DNI lists are ridiculous, because they ignore the #1 cardinal rule of the internet: people will do things you don't like, you can't control them, it's your job to curate your own space. Making DNI lists is not curating your space-it's telling others to do it for you. Politely asking for things is one thing, demanding is another and it reeks of "I don't understand the aforementioned principles".

Also, hot take, but if for whatever reason you deathly need to have a DNI list, maybe because your posts are all NSFW and for adults, pray tell why you don't simply put the DNI in the posts themselves?! Your posts are getting spread around through reblogs, that's literally how tumblr works. People see those posts on dozen of different dashes. And tumblr makes it easy for people to like them and spread them even further. How in the earthly hell do you expect people to inspect each blog, of every post they see, for a possible DNI before they like or reblog it?! And minors aren't going to care that something might come from an NSFW blog, most minors are just looking at the more immediate post and judging that. Putting pressure on people to always read DNIs before they possible make knee-jerk clicks of the like or reblog button is basically working against how people interact with posts here, and giving them complexes. Screeching at someone for "being rude and not following your DNI", when they're like twenty blogs removed from you in the middle of buttfuck nowhere, and they simply saw an NSFW post they thought was interesting, makes you an asshole and an idiot. No, I haven't been burned by someone doing this, I'm just 35 years old and I know how the internet works and how not to look like a fool while using it.
