Band of Brothers Transcripts
Episode Four: "Replacements"
I don't know if anyone will actually find these useful, but I've been looking online and the only transcripts I can find are either only a few of the episodes, have none of the names or are just very incorrect. So, I decided to sit down and do my own. This is all my own work and it took me a long time to transcribe, so please don't copy it. If you do use it, please credit me! Anyway, here you go.
(Band of Brothers “Main Titles” by London Metropolitan Orchestra plays)
Donald “Pappy” King: The Toccoa men, that's the ones that was there at the very beginning. They are very close and uh- they accept people coming in like myself as a replacement. But you also had to prove yourself.
James “Moe” Alley: Most of them were, we know were qualified parachutists. They had to be. A lot of them were awfully green and we knew that. We just... We hoped we could keep them alive or they could keep alive, a lot of them didn't. But, uh- well, all right, they eventually blend right in.
Earl E. McClung: I think maybe they were trying to impress the older guys people like me or Shifty or. I don't know why but I got right there to where I didn't wanna be friendly with replacements coming in because God, I didn't like seeing them get killed. I just, it just tore me up.
Lester Hashey: Cause we were in awe of them. They were wearing infantry badges, you know the uniform. They had a star on their jump wings. They were uh- They were like heroes to us, you know? That's how we looked at them. And they were good. Furthermore, they were good. We had good officers, for the most part, but we had excellent NCOs. They looked... They looked after you.
(September 13, 1944. Aldbourne, England)
(At the dart board)
Luz: Alright now Lieutenant, nice and easy. We've still got a shot. (Buck misses) That’s a tough break, you're having a tough night. People have tough nights.
Buck: I'm sorry, George. It's all right.
Bull: Nice shot, sir.
Buck: Thank you, Bull.
Babe: (Buck hands him the darts) Thank you, Lieutenant.
Buck: Finish me up.
Luz: Here we go.
Babe: Double seven.
Guarnere: You're embarrassing the Lieutenant here. Have a drink.
Babe: Don't mind if I do, Sarge.
Guarnere: Better start winning money soon. I think your buddies are starting to miss you.
Babe: Yeah, they do look kind of sad, don't they?
Bull: They're just serious fighting men, that's all.
Guarnere: Well, I think I'm gonna go introduce myself.
Bull: Careful what you say now. Don't take much to set my guys off.
Martin: Yeah, and you got some wild-eyed killers right there.
Buck: You know, it's a good thing we weren't gambling.
Luz: Boy, we would've gotten k*lled.
Babe: Wanna bet?
Luz: What?
Babe: You wanna bet? Pack of smokes.
Buck: No, I'm not much of a gambling man.
Babe: Hey, come on. Pack of smokes?
Buck: First one to hit the bull's-eye?
Babe: Yeah, one shot.
Buck: One shot. Make it two?
Luz: Yeah, yeah, yeah two packs.
Buck: All right, two packs, here we go. One shot, very good.
(At the tables)
Guarnere: Hey, fellas. (He sits next to the new recruits) What do you hear? What do you say?
Hashey: Actually, that's Babe's seat, Private Heffron's.
Guarnere: Is that right? I don't care if it's fucking Eisenhower's. Who are you?
Miller: Private Miller, James Miller. I'm in Sergeant Randleman's squad.
Hashey: Us too, I'm Les Hashey.
Garcia: Tony-
Guarnere: Garcia, I know who you are. Old Gonorrhea don't miss nothing.
(At the dart board)
Luz: Lieutenant, are you gonna shoot lefty all night?
Toye: Hey, come on.
Luz: Just curious as he's right-handed.
Buck: George. What would I do without George Luz?
Luz: Boop (Buck hits a bullseye)
Luz and Buck: Ohhhh!
Luz: Goodness gracious.
Buck: Two packs, gentlemen.
Luz: I know you got them, pay up.
(At the tables)
Guarnere: So, Heffron tell you about Doris yet?
Hashey: No.
Guarnere: No? Well, then I'm gonna educate you. We're getting ready to get on a plane for that first frog town we never jumped into. All of a sudden, Heffron stops dead in his tracks. Bing and a bang and a boom everybody banging into each other. Heffron's just staring up at the plane's nose, because on it is painted this beautiful pinup. And written underneath: "Darling Doris". Doris just happens to be the name of the skirt who just that day, sent Babe one of them letters. You know the... What do you call them letters that the broads send?
Webster: Uh- Dear John letter.
Guarnere: That's it, a "Dear Babe" letter. Well, anyway, lucky for Babe, Patton overruns our drop zone. Mission cancelled. In other words, Babe don't have to risk getting inside old Doris again. Hey, Bull, your squad listens up real good.
Martin: Yeah, they're being polite like whenever Bull opens his mouth.
Guarnere: What are you saying? Bull's boys are humoring him?
Martin: Yeah- like whenever he gives out some of his folksy wisdom from back down on the farm.
Guarnere: Probably think he's a fucking hayseed. They're right.
Martin: What are you laughing at?
Guarnere: You new boys, you pay attention to Sergeant Randleman. Got that? That's the smartest man in the company.
Cobb: Where'd you get that? (He gestures to his pin)
Miller: It's a Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation. For... For what the Regiment did in Normandy.
Cobb: That's right, for what the Regiment did. You weren't there.
Hoobler: Hey, hey, ease up, Cobb? It's a unit citation. (Miller takes the pin off and leaves the table)
Bull: Shit, Cobb. You didn't fight in Normandy neither.
Cobb: I got hit in the plane before I got a chance to jump.
Smokey: Hey, you all, listen up. I got us an announcement to make. This here is Carwood Lipton.
Malarkey: He's already married, Smokey.
Smokey: This here is Carwood Lipton: The new Easy Company 1st Sergeant. As befitting his position he says he has to make an announcement.
Lipton: Well, hate to break the mood here, boys, but we're moving out again.
(In the briefing tent)
Winters: As you can see (he gestures to the board) this is called Operation Market-Garden. In terms of airborne divisions involved this one's even bigger than Normandy. We're dropping deep into occupied Holland. The Allied objective is to take this road here between Eindhoven and Arnhem so the two British armoured divisions can move up it toward Arnhem. Our job is gonna be to liberate Eindhoven. Stay there, wait for the tanks.
Nixon: The entire European advance has been put on hold to allocate resources for this operation. It's Montgomery's personal plan and we'll be under British command.
Man: Yippee.
Nixon: The good news is, if this works these tanks will be over the Rhine and into Germany. It could end the war and get us home by Christmas. It'll be a daytime jump. Intelligence doesn't expect much opposition. They think the Krauts in Holland are mostly kids and old men. And we should take them by surprise. In any case, say goodbye to England. I don't think they're gonna call this one off.
(On the airfield)
Garcia: What are you doing?
Miller: Look at Cobb, man.
Cobb: Watch and learn, kids. You wanna live? Jump ready to fight.
(A jeep drives in with Sobel and Popeye in it)
Lipton: They let you out of the hospital like that, boy?
Popeye: They didn't let me out, I busted out. I didn't wanna get reassigned to some other unit.
Lipton: Can you make the jump?
Popeye: Sure I can, Lip, I just can't sit.
Bull: Welcome back, Popeye.
Popeye: Thanks, Bull.
Lipton: Popeye went AWOL just in time to jump.
Bull: What's he doing here?
Lipton: Who, Sobel? Well, he's the newly appointed regimental S4.
Bull: Supply officer?
Lipton: Yeah, you got it.
Popeye: He picked me up in Aldbourne trying to find you guys.
Bull: He know you went AWOL?
Popeye: He knows. He just said I was lucky I could sit out this jump if I wanted. I said I didn't want to. So he says, "Hop in."
Bull: "Hop in"?
Popeye: Yeah, I know, I couldn't believe it either. Hey, maybe he's gonna court-martial me later?
Lipton: Let's get you some gear.
Moore: Hey, Mal. Over there. (Malarkey notices a motorcycle in the jeep)
Malarkey: Son of a bitch.
Sobel: Malarkey. (Malarkey salutes) Sergeant Malarkey.
Malarkey: Sir?
Sobel: You thought you'd get away with it?
Malarkey: What do you mean, sir?
Sobel: Sergeant, that motorcycle is United States Army property. That may not mean anything to you but it means something to me. Where'd you find it?
Bull: That's him all right.
Hashey: Who is he, Sarge?
Bull: He was our first CO.
Hashey: What happened?
Bull: He got promoted.
Peacock: Just tap my leg, Sergeant.
Martin: Lieutenant, you'll be in the doorway.
Peacock: Yeah, I know, but… Look, Sergeant, you'll be the man behind me. When the green light comes on if you could just tap me, all right?
Martin: The green light will be next to you, sir.
Peacock: Just do it, that's an order.
Bull: Come here, come here. (He sorts out Garcia) Sling it around, and when you land your knee'll hit the butt. The business end'll break your jaw. Lose your reserve, you don't need it. We'll jump low. Take your belly band and wrap it around you. Fine.
(September 17, 1944. Holland)
(Easy Company jump into Holland. The men land in a field)
Hashey: I'm sorry, Sarge.
Bull: Don't be sorry. Grab your rifle, let's go.
(The men crouch in a ditch. Hoovler runs past with four beers)
Man: Where'd you get that from, Hoobler?
Hoobler: I think I love Holland.
Hashey: Where'd you get these?
Hoobler: That farmhouse over there. Just sitting out in the open. I don't know, maybe they were expecting us.
Webster: Boys? Whoo. I made it.
(The planes fly past overhead)
Hoobler: I wonder if they hit anything.
Webster: Goodbye air support.
Peacock: There's some kind of holdup ahead. We're going in through this field here.
Man: Move out, let's go! Let's go, move it, move it!
Bull: (Hashey fixes his bayonet) You won't be able to shoot as straight with that thing on.
(A window opens, they all rush forward and crouch with their guns aimed. A woman hangs an orange banner out the window)
Bull: Okay, hold your fire.
(Eindhoven, Holland)
Hoobler: Hey, kid.
Lipton: Bull! Bull, you seen Captain Winters?
Bull: No, why?
Lipton: Keep your squad moving.
Miler: Where are all the Germans?
Garcia: They could be anywhere.
Peacock: Keep moving! Keep moving!
Lipton: Pardon me.
Cobb: (A woman steals his helmet) Come on, lady.
Nixon: Dick, clock's ticking.
Winter: Yeah.
Nixon: (Women rush over and kiss them) Thank you. Thank you, thank you. Very kind.
Compton: What's up, Welshy?
Compton: snipers.
Winters: We've gotta get to these bridges.
Bull: Hashey.
Peacock: Sergeant Talbert. Let's move, we've got work to do.
(Women are grabbed into the middle of the square where their heads are shaved, their clothes torn and swastikas are drawn on their heads)
Welsh: What did they do?
Van Kooijk: They slept with the Germans. They are lucky. The men who collaborated are being shot.
Nixon: Mr. Van Kooijk here is with the Dutch resistance.
Van Kooijk: We've been waiting and hoping for this day for almost five years.
Nixon: Says he can help us secure the bridges here.
Van Kooijk: Together we can push the remaining Germans out of Eindhoven. And that's just the beginning.
Winters: Any idea where they might be?
Nixon: Well, we're still working on that right now.
Van Kooijk: Pius and his friends here are getting information as we speak.
Nixon: His contacts, a couple of towns down saw the British 2nd and Guards Armored pass half an hour ago.
Winters: They're kids.
Van Kooijk: These are reliable reports. Anything we can do to help you, we will do. Anything. Right on time. (British tanks roll in with soldiers and women riding on them) Captain. I'll be happy to show you the quickest route to the bridges.
Winters: I'd be happy to have your help. Get scouts to the edge of town in case we're here for the night.
(By a farmhouse at night)
Hoobler: Hey, Van Klinken. Webster. Sleeping outside is for suckers, guys.
Webster: Better be good, I was almost asleep. (A man comes out of a bunker. Hoobler, Van Klinken and Webster aim their weapons.) Heraus, Hande hoch.Mach schnell.
Dutch Man: Niederlander. Niederlander.
Webster: Sprechen Sie English?
Dutch Man: Ja. A little bit.
Hoobler: What were you doing down there?
Dutch Man: It's an air-raid shelter. My family has been in there ever since the first plane flew over.
Van Klinken: We're Americans. Paratroopers.
Dutch Man: The Germans are gone?
Hoobler: Think so. You see any, you let us know.
Dutch Man: Are you here to stay?
Hoobler: As long as we have to.
Webster: Yeah, they don't tell us very much.
Hoobler: Or feed us much.
Dutch Man: Please, wait here.
Van Klinken: You see that? I say screw Paris.
Hoobler: Hey, don't talk about screwing, all right?
Webster: They all speak English. They all love us. What a fantastic country.
Hoobler: Hey, take a look.
Dutch Man: Here, take.
Webster: Danke.
Webster: Are these olives?
Hoobler: Thanks, danke.
Dutch Man: (A young boy comes out of the shelter) Ja, komme wieder, es ist gut.
Hoobler: Zigaretten?
Dutch Man: Ja. (Webster walks to the young boy and hands him a bar of chocolate) He never tasted chocolate.
Webster: It's pretty good, isn't it?
(The next morning)
(The men sit on tanks and head towards Nuenen)
Bull: Oh, man, you know what? I hate eggs!
Man: Here, Sarge, you can have this one.
Webster: Vincent van Gogh was born in Nuenen.
Cobb: Yeah? So what?
Hoobler: Sure teach a lot of useful stuff at Harvard. (They spot a woman with a shaved head on the side of the road)
Hashey: Mellett. (He passes him a sandwich to hand to her)
Hoobler: (A lieutenant walks ahead of everyone in plain sight) Hey, get a load of General Patton.
Bull: What the hell's he doing?
Hoobler: Makes quite a target, don't he?
Bull: Lieutenant! (The lieutenant turns and gets shot in the neck)
Man: Sniper!
Miller: Sarge!
Man: Clear the track! Move it! Come on, come on!
Bull: Medic up front, medic up front!
Garcia: What should we do?
Hashey: Keep down, stay still.
Bull: Keep moving! Get up! Keep moving! Keep moving! He's shooting stationary targets! Move!
Bull: The farmhouse, deploy right. Take the right side.
Hoobler: Right.
Bull: Go.
Hoobler: Go on.
Hashey: Kraut! (His gun jams) shit.
Bull: God damn it, move! Go, come out, come out!
Dutch Man: Away, away, away!
Van Klinken: What's he saying?
Webster: He said: "Away, away," which either means that the Germans have gone or he wants us to go. I don't know.
Guarnere: Go, go!
Martin: Ramirez! (He runs over and takes down a fence)
Compton: Beat it! All right, fellows, set them up.
Martin: (Martin and Bull both spot a German tank) Tiger. Shit! Heffron, on me.
Hoobler: Stay low.
Martin: You got a can opener, Babe?
Babe: Afraid I don't, Sarge.
Martin: (He climbs on the tank to talk to the driver) We've got a Kraut tank 100 yards on the left, by this hay stack.
Tank Driver: I don't see him.
Martin: Put a couple shells through that building you gonna see him real good.
Tank Driver: I can't. My orders are no unnecessary destruction of property.
Martin: I'm telling you, he's right there.
Tank Driver: Well I believe you. And if I can't see the bugger I can't bloody well shoot him, can I? Are you staying or going?
Martin: He's gonna see you real soon.
Bull: What the hell's he doing?
Tank Driver: Forward, roll tank!
Bull: Fall back! (A tank get hit and some shrapnel catches Bull. The tank then rolls towards him)
Compton: Pull back, pull back! Take cover!
Hoobler: There's a ditch on the other side. Follow me through.
Hoobler: (Van Klinken gets shot)Van Klinken!
Martin: (The tank rolls into the ditch Bull was in) Bull! Pull back, pull back! Go!
Compton: rifle grenade! Schmitz, MG-42. Ten o'clock, nail them. Fire!
Peacock: You had to leave him
Hoobler: He's still alive!
Doc Roe: Who's hurt?
Hoobler: Van Klinken. Other side of that hedge. Oh, shit!
Grant: Okay, ready.
Guarnere: Fall back, fall back, fall back!
Compton: Pull back, Alley, pull back! Go! Pull back!
Hoobler: Take over.
Webster: Yeah, where?
Doc Roe: We have to get him to the rear.
Hoobler: What are we gonna do, Lieutenant?
Peacock: I'm not sure.
Hoobler: Sir, they're about to unflank us. We gotta get out of here!
Luz: We have infantry everywhere. Repeat, Arnhem has cut the road. We are covered in infantry. We are pulling back.
Guarnere: Luz, fall back! Luz, fall back!
Martin: Hash, where's Randleman?
Hashey: I don't know, Sergeant.
Martin: Get out of here!
Hashey: (Miller gets bombed) Miller!
Garcia: Come on. Hashey, let's go!
Compton: Get down! (he gets shot)
Malarkey: Medic! Go, get a medic, keep moving!
Compton: Hey, doc.
Doc Roe: Lieutenant. It's gone right through. Side to side, both cheeks.
Buck: Malarkey, get them out of here, go!
Malarkey: What?
Buck: Leave me here for the Germans.
Malarkey: What? You nuts?
Doc Roe: We'll carry you.
Buck: Are you kidding me? I weigh more than both of you two guys combined.
Malarkey: Come on.
Guarnere: (Malarkey kicks in a door) What the hell are you doing?
Malarkey: Help us!
Man: Get back to the tank!
Man: Keep moving, keep low!
Lipton: Let's go, let's go. Over you go.
Guarnere: One bullet, four holes.
Lipton: Yeah, it's almost a miracle.
Guarnere: Lip, I don't think we know where Bull is, huh?
Winters: Let's go, let's go, let's go! Keep moving, keep moving!
Man: Move them out, let's go!
Winters: Hurry up, let's go!
Nixon: How bad?
Winters: I don't know yet.
Winters: Nix!
Nixon: I'm all right, I'm all right. Am I all right?
Winters: Yeah, you feel all right?
Nixon: Yeah, quit looking at me like that.
Lipton: Captain, we got four dead. Eleven injured.
Winters: Okay, let's move them out.
Lipton: And, sir, Randleman's missing, too.
Winters: Randleman?
Lipton: Yes, sir.
Winters: Okay, let's go.
Guarnere: Where's the Bull?
Martin: Don't know.
(Bull hides in a sewer tunnel under the pathway before moving to a farmhouse. He patches himself up. He sees the farmer walk in a holds a knife to his throat before noticing his daughter.)
(Back at the camp)
Hashey: I never fired a shot, the whole time. Find anything out?
Hoobler: About what?
Hashey: Anything.
Garcia: What we're doing next.
Hoobler: No. I did hear one thing. Lieutenant Brewer's gonna make it.
Hashey: What?
Hoobler: Lieutenant Brewer's gonna make it.
Hashey: Nah. There's no way.
Hoobler: He's headed back to England. They'll probably send him home.
Webster: How is that possible?
Garcia: He did turn his head at the last second. When uh- Sergeant Randleman called out to him.
(Back in Nuenen)
Bull: (He removes the knife from the farmer’s neck and pushes the two further into the farmhouse as a tank passes by the door. The farmer offers to help with the shrapnel in his shoulder. He offers him some liquor) No. Just pull... fuck. Just pull it out. (The man says he can’t. Bull offers him the knife and the man removes the shrapnel. They hear German voices outside. Bull tells them to leave through the back door)
Farmer: Danke. Danke.
Bull: Go, go! (Four German soldiers enter the farmhouse, chatting before three of them leave. One notices the bloody bandage on the floor. He turns to leave before the young girl kicks a bucket. The soldier turns around and speaks in German. Bull jumps out and attacks him, ultimately killing him.)
(Back at the camp)
Guarnere: Hoob. Any news of the Bull yet? If there ain't no body then there ain't nobody fucking dead. Understand me?
Hoobler: I'm gonna look for him.
Guarnere: Not by yourself you're not. I'll go with you, let me get some ammo.
Hashey: That's okay. I'll go.
Garcia: Me, too.
Guarnere: All right. Go get him.
Webster: All right, what the hell...
Cobb: I ain't going back up there.
Hoobler: (A truck passes by) Webster, us or them?
Webster: Not us.
Cobb: Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
(Back in Nuenen)
Bull: (He buries the soldier in hay. The farmer tries to help and Bull shoves him and his daughter out of the barn) Go.
(Back at the camp)
Winters: They're bombing Eindhoven.
Nixon: Yeah.
Winters: Come on, Nix. We'll dig in for the night.
Nixon: Won't be waving so many orange flags at us tomorrow.
(Back at Nuenen an American truck picks Bull up outside the farmhouse. Hoobler, Hashey, Garcia, Webster and Cobb spot the truck with Bull in)
Hoobler: Where the fuck you been?
Bull: Glad to see you boys.
Cobb: Not as glad as us. Bet you thought we'd given up on you there, boss?
Hashey: Shut up, Cobb.
Cobb: What?
Webster: I think we should go back now.
Dukeman: Hey, Johnny, look.
Martin: Bull!
Bull: Hey, Johnny.
Martin: Get a little lost?
Bull: Something like that.
Martin: It's good to see you.
Bull: You too.
Guarnere: I don't know whether to slap you, kiss you, or salute you. I told these scallywags you was okay.
Bull: And they didn't listen?
Guarnere: These salty bastards wanted to do a suicide run to drag your ass back.
Bull: Is that right?
Guarnere: Yeah, I told them, "Don't bother."
Bull: I never did like this company none.
Lipton: Hoobler.
Guarnere: So, they found you.
Martin: Wait, what did you say?
Guarnere: Johnny, don't irrigate me!
Martin: "They found you"? Now I don't know who's more stupid, you or the hick.
Lipton: All right, mount up! Hup hup, let's move out!
Man: Grab your gear, let's go!
Guarnere: 2nd Platoon, grab your gear! Let's go!
Martin: 1st Platoon!
Bull: Let's start falling in now. Cobb, move it.
Martin: Dukeman, round them up.
Bull: 1st Platoon. Grab your gear, let's go!
(They start rolling out in trucks)
Nixon: Van Kooijk says the Germans are concentrating their armor up near Veghel. We may be heading into some more tanks.
Winters: Well, as long as it's only old men and kids.
Nixon: Yeah.
Winters: I don't like retreating.
Nixon: First time for everything.
Winters: How are the other divisions faring up north?
Nixon: I think we're gonna have to find another way into Germany.

Boi I love creating drama from one tiny 30 second crumb yes Lou give us NOTHING but also EVERYTHING diva 💅🏻💅🏻💅🏻🦈🦈🦈
at the end of episode 15 Robby will audibly sigh and say "wow what a shit day but it's over and I can't wait to finally kill myself in a motorcycle crash." then he walks out to the ambulance bay and his motorcycle is dismantled on the ground like an unassembled Lego set. Abbot and Whitaker are standing by with comically large screwdrivers. Robby rolls his eyes "oh you guys!" then the seinfeld outro plays to end the episode and nothing bad ever happens in the Pitt again.
Listen. I got to meet you. I got to do all this amazing stuff. I'm good. I made peace with it.
Absolutely heartwrenching scene in the film, but ending it with a "i didn't mean any of that" was absolutely diabolical 😭
Is ignorance truly bliss? Because a lot of dumb fucking idiots are racist and angry ALL the time.
Su-ho-ya. I’m sorry I forgot everything you taught me. How great it is to have friends. How nice it is to laugh. What you did for me, I want to try doing that for others.

Haven Transcripts
Episode 8: "Ain't No Sunshine"
I think this was one of my favourite episodes the first time I watched Haven. It seems counterintuitive seeing as I'm such a huge Duke fan and he's not in it at all, but oh well! Anyways, here you go :)
Recap: Previously on Haven
Nathan: You really think this Jess Minion is a witch?
Jess: What do you think the troubles are? Magic is everywhere here.
Nathan: Whatever she is, she is interesting.
Audrey: So you seriously can't feel pain?
Nathan: It's called idiopathic neuropathy.
Audrey: Jess, I think Detective Wuornos needs to come by and conduct a safety review of your home. I'd say around 8:00?
Jess: Great. Maybe you can bring a nice bottle.
Nathan: Of wine?
Duke: Does she know you're not a- a real boy?
Eleanor: I'm gonna do what I can to help you find out about your mum.
Audrey: You would do that?
Eleanor: Well, we gotta stick together up here.
Duke: The troubles are back, aren't they?
Audrey: Yeah, I think so.
Nathan: And I'm afraid they won't go away this time.
End of recap
(A man walking down the street gets attacked and stabbed by a shadow)
(At Jess Minion’s house)
Nathan: Non-fat almond mocha latte with a dusting of cinnamon, I think.
Jess: Black, I think.
Nathan: Nope, I decided to try yours.
Jess: How do you like it?
Nathan: Still working up the nerve to try it.
Jess: You know you could have come inside.
Nathan: You were sleeping.
Jess: You could have been sleeping too.
Nathan: But then who would have got us the coffees? Right?
Jess: Oh, you're an odd man, Detective Wuornos.
Nathan: That's what they keep telling me.
Jess: I have a few people to visit today. Would you like to come by tonight?
Nathan: Yeah. I'd like that. (His phone rings)
Jess: Tell Audrey I say hello.
Nathan: Hi.
(At the crime scene)
Audrey: Hey, thanks for picking me up this morning. My car just wasn't feeling up for it or something. (He hands her his coffee) Thanks. Mmm. What is this?
Nathan: Dessert, I think.
Audrey: Ah, Jess's influence, I take it.
Nathan: She has a sweet tooth.
Audrey: All right, so you went out with her last night, but you're bringing her coffee in the morning? That means that you didn't spend the night, and no sane man leaves that woman's bed unless the world is on fire.
Nathan: If I hadn't picked you up, who would you have called?
Audrey: I don't know, a bureau car, a cab.
Nathan: Any friends you can call?
Audrey: Here? I've been here, what, five minutes.
Nathan: It's been a lot longer than that.
Audrey: Okay, you know what, if you don't want to talk about Jess, just say so.
Nathan: Would that work?
Audrey: Probably not.
Nathan: Probably not. Who would you have called in Boston?
Audrey: A bureau car, a cab. I have friends!
Nathan: Mm-hmm. What's that cop's name?
Audrey: Steve.
Nathan: Stan. How 'bout her?
Audrey: Okay, I get it. You know, I get it. Good morning, Stu.
Stan: Morning, Audrey.
Nathan: Morning, Stan.
Stan: Hey, Nathan.
Audrey: Crap. All right, so who's our friend here?
Stan: Bill Rand. Stabbed through the heart after he came out of that bar at closing time.
Nathan: Weapon?
Stan: Honestly not sure. A long knife, sword, spear. Whatever it was, it went right through him. And whoever used it took it with 'em.
Audrey: Looks like Mr. Rand was stabbed through his I.D. first and then his heart.
Nathan: Not easy to do.
Audrey: Well, not unless you're trying to make a point. Hey-hey, the Hessberg Medical Centre. Doesn't Jess work there?
Audrey: Yeah, Jess works there sometimes. So what do you think, angry patient? coworker?
Audrey: Yeah, it makes sense. Let's start there. Thanks, Steve.
Stan: Uh- you're welcome.
Nathan: Hmm.
(At the Hessberg Medical Centre)
Audrey: I have friends.
Nathan: I shouldn't have said anything. It's just this whole thing with Jess, it's making me do things I wouldn't normally do.
Audrey: But, you know, she's worth it.
Nathan: Yeah. Yeah, she is. So, do you have friends?
Audrey: I-I mean, I guess I just, I never had time for them. I worked two jobs in college, and then went to Quantico, and then the bureau.
Nathan: You should try small talk.
Audrey: Nathan Wuornos promoting small talk? That's like Superman trying to sell kryptonite.
Nathan: I'm not the one looking for friends.
Audrey: Hey, I didn't say that I was looking for friends.
Receptionist: Right this way, please.
Audrey: Watch this. I like your hair.
Receptionist: Um, right this way.
Audrey: All right, I need practice.
Nathan: Tonnes.
(Inside the medical centre)
Audrey: Can you think of anybody that may have wanted to harm Mr. Rand?
Mrs. Wilson: No, I really don't. Bill was a nurse here forever. The patients really liked him, and so did the doctors.
Audrey: Were there any incidents here at the medical centre that were related to Mr. Rand?
Mrs. Wilson: Not that I can think of.
Nathan: When we talk to his coworkers and patients, we're not gonna hear about anything?
Mrs. Wilson: The dark man.
Audrey: Excuse me?
Mrs. Wilson: We deal with a lot of sad stories here- people fighting for their lives, taking terrible drugs, often just to have a few more months. There's no explanation as to why one person dies and another one lives. Some families make up stories to make some sort of sense of it all.
Nathan: Families believe a dark man is responsible for patient deaths?
Mrs. Wilson: It's not unusual at all.
Audrey: Well, until we can meet the dark man, I'd like to focus on someone we can see.
(In group therapy)
Menchie Halter: And so he took this terrible situation and, like he always did, he made it a funny story. I think maybe that's what I miss most about Rubin.
Audrey: Hey, we should go in.
Nathan: No, I can see Jess some other time.
Audrey: No, actually I thought it would be good to go in and see if these people can tell us more about the place.
Nathan: Oh, of course. Yeah, absolutely.
Woman: That and his laugh and his singing. And his- well, I guess you get the idea. Thanks for listening.
Jess: Thornton, is there anything you'd like to share about Sarabeth?
Thornton: Um- I know that we're supposed to be remembering our loved ones today, but I have to- to remember something else. I was a miserable and angry husband, and I treated my Sarabeth like garbage. Now I'm not that person anymore. And when she died, that person went with her. I just wish that just wish she could have been married to the man I am now.
(After group therapy)
Audrey: That was really powerful stuff.
Jess: All those people lost someone recently. Hello.
Nathan: Hi.
Audrey: Jess, did you know Bill Rand?
Jess: Nurse Rand? Why?
Nathan: He was killed this morning.
Jess: Oh, my God.
Thornton: Are you Jess's policeman?
Nathan: Uh, guess I am.
Menchie: We want you to know that the dark man is real.
Audrey: What exactly is the dark man?
Thornton: We don't know. We just know he's a killer and that he took our families from us.
Jess: Maybe we should let the officers go.
Nathan: No, no, it's okay. Have any of you seen the dark man kill anyone?
Menchie: No, but we've seen him lurking around here. We've all had family members die before their time because of him.
Thornton: We realize how crazy it sounds.
Nathan: Well, it would sound better with evidence.
Audrey: Here, why don't we take your contact information, and if anything turns up, we'll let you know.
Thornton: Okay.
(At the station)
Audrey: Unsurprisingly, there's nothing about dark man in here.
Nathan: No one seems connected to Rand.
Audrey: Or filed a complaint against him. Hey, thank you, Allan.
Bob: Hey, Audrey.
Audrey: Allan. He'd give me a ride if I wanted him to.
Nathan: That's nice. Except his name is Bob.
Audrey: Anyway, I would say that we have nothing, but I think we have less than nothing.
Jess: Actually, you have dinner.
Audrey: Awesome. Nathan, would you please marry this woman? Sorry. Did I just make that awkward?
Jess: Well, we have to get to second base first. Sorry, I made that even more awkward. Moo Shu, kung pao, Peking duck, the classics.
Nathan: Thank you.
Jess: My pleasure. Apparently it's what I have to do if I want to see you at night.
Audrey: In that case, I will keep him late every night.
Nathan: Whoa.
Jess: Oops.
Nathan: That's all right.
Jess: Well, how's it going today?
Nathan: Um, murder, secrets, the usual.
Jess: Sounds sad.
Audrey: Actually, the saddest thing was those families today at the Hessberg Centre. Seemed like most of them weren't able to accept the death of their family members yet.
Jess: I've been trying to talk them out of the dark man idea for weeks.
Nathan: We don't exactly know what's going on at the centre, so maybe you should just take a few days off until we do.
Jess: Isn’t he cute when he wants to take charge?
Audrey: He is cute. You should see him around babies.
Jess: Okay. Well, time to let you get back to work. Maybe I'll see you later?
Nathan: I will try.
Jess: Bye.
(At Mrs. Wilson’s house)
Husband: You sure you're up for planning a trip?
Mrs. Wilson: No, but I need to think about something other than Bill for a while.
Husband: You know, these tours are pretty expensive.
Mrs. Wilson: We have the money. Where to begin.
Husband: I'm going to order dinner.
Mrs. Wilson : Maybe France. Omelette du fromage, s'il vous plaît. Oh, café au lait. Merci. Bien sûr. Ooh la la. Mais, oui. (She gets stabbed through the couch by a shadow)
(At the crime scene)
Audrey: Found the hole.
Nathan: So the knife went through her and punctured the couch?
Audrey: No, the M.E. said that she was stabbed from behind, so it had to go through the couch first.
Nathan: A knife that long would never fit back there.
Audrey: No, it wouldn't, but it did. At this point, the dark man's starting to make a lot more sense to me.
Nathan: Stabbing's emotional. Somebody was really pissed off.
Audrey: Hey, can you make sure to get a picture of the back of the couch?
Eddie: Sure.
Audrey: Thanks, Tony. Steve?
Nathan: Eddie.
Audrey: Ed-damn. That wasn't even an option. Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, great.
(At the station)
Audrey: Thanks for coming in, Mrs. Halter.
Menchie: Menchie.
Audrey: Menchie. Can you tell us about the dark man?
Menchie: Finally. Of course I can. He's tall and thin.
Bart: He's short and wide.
Menchie: 6'5".
Audrey: Are you sure?
Bart: Absolutely, positive. And dark. Really dark.
Thornton: I heard he carried a sword. That's what I heard.
Audrey: But obviously you've- you've never seen him.
Thornton: I'm a good listener.
Menchie: No, no, not a sword. Maybe-maybe more like a bat.
Bart: Definitely dark, though.
Thornton: Everyone says dark.
Menchie: Yes, dark.
Thornton: Look, our family members died too soon. It had to have been the dark man. Who else could it be?
Audrey: Thank you, Menchie. Thank you, Thornton. Thank you, Bart. Thank you all for coming. Thank you.
Nathan: Wow. Okay, well, let's get to work looking for a tall, short, thin, wide dark man, who may or may not be carrying a sword.
(At the Haven Herald)
Dave: Yes, you make pretty pictures. But I don't want pretty. I want real. I want grungy. I want it to hurt.
Vince: Yes, you're a pain, all right.
Dave: Mock away. But photography is truth. It reveals things. It's how I roll.
Vince: Oh, please.
Dave: The only thing your pictures reveal is your tortured soul.
Vince: At least I have a soul.
Dave: Yeah.
Vince: Ah.
Dave: Just the person I was hoping for.
Vince: Hello.
Dave: We need you to settle an argument.
Audrey: Well, normally I would love to, seriously, but actually I was wondering if I could check your archives.
Dave: Ah. Work before pleasure, of course.
Audrey: You know, I actually used a computer a couple times in school. Do you care if I give it a shot?
Dave: Well, of course you have. I'm sorry.
Audrey: Okay. (She types in “dark man”)
Vince: You know what she's gonna pull up.
Dave: This'll be embarrassing.
Vince: So embarrassing. (An article titles “Black Man Makes Haven His Home” comes up)
Dave: It was a different time.
Vince: Maine was very short on black people back then.
Dave: Haven had none, to its detriment.
Nathan: Does, uh "Dark man" ring any bells to you guys, maybe something you didn't write about?
Vince: Sorry, no.
Dave: Me neither.
Audrey: All right, well, it was worth a try. Let's do some real police work.
(Outside)
Nathan: Two stabbings in one week, and they both worked at the medical centre.
Audrey: I know; I looked into the cancer patients. 27 deaths in the last three months. And 12 of those obituaries say they died before their time.
Nathan: But if patients are being killed for some reason, maybe someone wants revenge.
Audrey: Exactly.
Nathan: Wait, is that what you were actually thinking, or did you just steal my idea?
Audrey: Does it matter? All right, so Wilson and Rand were stabbed, right? Do we know that all the patients at the clinic died of cancer? Do we know that for sure?
Nathan: They don't do autopsies on cancer patients.
Audrey: No, they don't, but it's not too late.
Nathan: You want to exhume them?
Audrey: I mean, I don't want to.
Nathan: We don't have enough for a judge's order.
Audrey: No, we don't.
Nathan: Except Beverly Jane Mclntyre is Judge Mclntyre’s niece. My theory might convince her. You know, this is gonna make us very unpopular with some of the families.
Audrey: Yeah, but maybe when we find out what's going on, they'll forgive us. I mean, I hope so. Hey, I thought you were meeting with Jess tonight.
Nathan: Yeah, I was until you talked me into a pile of paperwork.
Audrey: No, I can do this. I think we've established that I don't have anybody waiting up for me.
Nathan: No, it's fine. I can see her tomorrow.
Audrey: You don't want to go.
Nathan: It's not that.
Audrey: Know what, you've been weird about this Jess thing from the start. You have a beautiful woman waiting up for you. You have a partner who's willing to do the boring paperwork, and you still don't want to go? Nathan, I wasn't gonna say anything before, but it's not like you have people calling you at all hours of the day to hang out. Tell me. Tell me. Come on, what's going on?
Nathan: I don't know if I can make it happen.
Audrey: Make what happen? Oh. Wait, this isn't your first time, is it?
Nathan: No.
Audrey: Is this your first time? Well, what-
Nathan: It is my first time since I've been like this. I can't even feel my own damn skin. I can't feel her skin. I don't know what else I can't do. I don't-
Audrey: Well, you should just tell her.
Nathan: Why? What is she gonna say?
Audrey: I don't-I don't think she's gonna say anything. Listen, I'll- I'll do this paperwork. You just go figure it out.
Nathan: No, I should-
Audrey: You know what? You're welcome.
(At the station)
Menchie: You seemed so nice.
Audrey: Wha- I am nice.
Thornton: How is exhuming our families nice?
Audrey: How did you know about that? I just faxed that paperwork an hour ago.
Menchie: A friend of mine works in that office.
Audrey: I'm sorry. I- I really had no other choice.
Thornton: You absolutely had a choice.
Audrey: If the dark man killed your wife or anybody else, we need to know how they died. I'm sorry, but this is the only way.
Menchie: If that's what it takes. But you shouldn't have gone behind our backs.
Thornton: I still don't like it.
Menchie: Let's go, Thornton. Let's let the lady do her job.
(At Jess’s house)
Jess: I'm not saying you need wine, but I'm saying it wouldn't be a bad idea.
Nathan: It's that obvious, huh?
Jess: I know this isn't your first date.
Nathan: It feels like it. It is my first date since I, um- Since I stopped feeling anything.
Jess: Oh. Nathan, I'm so sorry. I didn't realize what you were going through. I understand. Completely.
Nathan: Well okay, that makes one of us. My stomach feels like, uh when my dad caught me with a girl in high school.
Jess: What was her name?
Nathan: I believe it was Nicole he caught me with, first time anyway.
Jess: Nicole?
Nathan: She was a good kisser.
Jess: (She kisses him cheek) Can you feel that?
Nathan: No.
Jess: Let me try again. Nothing to lose. Everything to gain. Look at me this time. Don't stop looking at me. (She kisses him again) Now can you feel me?
(At the station)
Dave: Told you she would still be here.
Vince: Oh, God, I hate it when you're right. You should be in a bar somewhere with your friends.
Audrey: Or so I've been told. What's going on?
Dave: Well, my brother and I have a long-running argument about painting and photography.
Audrey: Did you come all the way down here to have me settle this for you?
Dave: No.
Vince: Sort of.
Dave: I'd like to take your picture. And Vince would like to paint you.
Vince: And you choose your favourite, and Dave will learn to live with it. Eventually.
Audrey: Is that gonna get you guys to leave me alone?
Vince: Honestly? Probably not. But I can paint from the photo. It'll only take a minute.
Audrey: Okay, fine. Let's-let's do it. I mean, what else do I have to do?
Dave: Just stand there and be Audrey.
Audrey: Is this good?
Dave: Maybe without the weird smile.
Audrey: Unbelievable. Jeez.
Dave: Beauty. Ah, nice.
Audrey: (Audrey notices a shadow moving on its own) That's what they saw, it's a shadow. That's the dark man. Hey, watch out.
Dave: Oh.
Vince: Is that shadow moving on its own?
Audrey: Yeah, it is. And I'm pretty sure that it already killed two people.
Dave: Whoa.
Audrey: Turn out the lights. You can't have a shadow without any light, right?
Dave: Well, how do you know that's the way this shadow works?
Audrey: I don't know. I'm just making it up, okay? Just do it.
Dave: All right.
Audrey: Look. It does need the light. It can't move without it.
Vince: It's too dark for it to come over here, right?
Audrey: Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
Dave: I still don't know how you can know that.
Audrey: It's in my supernatural shadow guide. It says, hold on, yep. We're screwed.
(At Jess’s house)
Jess: You ready to try this? Oh, never mind. You're ready. (Nathan’s phone rings) Don't get it.
Nathan: I need to see who it is.
Jess: Why? It's Audrey. It's always Audrey. You'll answer it, and after that you'll be gone. Fine, answer it. Promise me we'll pick this up again tomorrow.
Nathan: Promise.
(At the station)
Nathan: Parker?
Audrey: Nathan?
Nathan: Parker?
Audrey: Yeah.
Vince: Nathan, it's right over there.
Audrey: Yeah.
Nathan: What the hell is that? (He shoots out the last light) I think it's gone.
Audrey: Okay then. Now we know what the dark man is.
Nathan: Yes, we do.
Audrey: Yeah, and why everybody described him differently.
Nathan: Shadows change shape depending on the light. But why'd he come after you?
Audrey: Beats me. Do you think it's what killed Wilson and Rand?
Nathan: Maybe.
Audrey: Dave, I need you to download those images. There might be a picture of the shadow on there.
Vince: He can't download them.
Audrey: Oh, well, Nathan can just show-
Dave: No, I know how to download. I shoot on film. Warmer tones.
Vince: It's how he rolls.
Audrey: Okay, all right. That's great, good. So when can you get us the images?
Dave: Target opens at 9:00, I think.
Audrey: Okay, all right.
Dave: Thanks.
Nathan: Yeah.
Audrey: Listen, I'm sorry if I, you know, interrupted anything with Jess.
Nathan: No, no, no, you had a good reason.
Audrey: Yeah, it was a pretty good reason. So did, uh, anything happen with Jess?
Nathan: It was about to.
Audrey: I'm sorry again. Sorry.
(At Thornton’s house)
Jess: "Some shall be pardoned and some punished. For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo."
Thornton: That was it. Sarabeth's favourite, I don't know why.
Jess: Too sad for you?
Thornton: No, no, it was too long. It's nice hearing it again. Thank you.
Jess: How are you doing, Thornton?
Thornton: Hanging in there. Some days are better than others but-
Jess: Of course. And how did you manage to take care of Sarabeth at the end?
Thornton: Well, she went so quickly, I didn't have to do much. See, the doctor gave her a year or more. We planned to do all these things. And- and then in a month, she was gone.
Jess: Menchie's son died quickly too?
Thornton: Yeah.
Jess: Do you guys talk about it?
Thornton: You kidding? It's all we talk about.
Jess: Mind if I help myself to a glass of water?
Thornton: Oh, no, go ahead.
Jess: Do you want some?
Thornton: No, I'm fine. Thank you.
(At the station)
Audrey: Got you your favourite, Nathan. Extra whipped cream and double caramel. All right, so what do those reports say?
Eleanor: That these people all died of the same thing. Cancer.
Nathan: So not the shadow then.
Eleanor: Well, there is something missing from the tox screen, though.
Nathan: What?
Eleanor: Adriamycin, bleomycin, herceptin.
Audrey: Chemotherapy drugs.
Eleanor: The levels are either too low or nonexistent.
Nathan: They weren't being treated?
Eleanor: Well, maybe with chamomile tea, but not with conventional chemotherapy.
Audrey: So then they would have died before their time.
Eleanor: Well, not surprising. Untreated cancers can kill you quickly.
Audrey: Right, but what would be the benefit to not treating them?
Eleanor: Beats me. That's your department, isn't it?
(At Thornton’s house)
Thornton: Jess, you okay in there?
(At the station)
Audrey: You see that?
Nathan: That looks like a long knife.
Audrey: It's what killed Rand.
Nathan: And Wilson. This is the knife that can bend behind a couch.
Audrey: Yeah, but look what's happening in every photo.
Nathan: The flashes erase part of the shadow.
Audrey: What does all this have to do with untreated cancer?
Nathan: Don't know.
Audrey: Me neither.
Nathan: It's not a coincidence, though.
Audrey: Yeah, not in Haven. All right, what would be the motive to not treat patients?
Nathan: Let's say money. Maybe Rand withheld chemotherapy. He was a nurse. It would be easy to switch bags.
Audrey: And Wilson could have sold the drugs to other clinics. Weren't all those travel brochures at Wilson's house, weren't they for spendy places?
Nathan: Yes, they were. We need to see Wilson's bank records.
Audrey: Hey, you're kinda smart.
Nathan: Kinda?
(At Thornton’s house)
Jess: I see you haven't thrown away Sarabeth's medicines yet.
Thornton: Yeah, I know I'm supposed to. I just like having them around. Makes me, you know, feel like she still lives here.
Jess: I understand. But these bottles are full.
Thornton: Yeah.
Jess: If she wasn't taking her medications, how was she tolerating the side effects of chemo?
Thornton: Well, she never had any side effects.
Jess: Really?
Thornton: Yeah, I guess we just felt lucky that way.
Jess: I'm off. I'll see you at the centre, right?
Thornton: Yep.
(At the station)
Nathan: Bank confirms Wilson had large cash deposits going back several months.
Audrey: Still doesn't link her to Rand, though.
Nathan: Same amounts on the same dates in Rand's account.
Audrey: Oh, well, that does. So Rand and Wilson were stealing chemo from patients? God, there's got to be a special room in hell for that.
Nathan: And the shadow found out what they were up to and killed them.
Audrey: But then why would it attack me?
(Jess phones Nathan)
Nathan: Hi. I'm sort of busy right now.
Jess: It's important.
Nathan: Okay.
Jess: I think I know why the centre patients were dying prematurely, and I have proof.
Nathan: What do you mean?
Jess: None of the patients were taking their side effects medication. I don't think they were getting their chemo.
Nathan: Where are you?
Jess: Home. Why?
Nathan: Just stay there. I'm on my way.
Jess: But why? I'm fine.
Nathan: Jess, people close to this have died. Stay right there.
Audrey: Wait, Nathan. Hey, Nathan, what's going on? Hey! Talk to me.
(At Thornton’s house)
(He realises medicine is missing)
Thornton: Damn. (He rings Menchie)
Menchie: Hello.
Thornton: Menchie, I think Jess came into our houses for only one reason, and it wasn't therapy.
(At Jess’s house)
Jess: Hello? Anybody there? (She rings Nathan)
Nathan: Jess, is that you?
Jess: Nathan, I think there's somebody in the house.
Nathan: Jess, okay, please listen to me closely. Find a closet, get in, and close the door. Jess? Jess? Jess? Jess. Jess?
Audrey: Nathan. (Jess gets taken to the hospital) Nathan, she'll be okay. Why don't you just go to the hospital?
Nathan: I will. I just-I want to figure out what happened first.
Audrey: Nathan.
Nathan: My job is to stop this thing before it hurts someone else. Okay, someone knew- someone knew that she had taken these. Maybe that same someone sent the shadow after her.
Audrey: Sarabeth Arrons.
Nathan: That's Thornton's wife.
Audrey: Okay, no, you know what, I'll go talk to Thornton, and I'll just call you at the hospital, and I'll-
Nathan: You can come along if you want.
Audrey: No, Nathan, that is a bad idea.
Nathan: Yeah, maybe, but it's what I'm doing. So you can come or not.
Audrey: Fine. But I want your gun. That's the only way this is gonna happen.
(At the Hessberg Medical Centre)
Audrey: Just-
Nathan: You see that? See his cane? That could be the shadow's sword.
Audrey: Yeah, or it could just be a cane. Wait. Look at that.
Nathan: He doesn't have a shadow.
Audrey: Yeah, but where is it?
Nathan: Only one way to find out.
Audrey: Okay, and by that you mean talking to him, right?
Nathan: Yes.
Audrey: Because if it is his shadow that's doing this, confronting him in the light would be a really bad idea, right?
Nathan: Yeah.
Thornton: What's this about, Officer?
Audrey: We know about the dark man. (Nathan turns all the lights off)
Thornton: You caught him?
Nathan: You know who it is.
Thornton: No, I don't. No one knows.
Audrey: He could be telling the truth, all right?
Nathan: You don't know that.
Audrey: Yeah, but if he is, we need to handle this carefully, okay? So just back me up on this. No, Nathan, back me up on this.
Nathan: Fine.
Audrey: It was the centre that killed your wife. We think that they were stealing medications that she was supposed to get.
Thornton: Oh, no.
Audrey: We have the people responsible for this in custody at the station right now.
Thornton: I want them held accountable.
Audrey: That's what we're counting on.
(In the interrogation room at the station)
Audrey: Hey, would you like to go to coffee? You would? Great. And then, you know, you can tell me about your brilliant kids, and I can pretend to be interested. (She’s talking to dummies) And then I'll tell you about my something that I read, but then, you know, pretty soon, I'll just want to freaking kill myself.
(At Thornton’s house)
Nathan: You think I believe you didn't know your shadow was the dark man?
Thornton: How could I know? I can't even wrap my head around what you just told me. You said that it attacked you?
Nathan: I saw him attack my partner right after you found out she was exhuming your wife.
Thornton: I was furious at her. It didn't go after any of the patients at the centre, though, did it?
Nathan: We think he was just there looking for your wife's killer.
Thornton: When they told me that Sarabeth had died, I felt the world crash in on me, and then I felt it lift. The rage and the sadness, it just left me and- and I felt like a new person. Maybe when my shadow left me, it took those feelings with him.
Nathan: Maybe.
Thornton: Those other people had it coming, though.
Nathan: Excuse me?
Thornton: Those other people who took Sarabeth's time from her. I'm not crying for them.
Nathan: What about Jess? Hmm? You gonna cry for her?
Thornton: Why? What happened? Oh, no. Is- is she dead?
Nathan: She's in the hospital because of you.
Thornton: No! Not me. Not me! But I guess it was him, because when I thought that she was stealing Sarabeth's drugs, I got angry, and maybe he felt that, and he went after her. I'm sorry. I can't control him. You should kill me. Kill me and maybe it will- it will kill him too.
Nathan: Maybe it will.
(In the interrogation room)
Audrey: Oh, my favourite movie. Um I- I don't think I have a favourite movie. Do you? Seriously? Whew. (The shadow appears. Audrey uses light flashes to get rid of it) All right. Okay. (She rings Nathan) Yeah, it's gone. Just make sure it doesn't come back.
(At Thornton’s house)
Thornton: So you, uh- you're gonna kill me now?
Nathan: I can't do that. I promised my partner.
Thornton: Why are you still here talking to me?
Nathan: Need to see if your shadow comes back.
Thornton: And when it does, are you putting me away? (His shadow returns to him. Nathan turns to light off)
Nathan: Not just you. Your shadow.
(At Jess’ house)
Nathan: Non-fat mocha almond latte with a dusting of cinnamon.
Jess: I was gonna call you.
Nathan: About? What's going on?
Jess: I'm going. To Montreal.
Nathan: That makes sense. A trip will clear your head. I could probably get a few days off work if you want company. Or not.
Jess: It's not just a trip.
Nathan: You're not coming back?
Jess: I don't want to go, Nathan. But there are all these things happening here in Haven, the troubles. I can't be here, not after-
Nathan: I could, um-
Jess: These things have a way of finding you. I'm sorry. I wish I was stronger.
(Outisde Thornton’s house)
(Nathan hammers a "This Occupant is Not to Be Disturbed" sign on the door)
Audrey: Hey, spill it. You didn't say one word on the ride over here, and even for you that's quiet.
Nathan: Ah, it's nothing. I'm fine.
Audrey: No, what's wrong? Is Jess okay?
Nathan: She's fine. She left.
Audrey: She left?
Nathan: Not coming back.
Audrey: Oh, Nathan. I am so- I'm so sorry.
Nathan: It was bound to happen sometime.
Audrey: Hey, you know that whole friends thing? You were right. I- I don't think I ever really had any. But I do now. And so do you.
(She kisses him on the cheek. He realises he can feel it)
Haven Transcripts
Episode 7: "Sketchy"
I love this episode - something about Duke saving the day at the end really makes me happy. Like throughout the whole series, Duke is always sacrificing so much and just seeing him happy again in the first Season is so nice. Kinda makes me want to cry though. Anyway, here ya go :)
Recap: Previously on Haven
Audrey: You took my clothes.
Duke: And I saved your life.
Audrey: You must be Duke.
Duke: Does she know you're not a- a real boy?
Nathan: Consensus says it was a wolf attack, probably rabid.
Audrey: Something about this just feels creepy.
Chief: I wanted you in this job because you got a knack with dealing with all this crap. I'm just praying to God some of it rubs off on him.
Nathan: You really think this Jess Minion is a witch?
Jess: What do you think the troubles are? Magic is everywhere here.
Nathan: Whatever she is, she is interesting.
Eleanor: I'm gonna do what I can to help you find out about your mum.
Audrey: You would do that?
Eleanor: Well, we gotta stick together up here.
Duke: The troubles are back, aren't they?
Audrey: Yeah, I think so.
End of recap
(On the Endorfin)
Richards: All right, boys, let's wipe her down. Clean her up.
Jimmy: Yes, captain.
Wallace: This is nice, right?
Businessman 2: Yep.
Businessman: Which makes us wonder why you dragged us all the way out here.
Wallace: Hmm. Galley wench, we're empty! Wench! Beer! Ready, boys? I got a line on a sexy little private equity fund.
Businessman: Come on. Here we go.
Businessman 2: Like last time? My wallet is still bleeding. I'll pass, thanks. Let's go.
Wallace: Fellas, wait. Where are you going? This deal has huge margins and a killer matrix. I can get you in under the wire if you get me the funds right now.
Businessman: No, thanks, Wally. Fool us once-
Wallace: Boys. Come on. We're talking ground floor here. Guys. Perfect. Damn it.
Vicki Dutton: I have your beers. We ran out of imports, so I had to- (The man’s bones start breaking and he folds in on himself) Oh, God! Ahhhhh! Help!
(At the station)
Nathan: So you saw the prowler?
Jess: A glimpse. Barely. He was 6'7". One eyebrow. Fu Manchu. Carried a small slingshot. Had a tattoo.
Nathan: Of what?
Audrey: Does it matter? He was a 6'7" unibrow sling-shotty monster.
Jess: Maybe you want to swing by? Look for footprints?
Nathan: Um, yeah. Yeah, I guess I should.
Audrey: Jess, I think Detective Wuornos needs to come by and conduct a safety review of your home. I'd say around 8:00?
Jess: Great. I shot a deer, so we're having venison. Maybe you can bring a nice bottle?
Nathan: Of wine.
Audrey: No, antacid. I thought you were all about protecting animals and moving them to safe habitats.
Jess: I am. I usually use a tranquilizer gun, but it makes them taste funny. (The phone rings) Maybe someone should get that?
Nathan: Hello. Nathan Police Department. I mean Haven PD. Wuornos speaking.
(At the Endorfin)
Audrey: That was painful to watch.
Nathan: No one was forcing you to.
Audrey: Uh, "Of wine?" Yeah, we should show that to suspects who won't talk.
Nathan: Okay.
Audrey: I mean, it'd probably be cruel and unusual punishment.
Nathan: Well, if my personal life is so painful to you, maybe you should just stay out of it.
Audrey: Hey, I'd love to.
Nathan: But you can't. You're incapable.
Audrey: Oh, numb on the outside, sensitive on the inside.
Eleanor: Just a sec here, boys.
Audrey: So what happened to him?
Eleanor: Anybody squeamish?
Audrey: Not me, but Nathan's a little sensitive.
Eleanor: Yeah, all right. Ruler-straight. Clean breaks through both femurs on a horizontal axis. Massive tissue and bone damage.
Audrey: Those are tough bones to have broken.
Eleanor: Well, tough for something to break. They're as thick as spinnakers, and here, look at this. Identical fracture in the arm. It looks to be at a 90-degree angle to the leg fracture.
Audrey: Did he lose blood? 'Cause his colouring- (She wipes some black stuff off him) What's this?
Eleanor: Well, look at that. Oh, I'll have to take that to the lab.
Nathan: So he was assaulted. By who?
Audrey: By what?
Eleanor: Good question. Well, you know where to find me, should the occasion arise.
Audrey: All right, so you want to go talk to Wall Street, and I'll talk to the captain?
Nathan: Excuse me.
Audrey: So you called it in?
Richards: It's my boat. I'm responsible.
Audrey: You remember any weird waves? Loose winch line? Mizzenmast? I'm from Ohio.
Richards: We were at the dock. I shut down all systems that have any real power the minute I tie off. And this boat is cutting edge in terms of safety, technology.
Audrey: Yeah, this is a pretty nice operation you have here.
Richards: Yeah, a little off the beaten path, so the extra touches help me compete.
Audrey: All right, what can you tell me about the victim?
Richards: Wallace is loaded. High-end tastes. My bread and butter really.
Audrey: Were they having a good time?
Richards: Blue water, big fish, cold beer. Who's not having a good time?
Audrey: Me. Just dragging a hook, hoping to land the big one, that is not my thing.
Richards: You'd never make it on Wall Street.
Audrey: Thank you.
Nathan: They claim they didn't see anything.
Audrey: Do you believe 'em?
Nathan: Kept my hand on my wallet the whole time. Stories line up. They say they left him with the crew.
Vicki: Took me a while to get their beers. If I'd come up sooner
Alec Dutton: That had nothing to do with it, sweetie. Nothing at all.
Audrey: So you're her father? And Jimmy?
Jimmy: I'm her fiancé.
Audrey: So this is a family crew. That's great.
Alec: Personally, I wish she wasn't working on the boat.
Vicki: Teacher's salary's small, Dad. We need the money.
Alec: But against my better judgment, Vicki suddenly started picking shifts. More time with Jimmy, I guess.
Vicki: And you.
Audrey: All right, so you brought the beers.
Vicki: And I stepped onto the deck, and there was this crunching sound, and then he was- he was down.
Nathan: And you two didn't see anything?
Alec: No, no, we were on the bow cleaning up from the day's fishing.
Jimmy: Yeah, hosing off the spilled wine and pate.
Alec: Jimmy.
Audrey: And you didn't catch anything?
Jimmy: The only thing those guys want to catch is a buzz.
Alec: Jimmy, go muck out the chain lockers. Please. Look, fact of the matter is, these guys get annoying as hell. And it bothers Jimmy how hard we work for them. I mean, hell, it bothers me. But that's the way it is for deckhands. You'd think having an old man who was one would have steered her away.
(Walking away)
Nathan: Maybe the guy was pinched between the boat and the dock and no one saw.
Audrey: One minute.
Nathan: Lots of power in a drifting boat.
Audrey: 55 seconds, that's all we've got.
Nathan: For what?
Audrey: To rule out what's normal. All right, so let's keep going. Sudden acute early onset osteoporosis? Not likely. Sudden bone-crushing weight gain? I mean, I guess the pate could do that.
Nathan: How about boats are dangerous?
Audrey: He was at a dock on a powered-down boat that's nicer than my apartment. And Vicki saw him crunch in a pretty weird way.
Nathan: You're that convinced already that this-
Audrey: Yes, because nothing I've seen lines up except for two ruler-straight breaks on Wallace's legs. And I'm pretty sure Eleanor winked at me.
Nathan: What?
Audrey: She's a doctor. She knows when things aren't normal. And I'm getting the feeling that she knows a lot more.
Nathan: She winked at you?
Audrey: There was winkage.
Nathan: Maybe you're right. I just-sometimes I wish we could get a normal-
Audrey: Brutal assault.
Nathan: Doesn't that sound kind of nice?
Audrey: Why would that be any better?
Nathan: At least it wouldn't remind me of my own problems.
Audrey: How does any of this remind you that you have no game with chicks?
Nathan: Thanks. Okay, let's say it's not something normal. What do we do?
Audrey: We go to lunch. But you're not gonna like it.
(At the Gray Gull)
Audrey: Duke?
Duke: No, hey. No, oh. Oh, Haven's finest. You know, I could add "ass" to that, "Haven's finest ass," and it would still work for both of you. Just in different ways. Uh, you guys- you guys want something to drink? Beer? Wine? Clamato?
Audrey: Or you could tell us what's behind the tarp.
Duke: Well, that-that's- that is the central mystery of life on the water, isn't it, Detective Parker? What is behind the tarp? What is behind the tarp? So many have asked. So few ever find out.
Audrey: Fine. We had a guy standing on the back of a boat who suffered from some ruler-straight injuries.
Nathan: Broke both his legs right across here.
Duke: Boom?
Audrey: I don't know what sound it made.
Nathan: Now I know why you think he's a boat expert.
Audrey: Come on, I was kidding.
Duke: It was funny.
Audrey: Joke.
Nathan: Not a sailboat. Sport-fisher. Deep V hull.
Duke: Somebody else's boom. Aye, the ocean, she be a mysterious and dangerous place.
Audrey: Like a tarp.
Duke: Sure.
Audrey: Come on, just tell us what's behind it.
Duke: Something I'm trying to protect.
Audrey: Because you're a model citizen?
Duke: I have a code. Just one that says I don't have to show you. In fact, not showing you will probably be the most fun that I have today. Alas, I hate to see a beautiful woman suffer. (He pulls it back to reveal party decorations) Pam Seligson, she's the town librarian. It's her 80th birthday. Asked me to hide the setup. I smuggled it, all of it, from Iceland.
Audrey: That is really sweet, Duke.
Nathan: So glad we came.
Laverne: Nathan, you there, sugar?
Nathan: Copy, Laverne.
Laverne: You better get up to Tradewinds Real Estate, doll. Sounds like somebody got pretty PO'd at their broker.
Duke: Bye, Audrey. You too, sugar.
(At Tradewinds Real Estate Agency)
Officer: Ten years on the job, I've never seen anything like it.
Audrey: Who is that?
Officer: Joe Santomauro. Real estate agent.
Audrey: And what happened to him?
Officer: He's been sliced all the way through like a big loaf of bread.
Audrey: (Audrey wipes some more black stuff) Look familiar?
Nathan: What's this have to do with our fractured friend Wallace?
Audrey: Did anybody see what happened?
Officer: Yeah, him.
(At the station)
Nathan: So Joe was a successful real estate broker?
Estate Agent: I don't want to gossip. Joe was a little ethically challenged. Double-dipped on commissions and whatnot. When the market contracted, the whisper was he started working with a less-desirable element. Not Tradewinds Real Estate kind of people. Here's my card if you need me.
Audrey: Will do. All right, so this Joe seems like a swell guy.
Nathan: Hmm. Think he learned his ethics in the same Boy Scout troop as Mr. Wallace? He's been indicted four times. Fraud times two, tax evasion times two.
Audrey: Okay, so let's just say that Joe did deserve Alec's wrath. We still have ten witnesses that say he never touched him.
Nathan: But he was sitting right in front of Joe.
Audrey: Right, so what's Alec, a telekinetic vigilante taking down Haven's scum?
Nathan: Doesn't seem like the type.
Audrey: No. Then why would Alec place himself at the second crime scene when we've already seen him at the first?
Nathan: He wouldn't.
Audrey: Unless- unless he can't control himself.
Alec: Then Joe just started sliding out of his seat onto the floor, like he was getting pulled by something and cut.
Nathan: What were you doing at Joe's office?
Alec: I've been trying to sell my house.
Audrey: You're moving?
Alec: No, it just seemed like time to cash out. But Joe didn't get any offers.
Audrey: That must have pissed you off, having a guy who makes that much money not be able to help you out. You're getting a little long in the tooth. How's the retirement plan coming?
Alec: What are you talking about?
Audrey: I'm talking about you being tired and mad, standing in the middle of two rich guys who took it on the chin yesterday. That's what I'm talking about, Alec.
Alec: I didn't touch anybody, and there are witnesses.
Audrey: You know, it must be tough wiping decks for a living, catering to a bunch of rich slobs, and then making your daughter schlep them drinks-
Nathan: Audrey.
Audrey: -while they look her up and down-
Nathan: Audrey.
Audrey: -like a piece of meat.
Alec: What the hell is wrong with you?
Audrey: My fault. I'm sorry.
(In their office)
Nathan: What if you had gotten him mad and something did happen?
Audrey: A bucket of cold water. It works on dogs. Anyway, he didn't hulk out on us, so obviously he's not our guy.
Nathan: Wow, it's damn near scientific.
Audrey: Okay, have you ever had a situation, though, like this before, you know, when Haven was dealing with the troubles back then?
Nathan: What do you mean?
Audrey: Both of our victims were real dirtbags, con artists, so this whole thing, it just-it feels pointed, like someone's in control of what they're doing.
Nathan: Couldn't that be a good thing?
Audrey: Yeah, or a very, very bad thing.
Nathan: Lab results on that black substance. Atomized graphite.
Audrey: Graphite, like a lubricant?
Nathan: Willow charcoal and a little clay.
Audrey: Well, if it was a lubricant, whatever it was-
Nathan: Parker, it's sketching charcoal.
(At the crafts store)
Mary: Nathan. I know why you're here, love.
Nathan: No, you don't, Mary.
Mary: Got your order here.
Audrey: Clear varnish for découpage. You do découpage?
Nathan: Mary, do you sell graphite and willow charcoal?
Mary: Yeah.
Audrey: Where do you découpage, Wuornos?
Nathan: Someplace private. So, graphite and willow-based charcoal?
Mary: Dusty but has nice, rich luster. Gives great shadows.
Nathan: Anybody in town buy it?
Mary: I'm not great with records. I could print you out a copy of my restocking report. Maybe I made a note of who bought it when.
Nathan: That would be great.
Audrey: What-what is découpage?
(Outside the store)
And why do you varnish the pictures?
Nathan: It tints all the colours. It connects them.
Audrey: So because you can't feel, all your other senses like sight, they're elevated.
Nathan: Yep. For instance, right now my hearing seems very acute.
Audrey: Hey, I'm just trying to get to know you, all right? How are we supposed to get to know each other if we never talk? You can ask me stuff if you want. Go ahead, I'm an open book. Hit me. Shoot.
Nathan: What do you think about Jimmy?
Audrey: Jimmy?
Nathan: He bought willow charcoal.
Audrey: Well, I heard Alec bossing him around on the boat the other day and then barking at him in front of Vicki.
Nathan: You think that's reason enough to set up your father-in-law for murder?
Audrey: Maybe, but if Jimmy knows that we're on to him and he's the guy that's doing all this-
Nathan: Telekinetic slicing and breaking of people.
Audrey: Yeah, then he's not exactly the kind of guy we can just walk on up to and Mirandize him.
Nathan: No.
Audrey: So we need to sneak up on him.
(At the Gray Gull)
Duke: Now what exactly do you want me to do?
Audrey: Use your boat to get close to The Endorfin. A police boat is just gonna stick out like a sore thumb.
Duke: Hmm. You remember when I asked you to help me with those parking tickets? You turned me down.
Nathan: This is more important than parking tickets.
Duke: That's a matter of perspective, Nathan. Those things get expensive.
Audrey: Duke, seriously, I'm just asking for a favour.
Duke: I'm sensing a dangerous trend here. Truth?
Audrey: That would be nice.
Duke: The Endorfin is a high-end fishing charter. It takes out big-ticket customers who want big-ticket items. I can get those things.
Audrey: You do business with them?
Duke: Yeah. In fact, I'm getting them a delivery of some very expensive noble grape. Don't worry, Nathan. I paid the customs fees.
Audrey: And so protecting your business with the owner is more important than helping us?
Duke: I mean, does it have to be an either/or?
Nathan: Come on. I have another idea.
Duke: Good luck.
(By the Endorfin)
Jess: 50ccs of diazepam. Drops a grizzly bear in ten seconds.
Audrey: Do you have anything stronger? What, we don't know who we're up against.
Nathan: We're just gonna talk to him.
Audrey: Yeah, but if anything happens to us, just tranq him.
Jess: Anything like what?
Audrey: You know, like we start bleeding or screaming, or stuff like that.
Nathan: And if it gets dangerous-
Jess: I put it in his neck, fastest place.
Nathan: I was gonna say "run." Jess, I don't want you at risk here. This isn't your job.
Jess: Okay, I'm fine. Happy to help you.
Nathan: Not the date you were expecting, is it?
Jess: But it's coming up, right?
Nathan: Right. (They walk up to the boat) Hey, Jimmy.
Jimmy: Hey.
Nathan: What are you doing?
Jimmy: What I'm always doing on Captain Richards' boat. I'm making it perfect for his clients.
Audrey: That would drive me crazy.
Jimmy: What?
Audrey: You know, just having to spend the day with a bunch of tourist fat cats telling me what to do. That's not fair.
Jimmy: Yeah, I know. You wouldn't believe some of their-
Nathan: Jimmy? Jimmy, what's wrong?
Audrey: Oh, my God. (His mouth, ears and eyes disappear)
(At Eleanor’s house)
Eleanor: There, that should keep him sedated for a while. You, uh- you want some?
Audrey: I'm fine. I'm sorry to bother you. I didn't want to take him to the hospital.
Eleanor: Yeah, they wouldn't take him anyway with no health insurance. You did the right thing bringing him here. On some levels, he is the perfect houseguest.
Audrey: You can joke about this?
Eleanor: I can always joke. How else does one get through a winter in Haven, Maine?
Audrey: It's the troubles, isn't it?
Eleanor: Yeah, I guess so.
Audrey: Wait. Why are they here?
Eleanor: I don't know. Maybe it's some kind of cosmic test of our character.
Audrey: Well, if this is a test, you get an A-plus, and I get a "You suck."
Eleanor: Oh, you're doing fine.
Audrey: I am?
Eleanor: Yeah.
Audrey: Really? Because to be honest with you, I'm kind of freakin'. There is something attacking people intentionally, and it, whatever it is, it knows that I am onto it. And well, the FBI, they never trained me for the troubles.
Eleanor: I suppose not.
Audrey: God, why can't I just walk away from this town?
Eleanor: Well, you could, but we both know Haven has its charms. Audrey, is that what you really want, to leave, go back to the FBI?
Audrey: I want to find this thing.
Eleanor: And?
Audrey: And I want to kick its ass.
(On the porch)
Jess: Is Jimmy going to be okay?
Nathan: I don't know. You saw that weirdness.
Jess: Yeah, and I thought you were really brave.
Nathan: What did I do that was brave?
Jess: You didn't pee yourself.
Nathan: You should go home, Jess.
Jess: Really? Why? I can help.
Nathan: How? Hmm? How can you help? There's a guy in the next room who just lost his face. There's another down at the morgue who was shredded. I'm in the middle of a freak show here. This isn't any place for a normal girl with good intentions.
Jess: You came to me.
Nathan: Yeah. I shouldn't have. You should go.
Jess: Fine. See you around.
Audrey: Guess what subject Vicki teaches. Art.
Nathan: Vicki.
(At Vicki’s art studio)
Vicki: Beautiful.
Art Student: Thank you.
Audrey: Can we talk for a minute?
Vicki: Is this about my father?
Nathan: No. What about your father?
Vicki: Uh, nothing. I, uh, I couldn't reach him earlier. I'm sure he just forgot to charge his cell phone again.
Audrey: You're lying.
Vicki: Look, I'm in the middle of class.
Audrey: We could always ask you to join us at the station, and we could talk there.
Vicki: You can't make me go anywhere unless you arrest me.
Audrey: Hey, Vicki, if you need some help-
Vicki: If you want to help me, leave me alone. I have to get back to my class.
Nathan: Really? "We can always ask you to join us at the station if you want to talk there."
Audrey: Oh. She's worried about her dad. And I'm betting she doesn't know what happened to Jimmy.
Nathan: She's definitely hiding something.
Audrey: Yeah, well, whatever it is, maybe we can find evidence of it at her house.
(At Vicki’s house)
Audrey: There's no law against looking in windows. Or against checking for locks.
Nathan: Parker. Look at that. (He points to a barn outside)
Audrey: Blankets in the windows? Somebody's definitely hiding something.
Nathan: (They go inside) Looks like somebody trashed the place.
Audrey: Yeah, that's too bad, 'cause some of these are really good. (A vase breaks) Wind.
Nathan: Inside. Sure.
Audrey: Looks like somebody took these in a hurry.
Nathan: Or stolen.
Audrey: Hey, Nathan.
Nathan: Hmm?
Audrey: Here's a finished one someone forgot. (She points to a drawing of Nathan) Look familiar? (She taps it and Nathan goes flying across the room) Nathan! (On the phone) Thank you. (She hangs up) All right, Vicki just left the school, and I put out an APB.We can arrest her now.
Nathan: I agree we should, but for what?
Audrey: Illegal manufacture and use of voodoo drawings. When I touched your image-
Nathan: I was there.
Audrey: Right. So I'm guessing that Wallace was folded and Santomauro was shredded.
Nathan: And Jimmy got erased?
Audrey: The question is: Where are all the other people that she sketched?
Nathan: Not just people. I stepped on this. (He holds up a drawing of the vase) The drawings affect things too.
Audrey: But why is she scared if she's in control?
Nathan: And why use her drawings to go after Jimmy and a banker and a realtor?
Audrey: Let's ask. The banker's probably conscious now.
Nathan: No, wait, wait. I don't want to leave this here unguarded, but I don't want to touch it either.
Audrey: So what do you want to do?
Nathan: I'll call Settle. Ask him to come watch it.
Audrey: And are you gonna tell him why?
Nathan: 'Cause I think it's really good.
(At the hospital)
Audrey: Mr. Wallace.
Wallace: If you're lawyers from the boat company, save your breath unless you've got a 30 mil settlement in your pocket.
Nathan: We're cops.
Wallace: You figure out what happened to me yet?
Nathan: Yeah. What we want to know is why.
Wallace: Well, I want to know what first.
Audrey: And you're in a hospital bed, attached to tubes. We could leave. Now. (They turn to leave) Okay, see ya.
Wallace: I was gonna pay the money I owed.
Audrey: To who? Vicki?
Wallace: Vicki? No. Richards.
Audrey: Captain Richards?
Wallace: I only owed him 200 large. 300 whatever. Suddenly he was a maniac about collecting it. Normally he's happy to earn the interest.
Nathan: You owed him $300,000 from fishing?
Wallace: No, I owe him 300,000 because of a stupid parlay and the Jets can't make a field goal.
Audrey: Whoa, you bet on the Jets?
Nathan: What about Joe Santomauro? Did he owe Richards money too?
Wallace: Probably. I saw him out there a few times. Worst poker player ever. But I think they had a real estate deal cooking. Based on what I heard about Joe, guessing it went south.
Nathan: So The Endorfin's more than just a fishing charter?
Wallace: Oh, he's fishing. For guys like me. Rich enough to have a couple of drinks and get in hock with him.
Nathan: So Vicki is muscle for Richards?
Audrey: Let's go ask why. Patrol car picked her up.
Wallace: What about me?
Audrey: You got involved with the wrong kind of people.
Wallace: Like I don't know that.
(At the Haven Yacht Club)
Audrey: Hey, Vicki. Why are you drawing that?
Vicki: It's pretty.
Audrey: No, that's not why. We know what you can do.
Nathan: And we know you're working for Richards.
Vicki: I'm sorry, I have no idea what you're talking-
Audrey: No, what we don't know is why you drew Jimmy.
Vicki: J-Jimmy? Is he okay?
Audrey: He's okay.
Vicki: I don't want to do this. I tried to stop.
Audrey: So why don't you?
Vicki: My dad. Richards, he has my dad hostage. A few days ago, I went down to the boat to sketch. I used to like sketching. There was a seal on the pier. I drew it, gave it to Richards. He crumpled it. We both saw what happened.
Nathan: And he figured out what your sketches could do.
Vicki: He came to see me the next day and said that my dad had been gambling on his boat, owed a lot of money, that he'd be working for free forever, but that I could help pay off my dad's debt by giving him some sketches. He was only gonna use them to pressure people. I know how hard my dad works.
Audrey: So you drew.
Vicki: Yes, but when Richards started hurting people, I told him I wouldn't do it anymore. So he got mad. He grabbed my dad and told me that if I didn't draw this place by 5:00, he was gonna kill him.
Nathan: Why this place?
Vicki: I know he tried to buy it recently.
Audrey: Well, that would explain why he tried to collect all that money so suddenly from Wallace.
Nathan: And why Joe Santomauro, his real estate agent, got punished when he couldn't make the deal happen.
Audrey: And so if Richards couldn't buy this place-
Nathan: He's gonna use her drawings to destroy it.
Audrey: All right, why didn't you just draw a picture of Richards?
Vicki: I did. But the only sketch that works is the first one I draw. Richards has the one I did of him hidden on that boat.
Audrey: And why did you draw Jimmy?
Vicki: I-I drew him before I knew any of this was happening. I drew a bunch of people. I drew half the town. When Richards came and took my dad, he took all of my sketches.
Audrey: If he has all the sketches, he could hurt someone before we take him down.
Vicki: Not just someone. He has a landscape that I did from up on King's Point.
Audrey: Hello? Out-of-towner. What's King's Point?
Nathan: It's the lookout spot. You can see the whole town from up there. Remember the vase?
Audrey: I better call for backup.
(On the Endorfin)
Duke: Afternoon. Permission to come aboard. All right, I'll knock next time.
Richards: Duke. What are you bringing me?
Duke: Well, today I have got a lovely '68 Chateau La Tour. Old-growth vines. Unfortunately for them but fortunately for us, it disappeared from a French farmer's cellar after he croaked.
Richards: And how'd you get it?
Duke: Excuse me?
Richards: What?
Duke: I just thought that we kind of agreed if we were gonna do business, we wouldn't ask a lot of questions.
Richards: That's exactly why I like dealing with you.
Duke: Hmm.
Richards: How's three grand sound?
Duke: Uh, five sounds better.
Richards: And four gets her done?
Duke: Yes, it does. Keep it cool. Hate to blow 40 years in a cellar.
Richards: You know, I think things are really gonna start picking up for me. Could probably do a lot more business if you're interested.
Duke: Oh, I'm always interested.
Richards: All righty then. (Nathan and Audrey pull up) I have company. You know them?
Duke: Uh, yeah, unfortunately, I do. It would probably be better for both of us if they didn't see me here.
Richards: Okay. Put these in the cold box below.
Duke: All right.
Richards: Vicki. Detectives.
Nathan: We know what you did to Wallace and Santomauro.
Richards: I'm sorry? What?
Audrey: We want to make a deal.
Richards: Vicki, you got an agent. I'm a businessman. What deal?
Audrey: Give us all her pictures, and we won't shoot you.
Richards: She's not very good. She should know knowledge is power. And she should know that I hold all the cards. Hmm? Now you give me what I asked for, and you two go away. Or better yet, Vicki, draw them.
Audrey: You're not hearing me.
Richards: No. You're not hearing me. (He destroys the church steeple by poking the drawing) You hearing me now? (Audrey holds her gun) You really think you can kill me before I crumple this, destroy the whole town?
Audrey: No. (He gets knocked out)
Duke: Hey, this really works. (He comes out with a drawing of Richards)
Audrey: What took you so long?
Duke: I'm sorry. But it takes me a second to pick a safe.
Nathan: Well, that's a shock.
Duke: Besides, I had to pry open the door to get that guy out.
Vicki: Daddy.
Duke: I don't want this anymore. (Richards tackles Duke and the drawing of him falls into the water. He starts drowning)
Nathan: Parker, hold this. (He hands her the drawing of the town) Be careful with it.
Duke: The picture.
Vicki: Daddy. (They hug)
Nathan: I can't get- I can't get it. (The picture sinks. Richards dies) Damn it.
(At Eleanor’s house)
Audrey: Here, I thought you might like these. (She hands her drawings)
Eleanor: Ooh, these aren't decorations.
Audrey: God, no.
Eleanor: Well, good, 'cause, you know, I got a kind of funky Mexican farmhouse thing going on. I don't want it to clash. I'll be extra careful with these. (Jimmy’s face is back) Jimmy's recovering. He looks pretty good.
Audrey: Yeah, he had a little help from his fiancée. Do you think he's going to be okay?
Eleanor: Yeah, I do. Audrey. You kicked its ass.
(At Jess Minion’s house)
Jess: Nathan.
Nathan: Hey, Jess.
Jess: Are you okay?
Nathan: Yeah. Came to see about that prowler.
Jess: Really? It's not too dangerous?
Nathan: Hope not.
(At the Grey Gull)
Duke: Dirty martini number two. So are these happy martinis or sad martinis?
Audrey: It's because I want to thank you, but that seems almost impossible. So I figure with a big bill at least I can give you a good tip.
Duke: All right.
Audrey: No seriously, thank you, Duke, for coming through when I called.
Duke: Sure. Now, about those parking tickets- So why is it so hard for you to thank me?
Audrey: I don't know. Maybe 'cause every time we start to be nice to each other something blows it up.
Duke: Maybe you just ask way too much of me. I mean, the poking around, the judging. The secret to happiness with men? Lower your expectations.
Audrey: Everybody knows that.
Duke: Why can't you do it?
Audrey: I'm drinking this swill, aren't I?
