maybe things weren’t perfect but the soccer player didn’t seem to want to hit her or tell her off anymore. “i wish i hadn’t worn jeans on the plane,” she said, moving to some of the other clothes she had hanging out to dry. “wet denim is an awful feeling.”

With the question turned to her, Odessa pressed her lips together. “I…” She started, unsure where she wanted to go with this. She could say something outlandish and inappropriate – like she was here to let out a massive fart – but figured that would come off more strange than anything. So instead, Odessa bit the bullet and decided to use vulnerability as an excuse. “…was going to… cry.” She dug her teeth into her bottom lip, looking away for a moment like admitting that was so shameful to her before turning face to Clarke again. “Listen, it’s just – today’s been tough, alright? The ocean nearly took me out, we moved spots… Sometimes a bitch just needs to wail and I didn’t want the attention of anyone at camp, or even the possibility of anyone seeing me, so–” Odessa sighed. It wasn’t so far from the truth. In fact, saying it out loud now, crying felt like the perfect solution to solve how Odessa was feeling in all honesty. But she hated it, expressing her emotions in a way that was so raw. “Look, can you be cool about this and not tell anyone? I just… don’t wanna come off like someone who doesn’t have it together, you know?”

of all things odessa could have told her for why she was out in the jungle in the middle of the night, she did not expect that reason to be that she was crying. out of the two of them, clarke was more likely to be crying in the middle of the night. in fact, she has most nights. but odessa seemed so much more put together than any of the other eves. though, maybe that’s why she seemed put together, because she saved her emotions for when she was alone. “oh-” clarke said, looking away from the other girl, embarrassed for her. “i’m sorry, i didn’t- i didn’t know,” of course she didn’t but she didn’t know what else to say. this was not how she pictured her night going, this was supposed to be a quick thing. get in and get out. and now she had to deal with this before going about her business. “right, yeah, no, i wont tell anyone, promise.” she looked back over at odessa, offering her soft smile in the darkness, reassuring her that she wasn’t going to tell. “do- do you want to talk about it or...?”

“Have you ever heard about all those rubber ducks?” Oona started. “That fell off a ship sometime… Gosh, I don’t know, a long time ago. I saw a post about it on Instagram once.” She’d completely forgotten the year it occurred. To her knowledge, it could’ve been anytime between the very invention of rubber ducks themselves and the early 2000′s. At the very least a couple decades ago. “Thousands and thousands of rubber ducks and bath toys and stuff fell off a ship during a storm. I think it was somewhere in the Pacific Ocean? And now, decades later, they still wash up on all different beaches. All over the world. They travel thousands and thousands of miles. Some were totally frozen in the Arctic too. How kooky, right?” She was babbling, a thin vein of anxious energy still coursing through her. The adrenaline crash, maybe. “The ocean’s totally kooky. Maybe we’ll get some of those ducks if nothing handy washes up. A little consolation prize. Useless, but cute. Sort of like a pet rock.” Oona hummed as she listened. A storm surge. “Kind of like when an earthquake makes a tsunami happen?” Cause-and-effect. Made sense. Oona was prone to take people at their word, so she pretty much instantaneously bought into Clarke’s theory. It will take longer to pull back out. She frowned at that and tried to find an immediate silver lining. “But that means it’s not super likely to happen again, right?” God, she really hoped that’s what it’d all mean. “Or at least… not a lot.”

clarke couldn’t help but chuckle lightly as oona explained these rubber ducks. “no, i don’t think i’ve ever heard of that,” which kind of surprised her, but it sounded really cute. the ocean worked in mysterious was. it would be interesting if this place, that seemingly has never been touched by humans before they crashed here, would end up getting one of those thousands of rubber ducks. “it think that would be pretty cool. i mean, it may not be rescue, but it would be a sign that we’re not completely cut off from the rest of the world. you know what i mean?” she looked to oona, offering her a smile. “plus, you’re right, just because something seems useless, it can still be fun. grace and i have been collecting rocks. they’re usless, but it’s something fun to do.” she quite liked the idea of having a rubber duck to sit with a pet rock. like a little camp mascot now that bozo was pretty much destroyed. nodding her head at oona’s question, she went on to explain. “when a storm happens in the ocean, it creates a sort of vortex, sucking water into it and raining it back down. when it does that, it can create these huge waves and tides on land. i’m only guessing, obviously, but i think that’s what happened. maybe the storm was far away enough so the rain had stopped by the time the waves hit us or something.” of course, clarke wasn’t an expert, this was just things she read about. before now, she’s never even travelled to a beach. “no, i mean, i hope it doesn’t happen again. but i think these things are pretty rare in normal situations.” normal meaning not in a hurricane season, but there was nothing normal about their situation with the island.

“Clarke?” What the hell was Walling doing up right now? Odessa cursed herself silently for not doing a headcount before she departed from the group. “It’s alright,” she assured the other girl, letting out a sigh of relief seeing as it was just another Eve and not a deadly predator. I was just, um, trying to find a new spot for the loo. Odessa’s brows pulled together. “At night?” She asked, clearly suspicious of that answer. “I think you’re better off doing that when it’s light out…” She pointed out, regardless of how wary she was about what Clarke was actually doing out here. Odessa scratched at the back of her neck a little, the awkwardness setting in now that she couldn’t go about her business seeing as Clarke was here. “Could you not sleep?” She asked, making conversation now since it’s not like she’d be having the moment alone she desired.

that was a bad excuse, clarke knew it as soon as it came out. she wasn’t great at thinking on her feet. so when odessa called her out on it, she didn’t even blame her, it was a bad lie. “well... mother nature doesn’t always wait for the morning,” she said with a shrug. clarke looked back to the other girl when she pushed on, making small talk. “uh, no, not really. everything from today, i guess. it’s just keeping me up.”, her eyes glancing around odessa, wondering why exactly she was wandering around the jungle in the middle of the night. her eyes landing on the tree she had be looking at just before clarke had walked up. what was she doing? “what are you doing out here so late?” she asked, being brave.

hope for the best. it was a sentiment elise felt that the group couldn’t escape from. hoping for survival, for food, for peace, the last one the tide refused to let them enjoy for long. “nobody seems to be hurt right?” admittedly, elise was more familiar with the mountains of california than it’s beaches but the way the tide pulled their stuff away was forceful enough to have her concerned. clarke looked okay and that was a win to elise.

“i’m fine.” elise confirmed, her hangover was making it’s prescence known but that was hardly the group’s problem and not one she wanted to burden clarke with. “i guess we have to move camp again..once everyone is accounted for.” elise had hoped shane had her journal and was scribbling about being in love or whatever but that seemed unlikely. “if i see any journals i’ll grab them…we may have to start a new list though.” she had hoped to prepare her friend for the dissapointment, elise liked how organized clarke was, how reliable. “it’ll be okay.” she said, not really believing it herself but wanting to for clarke’s sake.

“no, i don’t believe so,” clarke said, glancing around at the eves who have gathered around the jungle near them. thankfully, even if they may have lost things, no one seemed to be hurt. they didn’t have great luck, but at least this was as lucky as they could get right now. she nodded lightly when elise confirmed that she was fine. she always worried about the other girl, she seemed far more fragile than anyone else here which meant keeping more eyes on her in times of trouble. “yeah, it’s probably not safe to stay on the beach, this might happen again. but i think it may be safer this way, exposure is more dangerous than anything else.” the jungle would provide protection and the tides were too unpredictable, they couldn’t risk losing more things to the ocean. “thanks, i appreciate that. i’m not too worried, it just would have made things easier,” she said with a light shrug of her shoulders.

Joss raised an eyebrow at Clarke’s question, “You planning a holiday somewhere?” she questioned and couldn’t help but laugh slightly at the thought. Once she landed back home, she wasn’t convinced she’d be all that eager to get on another plane any time soon. Certainly not for any tropical retreats, she knew that much. “-but nah, yeah, I reckon you’re right,” once she had actually thought about it for a moment or two, Clarke had raised a pretty good point. “Not that it matters what I packed anyway now that it’s at the bottom of the ocean but I really, really wish Lex had thought her luggage through a bit better,” she had already stolen a pair of Lex’s shorts that she had selfishly claimed as a part of her own personal wardrobe but aside from that, the four hundred bikinis variants Lex had supplied were fairly useless.

She untied the sweatshirt that had been secured around her waist, realising then for the first time that it was Shane’s. She hoped it wouldn’t remind Clarke of her outburst at the other girl, or anybody for that matter and that everybody could just pretend they didn’t hear it. She threw the sweatshirt over a branch before peeling off her damp tank top, shuddering as a chill ran up her spine. “It’s so much colder off the beach,” she noted, muscles tense as her damp skin became exposed to the cool air. “Can I borrow that for a bit?” she asked, pointing at the t-shirt, “I’m fucking freezing and I don’t love having my tits out for everyone” she conceded, wrapping her arms around her middle for warmth.

It took a moment for her to actually register the words on the t-shirt and what she’d thought was just a mess of lines and squiggles had actually turned out to be the image of…a goat? In my mind I’m holding a goat. “What the fuck?” she whispered under her breath, trying to be subtle though the look on her face made it quite clear that she wasn’t necessarily a fan of the design.

clarke gave an awkward laugh at the accusation. “no, no, i am definitely, never flying again,” she said quickly. after all of this, clarke never wanted to travel again, she was sure all of the eves felt the same way. of course, depending on where they were in the world, she and joss were some of the unlucky ones who were going to have to fly home when they were rescued. but she smiled when joss agreed with her. “right? i’m glad some of our stuff washed up, but lex’s out of all of us? makes me just a tad jealous.” she thought about her sweaters sitting in her suitcase at the bottom of the ocean, her tshirts and sweat pants. all things that she would feel more comfortable in than lex’s very flashy and revealing clothes.

"yeah, i feel like the trees really cool the place down. but at least it will do wonders for our sunburns.” you win some, you lose some, she thought to herself. clarke didn’t realize joss had already taken off her damp shirt until she spoke up again. “oh right, yeah, sorry,” she said quickly as she held the shirt out to joss, quickly looking away to give her some privacy. it’s not until she has the shirt on that she looks back at her, hearing her swear under her breath. clarke cocked her head to the side as she looked at the shirt. “what does that even mean?” she thought out loud. “at least it’s dry- well drier?” she tried to look on the bright side of things for the sake of joss.

Grace wrinkled her nose slightly, making it quite obvious that she hadn’t ever considered the idea of keeping a centipede as a pet but now that she had, she wasn’t in any way enamoured with the idea. “Nah, fuck that,” she said, her harsh accent and vulgar wording a stark contrast to Clarke’s rather pleasant cadence. “A guy in my old building had a Chinese Water Dragon called Junjie that he used to like, put up on his shoulder and stuff and that dude wasn’t scared of anything, he was so chill,” she paused a moment before she realised the vagueness of her words “Junjie was chill, I mean- his owner was like…he would say stuff like the CIA was going through our trash at night to make sure we weren’t talking about JFK and shit,” in retrospect, he was one of the more pleasant neighbours that Grace had had.

She nodded her head in agreement, it was quite evident that Clarke had a good memory, she could identify different types of rock from the slightest difference in hue and she knew a whole bunch of stuff about bugs- including how to pronounce entomophobia, which Grace did not. “I got one” she announced, “Oikaphobia - it’s a fear of like, the inside of a home, like regular home appliances or whatever. Being afraid of seeing like a toaster and an oven in the same room together cos it’s too homey - homely, I mean,”

listening as grace talked about her neighbor and this junjie. on one hand, new york sounded like an interesting place to live, but on the other, she couldn’t even imagine it in her very sheltered life. “that’s pretty cool,” she said with a smile. “well, the lizard part, not the crazy guy going through your trash,” she tacked on with a laugh. “why does new york sound like another planet to me? i mean, you're normal, and the others,” well jude stretched the definition of normal at times, but she wouldn’t say that out loud, “but sometimes i hear things and it sounds so ridiculous over there.”

she couldn’t help but chuckle at grace’s addition. “i’ve never heard of that one. kind of like the opposite of agoraphobia,” she observed. maybe not the exact opposite, but similar in a way. “it really makes you wonder, how many people have to have these fears before they put a word to it? like, say i’m the first person ever to say i’m scared of the colour yellow, do they automatically know it’s going to be called xanthophobia or does it take, you know, five or ten people to all say they’re also scared of yellow?” this was such an odd conversation, but honestly, she much preferred her weird conversations with grace over anything else. it kind of felt like their thing at this point. “for the record, i’m not scared of the colour yellow,” she felt like she needed to clarify, just in case grace assumed that.

Joss chewed the fleshy inside of her cheek a little awkwardly as she kept her back straight and accepted Clarke’s explanation wordlessly. She believed that the other girl was sincere, it just didn’t feel like it mattered much now, so far removed from what had happened the night before. It was easy for everybody to blame the alcohol, blame the stress and circumstances on how they had behaved but it didn’t take the sting away, it didn’t ease the tension. “Thanks,” she said, for a lack of anything more poetic to say for the time being. She was, for the most part, at a loss for words.

The question that followed caught Joss off guard and for a moment or so she wasn’t entirely sure what Clarke had meant. “Oh, yeah,” she responded, once it had clicked. “Yeah, nah, I’m good, I mean- yeah, it’s pretty shit but I’m all good,” she confirmed before looking down at her wet clothes with a soft sigh. She squeezed the fabric of her tank between her palms and twisted it, attempting to wring it out but it was fairly futile, “Actually- yeah, that’s not a bad idea,” she mused, despite her desire to say ‘no thanks’ and leave Clarke for another couple of weeks before they were forced to talk about.

clarke nodded at joss’ words, surprised she was still humoring her with a conversation. with most of the eves, she preferred to pretend she was invisible; never talking much, keeping to herself, it was easier that way. but maybe that’s why she didn’t have very many strong connections with the other eves so when they did stick around, she was surprised. “that’s good to hear, i- i mean that you’re good,” she said, looking down at her hands for a second. at least with the fiasco that was this morning, no one was seriously hurt. looking back up at joss as she tried to wring out her clothes, clarke moved back to where she had been hanging things. touching some of the first things she had hung up. “i think this stuff it pretty dry,” she said, holding up a graphic tee that she assumed was elise’s. she knew most of the eves preferred to wear their own clothes, clarke included, but desperate times and such. “do you think this will change how we think about packing in the future?” she asked after a moment, just trying to fill the awkwardness between them. “i mean, i was already pretty mental about packing a lot of socks and underwear, but i’m definitely going to have to add more variety just in case. maybe stash some food too, that would be nice...” her voice trailed off when she realized that joss probably didn’t care at all what she was talking about.

“For real?” Grace evidently did not know that, in fact, she didn’t really know anything about centipedes except that they were mean lookin’ and had a whole bunch of legs that made them seem more spooky than they were when you thought about them for long enough. “Nah, I didn’t,” she assured the other girl, “-but that’s good to know cos this one was trying to crawl in my butt, dead ass,” she offered with a chuckle. “How do you know so much stuff about stuff, man? I feel like I don’t know stuff about stuff unless it’s like, right in front of my eyes,” like she knew a lot more about the Chipotle menu than any decent person should, she knew a lot about skateboarding and she knew a lot about the hoods she grew up in. Maybe it was different in England, maybe they just took like, cool shit classes where they learned about anything and everything all the time.

it was dumb, really dumb in the grand scheme of things, but she was glad that her random fact worked to at least ease some of her own nerves when it came to talking to grace. “mhm, did you also know that some people keep them as pets?” she asked, even letting a small chuckle out when she went on to say that one tried to crawl up her butt. “i think you’re butt is safe, but still shouldn’t risk it,” she tried to turn it into a joke but like most things with clarke, it came out awkwardly. a light blush hit her face when grace asked how she knew so much, thankfully it was hidden under days of sunburn and freckles. “oh, um, i read a lot and have a pretty good memory,” she said modestly. “i had to write a paper once on fears and i used that fact to introduce entomophobia, the fear of insects,” she explained so it didn’t seem like she was looking up bug facts for fun on her free time.

“I saw a centipede” that was it. Not only was that Grace’s opening line after everything that had happened the night before and the disastrous morning that followed but that was it, that was all she had to say on the matter. At least for now. It wasn’t that she didn’t care about how Clarke must have felt after her brother’s disappearance and the suspicious manner in which his belongings had returned to camp on the wrist of a deserter. It wasn’t that at all. She cared a lot, she just didn’t quite know how to broach the subject but it was a work in progress. A lot of stuff was a work in progress for Grace when it came to social affairs, in fact.

hearing grace’s voice, clarke looked up from what she had been doing; working on a new inventory list while going through the things that were saved that morning. she set the still slightly damp journal down and offered her a smile. “did you know centipedes can’t bite people? they aren’t strong enough to hurt humans unless it’s in self defense,” a random fact for grace’s random comment. after last night, she was almost glad this was how grace chose to approach her. she thought it would be a little awkward considering clarke had to push her puppy dog crush away having just learned that not only was grace straight but she also had a boyfriend back home. not to mention the fiasco that happened thanks to a hair tie that looked very similar to the one she had given her brother days before.

When everyone woke up tomorrow, Odessa was going to bring up the concern of a designated ‘bathroom area’. Making your way the jungle at night was difficult enough, she didn’t need the added concern of being afraid she was going to step in someone’s shit. “Ew…” She whined, feeling something mushy beneath her shoe. A horrible odor didn’t hit her when she scraped the gunk off against the root of a tree, so she was assuming – for the sake of her mental wellbeing – that it was just rotten fruit or something. I just need to get away from here, she thought. Picking up the pace, she slunk through the jungle and made her way further from the group. It was when she was quite a ways away that she came to a stop near a large tree after pushing away some leafy greenery. “Finally…” She released a deep exhale, hoping at last to get a moment where she was truly alone, when she heard a rustling close by. Shit. “Who’s there?”

she didn’t think about how dark it was going to be in the jungle compared to on the beach. it seemed like the moon couldn’t quite break through the treetops which made walking through the jungle at night much harder than it was on the beach. she probably should have grabbed the flashlight but with how disorganized everything was after the tide and the move, clarke wasn’t even sure where it was or if it was able to be saved this morning. as she stumbled through the jungle, assuming everyone else was asleep, she froze in her tracks when she hears a voice. “odessa?” she called out in a whisper, following where she had heard the other girl. pushing through some of the ferns to see the other girl close to a tree. “s-sorry, i didn’t mean to startle you, i was just, um, trying to find a new spot for the loo.” she covered up quickly.

If Oona thought the waterfall was a good idea then Divya agreed wholeheartedly. The other girl was very outdoorsy so it just made sense to trust her judgement. “I like the idea of moving to the waterfall. Would sure make getting water easier… And don’t a lot of civilisations settle near a water source anyway? It would make the most sense. For survival and all that.” Though it would present a challenge when it came to watching the ocean for signs of rescue… or if it rained again. Divya’s lips took on a slanted shape. At the mention of a vote though, she nodded her head. She felt every big decision required the entire group’s input. It was fair that way. “Yeah, for sure,” she agreed. She just hoped this round of voting didn’t bring any of the Eves to tears. The last time they voted, it was… well, it wasn’t the easiest experience. Divya smiled when Clarke gestured to the pile of clothes they were waiting on to dry. She looked to them and nervously fiddled with her hands. She’s been wanting to change out of her own clothes for a while now. For something lighter, more breathable. But Lex’s clothes were far too revealing and not Divya’s style at all. Elise’s clothes looked promising though… She just hoped the other girl would be okay with her borrowing some pieces. And then there was the whole ‘how Divya would feel wearing someone else’s clothes’ thing she had to worry about. She stuck with her own clothes for a reason. She didn’t like anything that was too fitted or short. She just liked to be comfortable… and totally unaware that she had a body to begin with. I think those cards are going to keep holding on longer than anything else here. Divya chuckled at that, lips pulling into a warm smile. Upon hearing that Clarke wasn’t able to save any of her own things during the chaos earlier, she felt sorry for the other girl, her lips turning downward. “Sorry to hear that, babes…” She touched a hand to Clarke’s shoulder. “Hopefully when the tide goes down, we can check the cave and maybe some of your stuff will be there.”

moving by the waterfall would be a smart idea, while they would still have to send two or three people to the beach to keep up a signal fire through out the day, it would make other chores easier. plus it would get them out of the sun which would be good in the long run. “yeah, i agree. we should probably see what everyone else thinks, make sure everyone can voice their opinions and feels comfortable.” since erin and joss left the last time because they didn’t feel like their feelings about the boys were listened to, she didn’t want that to happen again. she noticed divya’s apprehension to sharing clothes with the others, clarke would never mention it though. a few of the others seemed to be the same way for various reasons. but she was happy she was able to get a chuckle out of her with the joke about the uno cards. “oh, it’s okay,” she dismissed it easily. all that mattered was that they were okay, some silly book going missing was the least of their problems. “yeah, maybe. i was also thinking about how maybe the tide coming in so much could have pushed more stuff to us from the wreckage. maybe some more suitcases could have washed up. wouldn’t that be nice?”

Joss twisted her mouth awkwardly as she listened to Clarke speak. She held her head high, her arms folded across her chest and her shoulder muscles tense as she decided whether or not she gave a shit about whether Clarke was sorry or not. She wanted to tell the other girl to go fuck herself, she wanted to tell most of the other girls to go fuck themselves but it just wasn’t her. So, instead, she nodded her head, her gaze softening as it fell to the ground for a moment or so, “All good,” she offered plainly, “I don’t think there’s a good explanation for half of the shit we say to each other so, you don’t have to justify it,” she insisted warmly, “It’s all good,” she reiterated and meant it sincerely. She wouldn’t hold it against Clarke as long as she didn’t come for her throat again.

she honestly didn’t expect joss to accept her apology. she wouldn’t have blamed her either. last night was no way to be welcomed back to the group, it definitely didn’t make it seem very welcoming to joss and it was all because of clarke. but she appreciated that joss did accept it, whether she meant it fully or was just saying so to ease the tension between them. she just hoped it wasn’t the latter for her own sake. nodding lightly, clarke looked at the other girl. “i guess you’re right,” she said. “i just- i hope you know that i’m glad you and erin are back and i’m sorry last night didn’t prove that.” sure, clarke was closer to erin than she was joss; joss scared her most of the time because she was so close to shane; but that didn’t mean she didn’t care about her, that she wasn’t worried about the two of them while they were gone. she was happy they were back. things felt better, easier, when the group was all together. “so erm...” she started awkwardly, never very good at small talk, or talk in general. “are- are you okay? i mean- after this morning, were you hurt or anything? i was trying to hang some of the clothes i was able to grab if you want to try and change out of wet clothes.” she gestured over her shoulder to the clothes hanging on branches, though, they probably weren’t very dry yet.
