the last dragon
Iron Islander voice: Theon you [19 syllable dolphin noise slur] I see you came back WOKE and GAY and a WOMAN from us leaving you as a child prisoner to the guy with an 8 foot sword that makes you drag it around to executions in front of his screaming faced tree gods as a daily reminder that he can and will kill you (a child) just like he killed the rest of your family (some of which were also children). Did you have fun polishing his sword? I’ll bet. Did you write this letter yourself? Knowing there’s a one person literacy limit? Should we call you Theon the Reader, you reading fuck? And standing here in a jean jacket you bought yourself, may as well be sucking dick at old navy. You know who’s NOT woke or gay or a woman? Your sister Asha. Why can’t you be less gay and woke and a woman, like Asha? I bet she could run a democratic election because you know what isn’t gay Theon? Democracy
Democracy still kinda gay tho
good point we should democratically elect an extremely evil tyrant to subjugate everyone else and balance out how gay having an election was. Like some kind of blasphemous one eyed kinslaying freak. That seems unlikely. Does anyone know where we can find a blasphemous one eyed kinslaying freak? Has anyone in westeros ever had an election decided by a blasphemous one eyed kinslaying freak?
Can you post your rhaenys + her baby art here so I can reblog it? 🙏🏻

A serie of commissions from the lovely rhaenyrasimp on twt about the death of Aerea Targaryen and the events following it
4 of 4, Rhaena spreading her daughter's ashes in the sky. "She hated Dragonstone. She wanted to fly"
"you are dead," dany said.
murdered. though his lips never moved, somehow she could hear his voice, whispering in her ear. you never mourned me, sister. it is hard to die unmourned.
"i loved you once."
once, he said, so bitterly it made her shudder.
As a female athlete myself, I just want to quickly appreciate how George R.R Martin writes his women who fight. It is never, “she wanted to be a warrior so she worked harder than everyone and eventually she could beat all the boys.” He actually gives his characters strengths and weaknesses, as well as cultural ties to fighting, and he makes these traits enhance the already existing plot lines these characters follow. The mental game is also always just as important, if not more, than the physical game, which I’ve found is true in sports and probably much more true in actual life-threatening situations.
Arya is a small child. She’s nine, she’s skinny; she would probably never excel at being a knight, so instead she learns a different type of fighting. She’ll never overpower anyone, but she can be quick and sneaky and use her left hand which most people don’t know how to fight against. Also, I would argue that Syrio’s teachings about “looking with your eyes” were far more important to her than the physical part of water dancing. Most of the time she isn’t using her skills to directly fight people, but to run away, to spy on people, to catch food and survive. Syrio is her friend, Needle is Jon Snow’s smile—Arya learning how to use her stature to her advantage is part of a greater connection to her identity and the people who helped her.
Brienne is stronger than most men, but she faces constant misogyny because of that which is all too realistic. She constantly faces internal battles with her own self-image and harassment wherever she goes. She gets taught to use men’s pride and anger to her advantage:
“Old Ser Goodwin was long in his grave, yet she could hear him whispering in her ear. Men will always underestimate you, he said, and their pride will make them want to vanquish you quickly, lest it be said that a woman tried them sorely. Let them spend their strength in furious attacks, whilst you conserve your own. Wait and watch, girl, wait and watch (AFFC Brienne 7)”
Finally, “no chance, and no choice” is her most memorable line for a reason. It’s not her martial prowess that makes her a great character; it’s her bravery and honor.
Cultural ties are also so important to the reasons many women in the series fight. Asha is Balon’s last remaining child when all her brothers are dead and gone. Of course she knows how to fight and sail. Her tension with Theon is less about her showing off and more about her proving how much she actually knows her people while he doesn’t (of course that isn’t Theon’s fault but that’s a whole other post). The Mormont women learned to fight because they historically had to fight off invaders; the Sand snakes’ skills show their connection to Oberyn, etc.
Anyway I just love how George uses fighting to enhance his characters’ personalities and not define them. None of them are physically or mentally infallible, and none are exempt from misogyny. They just learned to do something that empowers and protects them despite society’s expectations. George’s writing of women is definitely not perfect, but this is something I really appreciate.
quick aenys .. ive been thinking about him
we have to do our research this election year it’s important
realized i never posted this maekar daeron dyanna piece i did a while back
wait actually the sexiest part of asoiaf is that its like borderline unspoilable sure you can learn about an event that takes place but a major part of the writing is the foreshadowing leading up to each major plot point and decision so any plot point spoilers you learn end up just giving you the ability to see the foreshadowing leading up to it. sometimes it even gives you that sick feeling of watching something horrible unfold (my favorite feeling when reading things) but other times you start to see the parallels you wouldve never seen otherwise... its really hot i love how the story trusts the audience to put things together on their own.
out of the many gripes i have with the game of thrones adaptation, the lack of color in the later seasons is one of the bigger ones bc contrary to popular belief, the medieval ages werent all browns and blacks!! everyone from nobles to commoners wore colors, even if some were more difficult to obtain than others. their clothes werent limited to only furs and dark fabrics they had silhouettes and accessories and dyes and embroidery and pearls and they all wanted to feel pretty just like we do. and each region had their own style too!!! a person from the riverlands shouldnt dress like a person from the reach or the vale or especially essos and if they do there should be a reason! its such a small thing but its something that makes the world alive and for it to be butchered in such a way that i cant tell cersei's sansa's and dany's wardrobes apart in the last seasons is depressing
I don't know if Monty Python and the Holy Grail or Ivanhoe (1982) are historically accurate since I am not well-versed in medieval fashion, but I will gladly take their costumes over the ugly ass peasant and nobility clothing the Stark sisters were wearing in Game of Thrones. At least the Monty Python and Ivanhoe costumes look closer to the illustrations of tourneys in The World of Ice and Fire.
!! they dont even have to be the most historically accurate and they may lack the detail that GoT costumes were able to afford but they will forever be better if only for the fact that they allow their characters to have hats and wear bright colors
this screenshot of a crowd in ivanhoe ALONE clears anything the characters wore post s1
cersei is such a good example of how they failed with the costuming later on bc in s1 she had color and shape! even when she was wearing more muted colors there were still COLORS and even if she didn't cover her hair unlike the characters in ivanhoe did(a mid choice imo i think it would've been more interesting if they did smth with veils and hair covering like irl women used to) it was OK bc it was still so cersei. the costumes still were a tad plain for a queen imo but they were FINE
and by s7-s8 they messed her look up so badly that she had NO silhouette NO shape and NO hair. that red dress might genuinely be the worst dress ive seen period
this one image will forever and ever be more regal to me than whatever the hell was up with cers
daeron the young dragons situation where grrm wrote he was remembered as a greatt king one of the best then in the histories elaborated that he reigned for like two years almost entirely killing people abroad and then died kind of very funny that IS what medieval people loved to see from a king. the more hes at home the more he annoys them the fewer frenchmen hes killing the more they resent paying taxes. welcome back richard lionheart
The wig department hasn’t put this kind of work in since.
Remember when they reused the wig for Rhaegar? Viserys was peak Targ man on screen.
Crazy evil bitch is peak Targaryen, period.
i've recently discovered ur art and have been absolutely obsessed with it!!!!!! 💖💖💖💖 have u ever drawn rhaena the black bride?
During their entire journey, Rhaena, Aegon, and their escort were jeered by crowds. At one village, Rhaena and Aegon were pelted with dirt by a group of Poor Fellows that far outnumbered their escort, and Rhaena rode up to threaten them, saying that they would not be so bold if she returned on a dragon.
